Tunes 6150 Recirculation Pump
I'm using the Tunze Turbelle Stream 3 6150 recirculation pump in my 16g (60l) display tank and I love how quite it is. I have mine hidden behind the rocks in the back so you don't see anything from in front. It has a the option to add the Tunze 6105.500 safety connection switch that allows you to use any 12-24v DC battery as a backup battery something I plan on adding soon.

Automatic Water Top-off System (Tunze 3155 Osmolator & SpectraPure WXM)
Переглядів 2,5 тис.7 років тому
Automatic water top-off stand alone system using the Tunze 3155 osmolator connected to the SpectraPure LiterMeter III Water Exchange Module (LM3-WXM G6). This system uses optical sensor to detect level. It also uses a float switch and a pneumatic high water shut-off switch as a safety shutoff incase the optical sensor fails.
Bean Animal aquarium water circulation system

Water circulation on my aquarium using the Bean Animal overflow. Using an ADA 60p display aquarium with a Synergy Reef Ghost overflow and a Synergy Reef sump. Really great system silent, safe, and easy to use.
Hey does using 90s and horizontal lines cause any issues
Is the litermeter a DC pump then? Just curious since tunze sells an outlet so other pumps can be used since the pump that comes with the 3155 is DC
That's a graduated cylinder, not a beaker. ;) Awesome video. Thanks.
Love the setup...just seems like overkill for a 16 gal tank.
Any chance you remember where you found those labels for your storage tanks? I cannot find them anywhere...
I purchased and setup my Avast vibe 2.0 back in November. I bought the kit and used the same fittings and tubing as you did. Mine is setup up to feed from a sicce 2.0 pump in my sump feeding directly into the reactor. I tried the avast reactor with a sicce 1.0, 1.5, and a 2.0. Because of the downsized tubing and 90 elbows the max flow I can get is 90 gallons an hour. By taking a 1 gallon container and placing the outflow tubing in the container, turn on the pump and start a timer as soon as water begins to flow into the container. Best I got was 40 seconds with a sicce 2.0. I'm ok with 90 gallons but just be aware that if you get on the zeovit website the guys in the forums want you as close to 100 gallons an hour as possible. I'm sure you already know this by now but for new reefers to zeovit and the avast vibe setup like yours at least they will know the flow rate. The sicce 1.0 was producing 60 gallons an hour. The 1.5 was 80 gallons an hour. The 2.0 got the 90 gallons an hour. I couldn't see any point in trying a 2.5 because of the flow restriction that the tubing and elbows have seems about maxed out. Another thing to consider is that these things are not designed really well for loading and unloading zeolite. And you also need to drill a small hole in the center pipe inside the reactor to break the syphon when power is off. The Avast Marine 2.0 will do its job well but just be aware of these issues when you go to purchase one. There are cheaper options out there now like the Skimz ZAR-127 but it is in sump and the Avast is external.
Great vid!!!!! What glue did you use for your pvc?
ha! Mp10 is used to mix salt! Love my Tunzes as well.
Videos helped a lot. Thanks for sharing
Dude this is awesome. I love how you have the whole inside of the stand covered in acrylic panels. That’s genius
Hi, I’ve really been appreciating your videos recently as I’m starting a new build. . Very impressive level of detail and well thought out setups. Regards to heating control, I’m curious what made you decide not to use your apex? Is it not as accurate as the Johnson controller? Thanks and hope all is well !
Might ve a good vid if I could hear it
I know you said you have seen some people use this for home brewing. I'm trying to use it for my deep freezer to turn it into a fridge for my beer I make but having issues trying to programme it. I'm wanting the temp around 8c degrees. But it keeps staying around -15c
Hi Michael. When you set the A421 you have a few options, in your case you should set it to turn off when a low temp is reached 8c. This is called the 'Low Temperature Stop' (LtS). It should turn off the deep freezer as soon as 8c is achieved. What I don't know is how a deep freezer functions. Will it continue to cool even after the compressor is shut off? Can it be set to operate above 0c? I do know the A421 will work very well at shutting it off at the correct temp. Here are instructions to help you set the LtS: cgproducts.johnsoncontrols.com/met_pdf/2476643043.pdf?x=69&x=69
Can u remove the vector thingy? Or is it just set like that?
mogtrader8 yes you can remove the end cap that rotated and put on a flat piece that doesn’t vector the water. Hope that helps
Nice setup! I didn't know they made a light that can go in the water. How does that effect the spread of the light?
Hi WaterGrunt! The Tunze light works very well below the water, because the light doesn't have to shine through the surface. I feel it actually is brighter and more spread out, it kinda reflects off the acrylic surfaces and seems to make the water "glow", unlike a conventional light that produces a lot of shimmer and reflection on the ceiling. I like the look and so does the refugium.
Very good post...Im looking to do the same thing. Seems like you have had it gong for a bout a year now. Is it still accurate? How often do you hve to callibrate? Would you do anything different if you were starting from scratch?
Great
good on the Tunze only brand i use for water circulation and skimming

I just bought this pump for my tank in my office I do love how quiet it is. Not how quiet "they say it is" like the Wav's or others. I like ur reading style, but please have the DT light on, I would love to see an update!
Great video, explanation and idea....How has this ended up working out for you? Does it ever kick on your auto top off or are both pumps synchronised to add and remove at the same time?
Hi David... Simple answer is it works very well. I have found the LiterMeterIII to be very reliable and super accurate. I too worried about the water exchange triggering the auto-topoff to kick on. But I remove about half a gallon (0.5gal) of water a day, divided into 150 cycles each removing about half an ounce (0.5oz) each cycle and then after that adding half an oz back, repeated 150 times a day. This 0.5 oz of water is about one (1) cubic inch in volume which is in a sump area of about 100 square inches so the actual sump water level drops by only about 1/100 of an inch and then when the water is added it raises the 1/100 of an inch. This is far too small of a water level change to trigger the auto-topoff to turn on, so the systems can and do work independently. So no problem with running both water exchange and auto-topoff simultaneously on my setup. Hope that helps!
@@psherman4714 where did you get those labels for your mixing drums?
Nice video buddy .do you reccomend this overflow for 75g tank .I want something silent.subbed
cichlid guru nyc hi... yes I think this overflow would work actually better on a larger aquarium, mine is very small only 60 liters or 15 gal so I have the flow really choked down. Honestly the loudest part is the return pump, but sines it is a cabinet in the sump the loudest thing I hear is the cooling fan on the light.
P Sherman .thanks buddy .I'm mostly freshwater guy but I'm trying to setup 75 gallon tank in my room .
hi, how about I sub you, you sub me!
Must have update ;)
Not much to update it has been running flawlessly since the video was posted. It seems like once a day it goes into reverse mode for 60 sec to clean out any sand in the intake and that makes a little water noise due to the turbulence we call the Crazy Ivan. I haven’t hooked up a backup battery yet. I am reorganizing the sump and will post a video once I’m done. Thanks for checking it out!
P Sherman. Really want to see how your tank is doing. I love all the attention to detail you had
Full detail over and detail of how your tank is doing hahaha
What is the exact model/part number for the controller?
A421 Johnson Digital Controller, no part/model number Here is a link to the one I bought: a.co/hwktsHo
why don't you just make an overflow tube , than you just pump water in and the level is always the same . no problems with mechanical failure .
Hi theklrdude oo .... the overflow tube would work if you were just trying to add water and skim off the same amount via the tube. But we also need to account for evaporation using an auto-top off. The trick is running both an auto-top off and a water exchange simultaneously. The water level drop due to evaporation is the trigger for the auto-top off. But you don’t want the water exchange to trigger the auto-top off. So you may be able to use an overflow tube, I will investigate this and see what solution may be possible. Thanks for the idea
personaly i breed discus and i dump every day about 20% new water in my system . which is a bit cooler than my tanks . this water has to travel through all my tanks and return to the sump before it reaches the waste tube . because it is a bit cooler it stays on the bottom and it takes a while before it goes though the skimmer , by then the water change is completed . it is safe and fool proof (something i need:) ) the water is pumped by a sump pump on a timer that sits in my storage tank. i never do a thing to it !
Would you be able to provide a list of parts that you used to replace the original barb fittings? I'd like to do the same with my system that I'm setting up. Your setup is super clean.
Hi there Matthew Mallard... The fittings I used are from Bulk Reef Supply: • 1/2" MALE NPT X 1/2" PUSH CONNECT (SKU 10003) (quantity 3) • 1/2" X 1/2" ELBOW UNION PUSH CONNECT (SKU 100001) (quantity 2) • 1/2" WHITE MUR-LOK POLYETHYLENE RO TUBING (SKU 10004) (quantity 3 ft) • 1/2" X 1/2" ELBOW UNION PUSH CONNECT (SKU 10013) (quantity: 1) I used an ½” NPT x ½” RODI at the PVC connection from the return pump then ½” RODI tubing to a ½” Elbow Push Connect that is pushed into the ½” NPT x ½” RODI that is threaded into the lid of the AVAST. Then for the water leaving the AVAST it is another ½” NPT x ½” RODI with a ½” Elbow Push Connect pushed in to make the 90 def turn to some ½” RODI tubing to a ½” x ½” Push Connect Elbow over the sump and some more tubing down into the return water chamber. The only issue is when the sump vibrates for 60sec twice a day it does transmit some of that vibration to the RODI tubing which makes a little more noise. You could use silicone tubing as a way to isolate the AVAST but I don’t find the transferred vibration to be an issue and I like the ease of use and reliability of Mur-Lok RODI fitting so I am keeping this set up. Hope that helps!
P Sherman they do t have them anymore in the 1/2 threaded grrrr
How do you like that gate valve ? Smooth operation? I’m buying the same sump color combo and doing the red/white also . King brothers valves are the only ones I️ found that make that one in the red/white , but heard they are hard to turn and leak prematurely.
R&J REEFS yes the Gate valve works great, because my aquarium is so small it is an absolute must because I can set the flow rate so precisely
Smart placement trickle into skimmer. Great setup. Gonna do this on a 90p but peninsula style.
Hi Saul! I used this item: Hanvex HDCQ50 50ft 2.1mm x 5.5mm DC Plug Extension Cable for 12V Power Adapter and more, 20AWG Cord for CCTV, LED It was $15.99 online. It is made for security cameras but works great for the LiterMeter Good luck!
This is exactly what I planned on doing. This clarifies things for me a lot better. My laundry room to tank is about 80 ft. What did you use to extend the WXM electrical connection to the Liter Meter? Does Spectra Pure sell some sort of extension or is the electrical cord of the WXM long enough? Thanks!
Good video I'm looking to do a auto water change on my system in the near future
Thanks! I have been using mine for about a month and it is working well so far... Good luck on your system.
I saw your link on Zeovit.com. Great video! Subbed
Hey thanks! I really like using the Zeovit system and the reactor makes it super easy.
Wait. The pump was running? I was thinking about getting this. Thank you for sharing
Yeah it is running but at the lowest power setting. I usually have it in pulse mode to run from 20% on the low end to 35% on the peak. Unfortunately you can't go any slower than 20% because the pump needs to keep spinning to keep from stopping and having to restart, the one drawback to a levitating pump. As far as noise I worry your results may vary but I think my pump is silent, at 2 feet I can't hear it at all. Good luck!
Nice video :)
Thanks!
very nice setup!! subbed
