I agree about the corporate vets and your mom/pop vets. Thank goodness I found a mom/pop vet. He gives his time fixing pets one day a week at the shelter. Vets are getting a BAD rap, charging outrageous prices (here, $65/visit!). Our vet charges $48. Tractor Supplies sell vaccines. Here to get the every 3 weeks core vaxs, you still have to pay a visit charge ($48 + 20 = $68)…equals out to at least $68 per shot- I ended up going to Tractor Supply for a puppy we were taking care of. The big vet clinics can really drain your pocketbook.

That’s an AWESOME idea - taking your kids weekly to the shelter and walk dogs. I wished I had thought of that when my kids were little.

We have a great little group that takes shelter dogs on a ‘nature walk’. We’re fortunate that we live by the D. Boone nat’l forest. This past Sunday we took a 3 mile round trip hike around Laurel lake. We all enjoyed it. Even those little fun things help these dogs. We can take a shelter dog home for an afternoon for play time away from the shelter, a bath, or whatever you can do for it. My dogs love meeting other dogs, so all have fun.

Spaying/Neutering is SO expensive for the common pet owner…it’s crazy! The pets are the ones that suffer due to the cost :-(.
