Trion Marching Band 2008 Golden River
Great performance and music selection. Also great recording quality especially for video that’s 33 years old!
This was my (Dalton high Catamounts) big sister band. We played spirit of the bull also in honor of them. What's priceless is the drum major entrance. I'll never forget that. Obviously never forgot the song for sure! Thank you southerners for all your support and efforts that you all gave the Catamounts marching band during the glorious 80s. Long live "the trill"!!
My last year as a southerner ..some great memories...
So good to see these videos..1991 was my 2nd year ..so many friendships and memories . Tim U
I believe both of my parents were here! Kathy Bradley now kirby on sax I believe? And If I'm not mistaken my dad robert kirby tuba
Tuba. That’s cute.
What they are playing isn't hard, but man Bobby Crosby had them on point. The technique and level of velocity they are playing with is incredible.
Back when there wasn’t 900 people on the field. Last time I saw them they had 20 marimbas in the pit.
I'm the 2nd snare from the left.
Almost a decade later and I still can spot myself
To add, this was my rookie year, and I can still remember marching off the field, and the feeling of someone finally unzipping my jacket, and how proud Big Andy was of all of us. I did a lot of stuff I still cringe at when I was younger, but I will never ever deny the fact that band was one of the greatest things I've ever done, and I wouldn't change it for the world. (Yes even the time I brought ice cream from lunch and tried to eat it as fast as possible in the bathroom) 😂
God I miss this.
That was the biggest drummer wipeout I've seen, perhaps ever. Man, I've been there. Feel for the guy. By the way...what's up Andy? It's J.P. Gill that instructed at NW.
NO HORN BODY IN THIS GROUP WAS JUST HOLDING THEIR INSTRUMENTS WE PLAYED WE CAN SAY THIS WE HAD FUN.
Was this Dr. Walters' last year as band director for the Southerners?
Ok cool
Mason stands out so much back there rocking

DRUMLINE FOR LIFE, BABY!!!!!
My first year on the Ballerina line (1983). Can you believe how many kick sequences we did per feature number? it was truly exhausting to do that many but the audience loved it and it was our signature move. Love that they dance more now BUT would love to see them kick more on the feature.
Wish I could help but we didn't start going to the clinic until 2008.
Jesus, I was there and it still gives me chills!
Nice cut off Madison!!!! It totally made the performance!
Man, I can't believe how time just flies. To know I was marching trumpet in this show. My very first year with the Southerners. Good memories, good times, good friends. Glad for this post.
One of the drum majors ending up becoming my high school band director just a couple years after this show.
mr coxs 2 year
@shrillz No, we have a large section of woodwinds as well.
wow. nothing much has changed in the Southerners sound in 30 years. That's great. Sad that I'm not marching anymore, but it was a great year that I did. Blow Southerners!
and Madison Witt cutting off...hahaha
is this an all brass and percussion marching band?
I don't know what your scores were. But being from the Athens, Al Athens High School Golden Eagle Marching band. In my opinion i think you guys should of got all ones. Good Job for your 2008 halftime show.
Actually, this IS the 1983 Southerners. I wouldn't have the video of a 78 or 79 show...
Just because nobody else has said it yet...WHUP TROY!!!
How did we ever survive without a pit? LOL!
This is totally 1983. 1982 was Pictures of Spain. I remember that because it was my freshman year.
Oh MY GAWOD!
very good
NO ONE ever does it better than the Ballerinas... Damn they were perfect ( Rifles and Flags were awesome too ) . I really miss the old Southerners. BLOW SOUTHERNERS !!!
Old South Festival in Newnan, GA. This was the first marching band competition I ever went to. It was soooo cold that night. ..Listen to the the pitch of the horns vs. the front ensemble.
Yeah I agree with you. It was a fantastic show. I'm apart of the Spalding marching band too. :) I loved you guys. They basically said we sucked too.
Haha. Proud to be a Trion Girl!=D --CeAirra.
Pictures of Spain was the 1981 show.
This is definitely from 1983. I marched in this show my last year there and am in the snare line. I graduated in the spring of 1984 so this would have been fall of 1983. Southerners also did Spirit of the Bull in 1978.
This is not from 83. 83 led off with Pictures OF Spain. Nice show though. Go Southerners!
I'm surprised Aaron isn't butthurt over this whole thing.
Trion has come a long way since the 90's, don't get me wrong. I played with Gordon Lee from 96-02, so I've seen the steady progression Trion has made. What I meant by the Calhoun statement was it sounds like Trion is trying to play music that may require a larger band to sound more effective. Why play music that has screaming trumpets if you only have an X amount of trumpet players? The song isn't getting the justice it rightfully deserves.:(
We deserved a WAY better score than we got. This is the best show we have had yet in my opinion. Here's to a great season. :)
WOOOO! Thanks to the poster!!!! I was one of those Southerners on the field that night! Lots and lots of memories! WHUP TROY!!!!
Probably the best performance I've seen from Trion ever.
Trion's hornline wouldn't sound like Calhoun if they would stop overblowing and trying to sound bigger than they really are. Good luck in the future Trion.
We did awesome. The band's hard work really paid off. I just can't wait to see us at JSU's Contest of Champions this weekend.
Thank You so much for posting this Video, as a current Southerner it's nice to take a look into the past!
