A Day in the Life in Urban Austin - What's Austin really like?
Want to know what it’s like to live in Austin? It’s a bit different from other cities, so come with me as we explore some of the things you could do in a day in Austin. From early morning coffee runs to late-night bar scenes, join me as I show you the best spots in this vibrant city.
Start of the Day:
We begin our day with a walk around Lady Bird Lake, taking in the amazing views of downtown Austin. This 10-mile uninterrupted trail is perfect for walking, running, or biking. It’s also a great spot for paddleboarding, kayaking, and rowing. Austin is a very active city, and you’ll find people outside most of the time.
Exercise or Recreation:
Walking or biking the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail, you'll see paddleboard rentals and people enjoying the lake. It’s a fantastic way to spend the morning.
Breakfast or Coffee:
Our first stop for breakfast is at Paperboy. Located in Central Austin, Paperboy is a favorite for breakfast and brunch. With a gorgeous rooftop patio and a walk-up window for coffee, it’s a great way to start the day.
Activity 1:
After breakfast, we head to the Mueller Farmers Market. This vibrant market is open every Sunday and features local vendors selling fresh produce, artisanal goods, and delicious snacks. It’s a wonderful way to spend the morning exploring local Austin flavors and supporting local farmers.
Lunch:
For lunch, we pop over to Fareground, a new popular spot in downtown Austin. With a variety of eateries like Little Wu and Austin Rotisserie, it’s perfect for a quick and delicious bite.
Activity 2:
The day continues with a visit to the 2nd Street District for some boutique shopping. This area is known for its eclectic mix of shops, from clothing and jewelry to home decor. After shopping, we head to the Austin Public Library downtown. This stunning building features a rooftop patio with amazing views of the city and Lady Bird Lake. It’s a perfect spot to relax and unwind with a good book.
Dinner:
As the day winds down, we explore the vibrant South Congress area, known for its diverse dining options and lively atmosphere. From upscale spots like Perla's to casual eateries like Home Slice Pizza, there’s something for every taste. The unique ambiance of South Congress makes it a must-visit for any foodie.
Late Night/Bar Scene:
The night isn’t complete without experiencing Austin’s nightlife on South Congress. From casual bars to live music venues like the Continental Club, South Congress offers a rich variety of late-night activities. If you prefer a more relaxed evening, check out Watertrade or Hotel San Jose.

That blue is different but in a good way. Makes it look fresh in there.
i want to live there 😢
Me too! The entire house is amazing, not like the modern boxes that most buildings are creating. So much character!
Love it It's amazing ❤❤❤❤
Absolutely beautiful!
Views of flat land and grey skies though 😒. Nice layout for a house near mountains, forest or coastal bluffs though.
Yeah couldn’t control the weather this day 😂 it does have views in the distance of Texas Hill Country, but a bit cloudy to see it on camera.
@@matt.vanwinkle I’m sure someone will love it. 👍
Why the blue colour is not right? It's my taste.
That’s actually an attempt at a joke. I always have a darker blue like on my shoes for my real estate brand. It was a very pretty color for a bathroom.
OMG it's beautiful and had a very dreamy feelings❤❤❤
Right? It’s so calming with the colors and design they used.
This was a great video. Amazing editing and it was very informative.
Thanks!☺️
Great video, Matt...efficient and informative. Good thing you're walking between all of that eating!
Thanks! Seems like all my favorite places in Austin are food or coffee related 😁😁
I’d love just a house
Yeah this probably isn’t anyone’s first house. Usually a starter then moving up a few times over the next decades.

That home is amazing, but Austin is a dump.
I'm glad you like the home! It's definitely something special. As for Austin, I understand everyone has different perspectives on cities. What makes you feel that way about it?

Whats happening in california is happening THROUGHOUT the U.S. the economy is decline and not only in California but everywhere.
What competitive market? Unless your parents help pay for your house, no one around here is buying houses.
Depends on the neighborhood and price point. In a lot of prime neighborhoods in Austin we’re seeing less than 10 days on market.

So what's surprising? Houses have had formal living and dining rooms for ever and breakfast nooks and family/keeping rooms. Crappy sales pitch.
🤣In this particular location, it is not as common to have a 6,000 sq ft home with dual spaces. Yes, these houses do exist everywhere...
So you've never been in a house that has a living room and a family room. A dining room and a morning room.
🤣🤣 I’ve been selling real estate for 15 years so yes I’ve been in houses like this before. Liking the house and showing it to others is different than never having seen the concept before.
This is what I saw: 1 living room; 1 dining room; 1 kitchen with 1 breakfast nook, 1 island, 1 peninsula countertop; 1 family room; 1 jungle gym; 1 swimming pool with soaking spa; 1 removable child’s playhouse sitting on a small sunning patio often used for additional seating. I’d be very unimpressed with a real estate agent who tries to convince me, as a buyer, that I’m getting “two of everything.” Oooh…..I’ll bet there’s even a 2-car garage, although a house this size usually has a 3-car garage. The “two of everything” certainly doesn’t extend to the rest of the house, as there’s at least 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
@@probablynot1368 🤣You caught me! Don't worry, you don't have to buy it or even watch the video if you don't want. 🤣
@@matt.vanwinkle I watched it because the UA-cam algorithm pushed it my way this morning. I thought it might be interesting, so I let it play. I’m not worried about buying the house (I don’t even know where this house is located) because I already own two houses (Denver & Tucson) and don’t need a third one. I suppose I won’t be watching any more of your videos, either.
@@probablynot1368so you’ve already got two of everything as well 😂
very nice video!
Thank you!!
Just moved here, surprised how little sun I see in a given week. Mornings are cloudy about 75% of the time, and if the sun does come out, it's later in the afternoon.
That seems to just be this past month but not normal, hopefully not a new trend.

This is my barbie house on roblox, how’d u get in?
🤣🤣🤣
The good old "more money than sense" special... Thats going to fuck your power and water bill filling that to any usable level daily... Also, masive waste of actually usable bench space for a "built in" cutting board that is recessed. One of the key things with a cutting board it it raises the food up away from your counter, and is proud of the rest of the work surface....
You have some valid points there! Investing in a feature like a built-in cutting board does come with its drawbacks, especially if it's not designed with practicality in mind. You're absolutely right about the potential impact on utility bills and the inefficient use of bench space. A cutting board should indeed elevate food off the counter, providing a convenient and hygienic workspace. A recessed design might not achieve that effectively. Perhaps a more thoughtful approach to kitchen design could balance convenience and functionality better. Ensuring that each feature serves its purpose without compromising usability or efficiency is key. Thanks for sharing your insights!
I've watched 3 videos of yours so I still don't know who's the pest ???
Best tacos? My favorite was Joe’s Bakery.
So there's no african american ppl there? You didnt interview any
I don't like texas because work cultures is bad, like spanish culture, don't respect employees
Very clean and gorgeous
Yeah, it’s beautiful!
there are simply too many people in Austin....that's the problem.
What surprised me most other than I thought my plane had a forced landing due to all the trees, hills and water, was how little traffic was on MOPAC. I should probably mention I came here in 1978, and MOPAC didn’t cross the river and it ended at Far West Boulevard, which was right where we lived.
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD IF YOU MOVE HERE DO NOT BRING YOUR IDIOLOGY FROM THE WEST ITS RUINING OUR CITY.
Thank you for your video. Please stay away from this beautiful city, they don't need you.
😬😬😬 I’m already here 😂
130 ticketed live music events in a year? What does that mean? There’s like 130 live music events every night in Austin.
Just a speako (speaking version of typo? 🤷🏻♂️). Yeah there are more like 100 a night.
@@matt.vanwinkle It’s one of my favorite things about Austin. There are so many live shows any night of the week.
You must try La Santa Barbacha it is the best
I’ll check it out!
If youre thinking of moving here you'd better hurry up because it's only going to get way more expensive.
I can put you in a house today! 🤣🤣
If you're thinking about moving to Austin, don't. We have 3x as many people as we need.
Austin is full! Or at least I-35 is 🤣🤣
Austin, the San Francisco of Texas, love the area, hate the over abundance of liberals.
🤣🤣
Bruh… Dallas loves their dogs too lol
🤣 nope, only people in Austin like dogs 🤣
Brilliant PR for decades.
😂😂 thanks!

Cool video. I love Austin. I live outside of it about 30 miles, but I'm glad its there.
That’s one of the things I love about Austin, there’s so many different options nearby with totally different vibes.
Watching this even though I'll never visit Austin 😂 as a Mexican I probably wouldn't take a white guys rec on Mexican food 6:15 . TexMex isn't real Mexican food. Good video (:
Come check it out and lets us know if the food holds up 😎
@@matt.vanwinklehe literally dissed you for being white and you responded so nicely. Respect.
@@tightywhitey9779 lol, well technically he didn't diss me, it was the other guy who make the food recommendation :)
i was told the same thing by a mex girl lol
Texas is full. Don’t come here.
lol. That what I said in the other video 😜
