Steve and Ruth Smith

High Mountain Heather
High Mountain Heather was written by Ruth Smith and is on Steve & Ruth Smith's Heirlooms album. On the peak of the highest mountain in our area of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, Grandfather Mountain, gnarled trees grow sideways in the wind. In the harsh environment up there, a delicate little flower blooms on the heather in the late spring which reminds us of how even in the most difficult of times in our lives, beauty can bloom.

I Forget the Title

Here's a new original song called "I Forget the Title". I (Steve) just wrote it with my long time songwriting buddy Elwood Simpson because, at 75 years of age, we are both experiencing "Senior Moments". Hope you can identify with it or, if you're too young, this is what you have to look forward to in the coming years.

Here's a song of Thanksgiving that Steve wrote back in 1977 and has been sung around the world ever since. Many folks tell us they sing it with their families for "Grace" when beginning the Thanksgiving meal. It has been translated and recorded in over 20 languages. It is based on Psalm 75:1 NIV. The scripture artwork for the video was done for us by Bethany Baas. We hope you enjoy it!

This comes from our show we did with Kazuhiro Inaba in Osaka, Japan in April 2023. The original recording was done by Fiddlin' John Carson in 1923 and was the first commercially released Country music record. It was written and published in 1871 by a Louisville, Kentucky newspaper reporter turned songwriter, William Shakespeare Hayes. He was a reporter for the Louisville, Kentucky, Demo...

Ruth this is so beautiful, when I google one Wintry Night I only find the children’s book. Is your book still available and how can I get it? I have been playing about 3 years, still beginner but I love this! Thanks for posting
Something that finally slows my adhd down 😂
Steve and Ruth. This is beautiful. So musical. I stumbled upon your channel looking for info on the hammered Dulcimer. What a blessing to have found these recordings. Do you happen to have a Christmas CD?
So very beautiful!

Amazing music. Thankyou
My god.... I wept
I love this hymn and all the beautiful photos .
Played very beautifully !
The very 1st time I heard this lovely song (supposedly composed by Henry VIII) was at our annual Summer primary school concert in the sunny garden of Lyndhurst vicarage in the New Forest when it was sung by the class above mine in 1953 when I was 8. The rest of the class performed a living tableau based on the famous 1878 painting titled "And when did you last see your father?" in which a Roundhead tribunal interrogate the young son of a Cavalier while his mother and young siblings look on. I've loved it ever since that far off time.
Another beautiful song. Thank you for sharing it.
So beautiful.
Greensleeves might be the best most beautiful song ever written! ❤
Still enjoying this to this day.....
That goes to my heart. Thank you! 🤩🌞👏⚘️
It's good on every instrument.
Lovely to hear this tune played on a hammered dulcimer ❤
Easily one of the best renditions I've ever heard! Beautiful 😍
Oh, how lovey. Thank you so much! (Lovely home, too!
Fabulous ! Brings back Great Memories , especially over the holidays....Love Your Style , and Your Frontroom...
This was so beautiful! I wonder how In The Bleak Midwinter would sound on the hammered dulcimer. The first time I heard it I thought it might be a 500 year old carol because the melody reminded me of Greenesleeves. I imagine it would be beautiful as well.

Lovely
Just beautiful. My favourite piece of classical music.
Beautiful! I’m actually getting a bit teary eyed. This is one of my favorite songs.
Beautiful playing. I have a CD by a duo called Northern Lights ( Harris Moore on hammered dulcimer) and they play this same melody under the title Busker's Dream.
❤❤❤
Greatly Enjoyed!
