Hornby TT 120 A3 motor end cap conversion.
This has turned out quite well but not as good as the A4 I did last week.
The brushes do touch each other when the end cap is released, so I tried to ease the tension, which resulted in one brush being bent. I managed to get it reasonably straight but think it is rubbing on the commutator end disc sheet.
This is probably the reason that I had to increase the speed from setting 25 to 40 on the controller.
Still, I hope to get more hours from the motor now than I would have with the wipers.

Hornby TT 120 weathered A4 and non standard Hornby open wagons
Переглядів 207День тому
While buying some wagons at KJB models I noticed they had a second hand A4 that had been weathered. It looked nice although it was DCC but as soon as I got home I swapped the chip for a blanking plug and she runs fine. She certainly looks good in this condition and I may think about the odd one or two of mine. I had gone to KJB models to buy the last 5 Hornby 7 plank open wagons they had. These...

Hornby TT 120 motor end cap swapped from wipers to brushes

The Hornby TT 120 motors are fitted with metal wipers on the commutator, and these are wearing out after about 30 hours or so. Therefore I have decided to attempt to fit an end cap with brushes onto the Hornby motor. I could not locate any 12v motors with brushes so had to get low voltage ones to use the end cap assembly. TT 120 retesting the Farish 08

Someone said the diecast Farish body was helping the 08 pull the coaches last night so just to show the Farish 08 power without the die cast body I have redone the test. Initially due to no body weight, the chassis was only on the rear wheels due to the coupling height pulling it down and still pulled 11 coaches. Then, I fitted magnet couplings allowing the loco chassis to sit on the rail corre...

This is an experiment of regauging a Farish N gauge chassis to 12mm. All that was done was to replace the axles with 1/16" brass wire and open the pick ups out a little. There is no way it is supposed to be a Jinty chassis as the wheelbase is obviously completely wrong, I just wanted to see if it was possible for a future project, which I think could work.

These would definitely be a game changer for the TT:120 since we would have more 0-6-0s and we’ll be able to make more customs. @jxxgames do you mean they "asked" what we would like? I pesonally don't think the W1 and P2's would be big sellers yet but we all like to think what "we" like would be good. I would swap those for a B1 and Black 5. Hornby already have it in their pans for a 57xx and J94. I already have thoughts of an N2 from a J50 chassis as the wheelbase is correct, but the wheels are too small.

Also I agree with you with the LNER W1s since their OO gauge ones were pretty flimsy with the win deflectors being very fragile and breaking easily. Thanks Matt, when I was asked at one of the shows Hornby were at what loco would I like to see I did say "any, I don't mind but what would be nice is the 00 2-6-0 you have just released, or, standard 4 tank". Don't think my one view will make it happen though.

@@garryhall5552 I think the standard class locos would be a great place to extend the steam range. BR late steam is popular and standard classes were everywhere. A nice 4MT would be perfect for almost any layout

@@HighFell they certainly would. Just seen today that Lincoln Locos do the 2-6-0 3mt and I would love one. Alas at the moment no suitable chassis and doubt the J50 will fit. I want 77012 as it was a York engine and a photo I took of her won me a competition in the college photography class.

They both look great! Which colour you used for the blue duchess?

Thanks. The blue is Precision steam loco blue. I would have preferred to use a car spray like my A3 but it was impossible to mask everything so it is brush painted.

Absolutely mind blown by how well you've completed that SCC Sparkshot Baltic Tank. The standard of finish is second to non. So nice to see it running too. 😍

Thank you, it is a lovely 3d print too. Just washed and painted it, no sanding etc required.

Certainly unusual in any model scale and I am hoping to do it in Furness colours, similar to LMS.

nice! the 9f is one of my favourite locos, I have a Hornby OO version, and I built the old airfix evening star kit as an everyday loco. a few years back I was at York railway museum, saw both the evening star and flying Scotsman which was in for servicing work, and if I'm honest I was more impressed by evening star (heresy, I know!)

Thanks, hopefully better when the chassis and wheels are black and cylinders raised. For Evening Star I need a double chimney of something. I had thought with a single chimney I might do black but the paintwork is too nice t paint over.
