Why can't all videos be like this, simple, no intro, gets right to the point and highly useful! Thank you!
Nice of you to say. Glad it helped you
When i strech my left big toe i feel in achilies but on right big toe i dont, maybe thats a reason why i have pain in achilies.also i have left down back pain and left hip pain, plis answer i want back to football
Hey doc. I’m a physician from korea. I really wanna say that THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO in my whole life. I got morton’s neuroma 5 yrs ago, i got my metatarsal bone surgery because of that. But strangely I got really bad knee pain for recent 2 yrs I learned that my externally rotated tibia is the very problem, and this video just fixed it. Bless you doc
Awesome. Thanks for letting me know
My person has stage 4 COPD. Will this help or hurt him. He has trouble doing pursed breathing properly
Great question. I wouldn’t hesitate to try but I’d preface with this person to let him/her know it will be scary and uncomfortable at first and then give it a try
Thanks man this has really helped me, I have a pro soccer tryout coming up and this is really helping me get prepared man. Lots of love ❤️
Awesome. Good luck. This is definitely good for decelerating and change of direction sports like soccer
Nonsense. Straws are meant for overworked or overly stressed voice. They are NOT for improvement of singing. Straw exercises are meant to relax the voice. Singing is an athletic event. It requires pressure and physicality. Straws cannot build the core strength needed to sing without over stressing the larynx Too much emphasis has been put on straw exercises who don't know any better because 98% of all "voice teachers" or "voice coaches" don't actively perform or have NEVER performed in any significant way.
Not talking about singing. Talking about creating awareness of what diaphragmatic breathing feels like
Best information
Thank you!
I feel it in the back of my shoulder. When I first started lifting 2 years ago I did it for 8 months and I didn’t realize the shoulder pain was bad. I stopped for over a year and today I decided to start again but I just feel it in my shoulder and want to give up
I’d advise to get your shoulder looked at or go to www.fixyourfunction.com
These are underrated . Great share as usual Dan !
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you for this
Glad it helped you 😊
That's a crossover/curtsy, not a rotational
Call it what you will. It’s challenging the transverse plane which is the point
@@DanSwinscoe funny how you need to be criticized to make that point instead of doing so it in your description. Almost like you need to deflect
Hey sir. Grwat video. Why does my big toe on my right leg leave the ground the moment i do this drill. Is it becuase i have external tibial torsion and its too tight that follows or what is the reason. Much appreciated. No answer from others.
Some of the muscles that turn the foot in also turn it upward. Nothing to worry about 👊🏽
For how much time should I do the exercise? And how many times? Thanks
I ask for 5 minutes a day
@@DanSwinscoe even with 3 straws i find it easy, what should I do?
@@ahsjdjakshs2137 feel good about your breathing pattern or try it a more advanced posture like tall kneeling or 1/2 kneeling Youre doing great !
Great video❤
Thank you!
Another thing you can do to isolate your biceps is to either do preacher curls or to press your elbow into the side when doing curls.
Yes. But then all you’re working is elbow flexing. In standing there is some scap and core challenge also
@@DanSwinscoe 100% agree, I was mostly thinking in terms of getting a load off your shoulder if it has a weakness you're working on.
I told my girlfriend she needed to breath with her diaphragm. She said she threw it out when she went on the pill.
i felt like i wasn't getting enough breath and it felt like my upper part of stomach was expanding. after breathing thru a straw for one hour i already feel a lot of alleviation it's very good. why not breath air in thru nose?
Train with the straw in your mouth then the rest of the time breathe through your nose as much as possible
Do you have anything for soccer?
What aspect about soccer are you wanting to train? That will help me pick the video to recommend
About controlling my change of direction, like when I am running at a high speed and need to change direction faster

Hello sir, i currently have shoulder pain wjen i do these especially in the back area of the shoulder
There's a possibility that this has nothing to do with the curls. Do you do other exercises? When training lats and upper back you get really stiff upper rear torso unless you stretch and massage it away properly. This pain can plant itself near the shoulders as well. If it is in fact from the curls you might be doing cheat reps in a way that's unhealthy. Meaning you pull with the upper body and shoulder in a crooked way to push out one more rep. I can warmly recommend getting a massage gun or spiky massage ball. Search for Select Ball-Punktur to see the kind I'm referring to. With the gun, don't overdo it, you can hurt yourself. With the ball, use it against a wall, but be aware that it can put marks in the wall if the surface isn't hard enough.
@@AtotehZ thanks man, i fixed it by hanging from a bar, i think the pain was due to my shoulders, but it got fixed, i was going to heavy on hammer curls to 4 reps only, i did some pain exercises and my pain is gone
The common information we get is to breathe in through our nose and breathe out through your mouth. Is breathing from our mouth this way safe? Thanks for your kind explanation
In through the nose out through the mouth is appropriate for medium intensity exercise. I don’t recommend breathing that way at rest or lower levels of activity
@@DanSwinscoe Thanks for your prompt response and your useful information Dan
@@DanSwinscoeat complete rest, wouldn’t you want to breath mostly through the nose?
Should it feel like my hip above my thigh is activating some what?
Yes. Those muscles move the leg laterally like that
Hi. Do I have to breathe through my mouth through a straw? Inhale and exhale through your mouth?
Yes through the straw. Nose is plugged
You should learn diaphragmatic breathing through the nose. Nose breathing is for Living, mouth breathing is for exercise and healing.
Yes for THIS drill. The idea is that the straw lengthens the distance for air to travel. The only way you can move air that well is diaphragmatically So you learn to use it better. When not performing the drill breathe through your nose
@@DanSwinscoethanks for the clarification.
Thanks for sharing Dan!
I've done these before without knowing these have a name.
That’s what I call them at least 😅

How heavy does the sand bag have to be? Like 10% body weight?
10-25# depending on the ability of the person.
You are genius ❤ Golden information here. Hope this wisdom reaches everybody to prevent pain starting up the kinetic chain

Dan, what kind of surgerie(s) have you had on your knee?
Menisectomies, ACL reconstruction, bone spur removal
Thanks!
or maybe dont let your elbows hit your legs on the way down and actually do a leg exercise for legs not for posture
That was a relatively shallow squat. Wasn’t trying to go ATG just making a point
Where are the push ups? Stupid video
Awesome Thank You! 😁
Glad you liked it 👊🏽
Go barefoot with a slow transition. Have a nice life.
There's nobody better at explaining and demonstrating how a specific muscle group can be stretched and strengthened while also explaining why it needs to be done that way. Thanks Dan, always a pleasure to watch you work !
Thanks so much Dave
