Tunnel Greenhouse Update
Last year we purchased and built this tunnel greenhouse. We weren't happy with some of the instructions around how to install the poly and were concerned it wouldn't last long, but after one year it's still standing and doing well. Here's a quick review.

Log Entrance Gate Installed Part 2
Переглядів 1 тис.Рік тому
Before we purchased this land, we dreamed of what our homestead would look like and that included a gate entrance. As we cleared the land, we decided to use some of the trees we cut down and before we knew it our dream gate turned into a double gate, similar to a pergola. This video was of us installing the second portion of this. Next we will build and install the actual gate.

😂 I'm also not confident I can put the poly on first try with absolutely no instructions ffs it's all on you ha ha
Exactly! 👍
Could you provide an update video on how the green house is going?
Yes, it’s on the way! 👍
I needed to see this, thanks! Came up with the same idea but with two hoist poles. Good to see it can be done with one.
We have one of these that we're setting up now. I like that you used the 2x6 pieces. Would it work better to screw from the metal to the wood, rather than countersinking from the wood to the metal? Is yours still standing and working? Any other advice?
The self tapping screws that came with the kit weren’t very long. Pretty sure counter sinking was our only option at the time. It’s still standing. We were careful to clear snow off it all winter. Our best advice is to take your time. The instructions were terrible (on our TMG model). And their support line staff were not helpful.
Looks neat, I was wondering if that was smoke or not, 🤐 I'm bulding my house myself as well I know its tough but it will get done 🥴
hey bro , what kind of frame used for the plow the standard one (2879630) or is it some kind of longer because you use track? thank you
The plow blade and frame are the standard size Polaris Glacier System.
@@TrapperCreekOutdoors thank you !
How wide is your quad with tracks ... Would it still fit in the bed of my truck?
It does in the back of the Tundra with tracks on. It’s in the shop now getting the tracks installed and a winter service.
@@TrapperCreekOutdoorsfantastic do you fit between the wheel wells or do you roll over the wells?
56.5” wide with tracks.
Iv got to ask how does it fit in back of truck
It’s been a while since we needed to transport it in the 1/2 ton but we drop the tailgate and may have a small overhang.
Tracks fit between fenders?
Oh yeah. She’s snug but fits.
Does ur wheeler have arched a arms of so can you show me a picture of what the brackets look like for tracks.
@207-outdoorsman7 we’ll probably be installing tracks on both machines in the next couple weeks. We’ll send some pics
Just curious how long do you expect these posts to last? Im always hearing you have to use pressure treated everything??
We used the Japanese method of preserving the wood posts, which is called Shou Sugi Ban. We’ll see how they do over time but they should have a decent life span.
No concrete in the holes?
Nah, we just set the posts 6 feet deep in gravel and packed it tight.
New subscriber from Central Oklahoma! Looking great!
Thank you!
Did you fab the front loader pole yourself? I’m looking to do something similar, and 16ft clearance for the top beam is obviously the major challenge lol
The truss pole was fabricated by a friend because they are quite expensive to purchase as a skid steer attachment.
@@TrapperCreekOutdoors nice! That in itself would be a cool video to see how it was made. I’m sure there’s a ton of people that could benefit from extra reach on projects like this. Especially roof truss raising.
Care to share the link to the unit you purchased? Price? When can we get a copy of the directions?
You can check the TMG Industrial webpage for information and pricing. We bought the 12x40.
Tek screws come in many lengths and styles(metal to metal, wood to metal ,with washers without). Worth looking into
We’re aware but live quite a ways from town. Fact of the matter is the instructions and hardware provided should take care of the customer.
How’s the 570 for power with the tracks
No problems with the power at all @far-westoutdoorz8290! Even better is the fuel economy this machine gets.
@@TrapperCreekOutdoors I just got a 570 touring with power steering fuel bar almost never moves
Nice choice @far-westoutdoorz8290! We used to have the 800cc sportsman and we couldn’t get very far without taking extra fuel. Now we ride for days or weeks.
@@TrapperCreekOutdoors ya the touring model has a bigger tank than the reg 570 holds 25l
It looks great beautiful trees
Thanks Jay!
That thing looks terrifying with the chain running outside of the bar and loose like that. @1:44 Is it supposed to be setup that way?
The chain may have become slack. I think we stripped about 150 logs that week. Definitely not experts on installation 😉
Question. How green are your logs and what did you dip them in? tia.
All of the wood we used for this project was green; harvested from clearing our land. The logs weren’t dipped in any chemicals. We used the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban method to preserve the logs. Our acreage has a lot of gravel so we also have excellent drainage! Thanks for the question!
@@TrapperCreekOutdoors really appreciate the response. I'll look into that method. Thanks.
No worries! We used Shou Sugi Ban on our gate build as well if you want to see more of the method in action. Cheers.
@@TrapperCreekOutdoors perfect cheers.
Did you burn the bottom part of the pole or is that roofing tar and did you preserve the top if so with what? Haven't finished watching video yet.
Hey John! Yes we torched the bottoms of the posts and left the rest natural. Our soil has quite a bit of gravel so drainage should be decent. And we do plan to build a new coop and run this year too.
I've been taught to put chicken wire buried and I the ground around the perimeter of the run Weasel fox and other critters don't like it dig if you have fencing to that depth 16 inches seems to deter them
Hi Paul! Yes we agree with you. We did install 2 foot wide sections of wire skirting for this build. It’s likely only 6-8” deep but so far so good. Thanks so much for watching and for the kind feedback!
I love the little red chicken house. May I ask where you bought it?
Hi Angela! Our chicken coop is the Omaha by Rugged Ranch. If you’re interested, we also posted a UA-cam video of its quick assembly. The girls really seem to love it.
Are those red pine logs?
Hey Matt! Pretty sure these were all spruce trees. Looking online, it seems like red pine mostly grow in Eastern Canada but we’re certainly not experts. Lol
If there are raccoons & foxes in the área this chicken wire will be chewed off soon. I use 1/2 in Hardware cloth 19 gauge. And it is all grounded and reinforced with wooden boards into the ground.
We definitely have a lot of predators here, but over eight months we haven’t had a single issue. The coop has its own hardware cloth and the chickens are put away at night. I suppose we could add electric fencing too. Truthfully we were more concerned about grizzly bears. Thanks for the feedback!
@@TrapperCreekOutdoors yes, i lived in Penticton - BC for almost 10 years, there are lots of raccoons but they wander mostly at night. I live in NS now and here i see more raccoons & foxes wandering during the day too.
@@susanaesmerald2291 NS, how cool we love the maritimes!
Why? I assume the answer is because you like the look and you can.
So you’re right the answer is “because we like the look and we can”. But we had to take down a lot of trees around our future home site and shop site. Although we can mill some trees for lumber, and use some trees for firewood too we wanted log pathways and log gates for ambiance. Turned out great! We especially love the solar lights we’ve addd to them since. It’s really peaceful!
👍👍👍💯🇺🇸
Thank you! 🇨🇦🇺🇸✌️
I want to do that chicken run. 🐔
That’s great! It’s worked very well for us and best of all it was inexpensive to build!
Small hog ring they work great
Great thank you!
Really nice project! Hopefully it’ll rival Fort Knox when finished!
Thank you so much!
Please think about putting 1/2 inch hardware cloth (metal) around the bottom of the coop. About up 3ft high or so. Weasels, minks, stoats can really wreck havoc with chicken wire because of the bigger holes. Nice job with what you have done. If you are in a very cold area, your little chicken coop might not be good enough for bad weather. You might check out Carolina Coops videos, they are very knowledgeable about chickens and it is fun to see what they build. Congratulations on your fine build.
Thanks so much for the suggestions. We are definitely in a cold area. We’ve had -38 degrees Celsius and a lot of snow. We’ve had to make a few modifications to our little coop but the girls are hanging in there! Our plan is to build a larger insulated chicken coop and a new run this year. Really appreciate the time you took to provide some advice!
Does it have a very good one or a good time to do that
2to
Can you please clarify what your question is? We don’t understand. Thanks!
Chicken wire is not good at all. On Facebook a lady had her chicken legs ripped apart because the raccoon managed to grab it through the chicken wire. Horrible to see.
Use hog clips to connect your wire.
Great suggestion!
Don't throw your tape measure n the ground and turn off your machine.
Our subscribers have the best tips. Thanks so much.
@ Sam Francisco. Shut up n leave them alone. It's their channel not yours
Beautiful project! So jealous of your mill! Do you live where it snows? I'm Stimpy on what to use as the top that won't get destroyed in the snowy weather.
We definitely get a lot of snow and very cold temperatures! I wonder if you could use greenhouse plastic sheeting, for all, or part of your roof? Thanks for the feedback!
hey man nice video! what kind of plow do you use? do you know if the 60" glacier plow will interfere with the tracks?
We use the Polaris glacier kit and there is a bit of interference when the plow is angled toward the end of its range on either side. We have found that it’s unnecessary to angle the plow too far in either direction to get the job done so it works well for us. Check out our instagram later today and we will show it on our stories.
You should get a video up of this 4 wheeler with the tracks on it with it plowing snow I would like to see it
We have a video just like that, from last year, on our UA-cam Channel. We can make another one for you but see what you think of the one we posted. Cheers!
That’s pretty neat, I haven’t seen one of these before.
Yes, very cool technology!

How do you like the mill after a year? Been looking at making a purchase and this one has my eye.
@ttlassit it’s a great product. Zero complaints!
So funny!
This project turned out so cool! Who agrees that the hotdog buns were too small?
Haha yes, the buns were too small! 🌭 🤣 I stumbled on your page earlier this morning and your project looks very cool! We started our homesteading journey 5 years ago. So we can totally relate to what you are trying to achieve! The rv hit home too. We've been in a 5th wheel for 5 years also. Good thing our barndominium is close to being finished! Keep up the good work you two!

This was such a cool video to make!
Looking great
Thank you! It was such a fun project too.
Nice, every tutorial is about installing the tracks. I had them installed at the dealership and wasn't sure what needs to go or stay on my sxs. It doesn't look too difficult to do!
The dealer told us they were “plug and play” so we assumed it would be like changing tires. It’s a little bit more complex than changing a tire but we can change-over each machine in under 1 hour now. And we realize now that tracks are super useful in mud too so we will be using them for more and more rides. Thanks for the comment!
@@TrapperCreekOutdoors I removed them today, easier than I thought, without snow it's become too bumpy for comfort. Changing the oil and oil filter was more of an hassle 😉
Where did you find the replacement carb? I cannot find one...
We called Champion USA and ordered all of our parts. Very good service too.
The guy I spoke with at Champion was super nice but not super helpful 😆. He couldn’t seem to help me figure out the model number, but I just found it. Got the manual and the carb part # from that. I could NOT get the solenoid off the bottom of the float bowl. They must have put some good lock-tight on those screws. Was trying to get the main valve out to hit it with some carb cleaner. After I gave up and was going to order the carb from them, the fuel cleaner I put in the tank must have finally kicked in! Two hours of wasted labor because I was impatient 🤣. running like new. Thanks for the reply.
Isn’t that always the way! Lol
Watched with interest, I have had an identical genny to this one since 2014. Touch wood, no problems yet with it and I run it perhaps 3x/year due to power interruptions so I can ensure my sump pump can run.
That’s great! We’ve learned to use very good gasoline and let it run monthly to keep things operational. We let it sit too long and that could have been the problem. Thanks for watching!
@@TrapperCreekOutdoors I use fuel stabilizer in the gas all the time and turn the gas off to run it dry whenever I shut it down.
@@lotsofcases6522 That is a great tip that we will definitely try. Thank you so much!
Do you have power steering on your sportsman?
Hey Aaron! Yes, both of our Polaris Sportsman machines have power steering.
@@TrapperCreekOutdoors thanks for the reply! I'd like to get tracks for mine but unfortunately I don't have power steering. Just not too sure what I'll be in for without
No problem! Tracks are very heavy, and even with stock power steering, they can be hard to turn while in 4x4 mode.
