    Im not even a cop and common sense tells me why this wouldn't work... first of all, with that much of a distance, the suspect can just take off. Second, why would you have your cuffs out before you have physical control of the suspect. At any time he could've pulled out a weapon and you couldn't do anything because you hand is being occupied

    I'm missing the voice commands in this video. We use hinged cuffs and always stack to secure suspects. Always work in a pair if possible, try to avoid cuffing alone.

    Cuffing is a martial art , police wait way to long to grab the cuffs in an altercation. Dont think about both, one wrist is the goal. Think about the mechanics of "the claw", for those that dont know, the claw was a tool that was used by police of Yesteryear to gain compliance. So , if you are in a struggle, or your partner is in a struggle, dont thing about trying to get both wrists in. You only need one then pull in the direction and you can "peel" the limb into compliance and it will hurt so bad they will comply. Everyone should learn the mechanics of "the claw" tool. Dont get me wrong, im not saying this as a daily habbit, im saying it as a life or death struggle to quickly gain control. Cuff a wrist fast and PULL. Peel it in the direction you want. They really should have kept the claw around.

    A great many subjects will not be flexible enough to get their hands/wrists that close together, or cooperative enough to do it even if they can, or just too fat for this technique to work. Not saying it’s a bad technique. It works great when it works, but have a good plan B

    they should come out with aerosol handcuffs, the officer sprays the suspects hands while together behind their back and the adhesive cures almost immediately then when they want to release it the police have a special release agent that dissolves the adhesive

      Well they lose cover by walking to the front of the car. No reason you don’t have the suspect walking all the way back behind your squad. Looks like there would have been cross fire when they were going to clear the car.

    Good basics....not sure how officers night vision will be at night with LED lights flashing in your face while standing behind your vehicles. No use of the PA muc. Guess thats no longer needed. Better use your police voice over all the road noise..

    Rear stacking is good if the individual is flexible enough. When I did my training there was no way rear stacking was possible for me. I needed a daisy chain to be comfortable in cuffs.

    One more thing to keep in mind your Keyhole should never face inward but outward so that if someone knows how to pick a set of cuffs the keyholes will not be facing towards them and it will make it harder

    • @morganviola2541
      @morganviola2541 Рік тому

      So when placing the cuffs around the wrists, its supposed to be where the keyholes are essentially facing up? I have a class on this tomorrow for work but I'm trying to prepare myself so I don't look like a complete idiot😂

      Someone who knows what they’re doing will more likely try to use a shim to depress the pawls. More import than worrying about keyway direction is to worry about the hand positions. Try to always cuff so that the backs of the hands are together. This way, regardless of keyways they won’t have the dexterity to manipulate anything.

    If your department allows hinged, I would recommend 1 Peerless Hinged for regular or larger individuals and also carry 1 Smith and Wesson hinged for smaller individuals. The inner diameter for Smith and Wesson is smaller than the Peerless. So works better for smaller people.
