    I've had one of these DC3401 units for over a year. It's worked fairly well, but I will say it is underpowered for anything but the tiniest shops and really isn't a whole lot better than a shop vac. I just ordered the DC1300 unit. If you're considering the DC3401, I would suggest you get the next model up, the DC1300.

    I also noticed you put an insert into the hole on the side of the saw. Where did you get it? Did you 3d print it? I'm keen to do the same if I get the same saw as I've heard it can dramatically improve dust collection. Does it overheat the saw or blade though? Thank you in advance. :)

    Thanks for a great video! If the Wen track saw could cut the full depth of a similar hardwood, would you manually reduce the depth so you wouldn't go all the way through, so the saw doesn't bind? I'm thinking of getting the same Wen track saw and the only thing I wished it had was a riving knife. Since you didn't go ask the way through in your demonstration, you didn't need a riving knife on your cut, but you did need to protect against binds with your Japanese saw. How do you approach other cuts where you could go all the way through with the Wen if you wanted to?

       @poppopsworkshop Awesome, and thanks for the quick replies! You've definitely gives me more confidence in buying the same saw. My most immediate needs are ripping sheet goods and cutting parallel decking boards flush to a picture-framing edge, but it is good to know that with some care it can be used.for hardwoods even without the riving knife.

    I do woodworking primarily. But I have a welder that I use now and then. I welded up some lumber storage brackets, I modified a couple of things I needed to etc. A dedicated welding space would be nice, but not in the cards currently.

  • @walterdimmick653
    @walterdimmick653 2 місяці тому

    woodworking and welding are not a good mix to do in the same physical space. Eventually (shortly actually)you will have contaminated the area with a grime/metal filings/oil mixture that you will constantly be frustrated with when making wood projects. Of course the two skills compliment one another but they are not compatible in a shared work area.

    You probably already know this…but when you get it all dialed in and are ready for your final run, you can lay down some Oramask (or similar) film before cutting so when you pour your epoxy you protect the wood around the borders. Since you are using ply, you don’t have much leeway to sand off overflow.

    I learned a trick from a painter friend of mine. Did you see how the edges of your painters tape was curling up and not staying down which will cause bleeding under the tape? If before you stain you wet the tape down and press it to the wood, after letting it dry the tape will not curl up and will stay adhered to the wood to prevent bleeding.

    I have never had much success with connecting dust collection to a power miter saw. But, that could just be me. I hope it works out for you. I have seen dust shrouds that help to contain the dust. The seem a bit bulky to me. As for getting into small spaces, I keep a midget in my tool box for those occasions.
