8] Oh Balaam: (song) Sung by…? You guessed it, the donkey! As you sing it, you go back and forth from the narrator’s voice, to the donkey. This tells the story of God using a donkey to grab the attention of his wayward prophet, Balaam, who was being tempted to curse the Israelites by prophesying against them. But an angel got his attention, with a little help from his donkey. “Hee-haw!”

7] Esau Saw the Soup: An obscure Bible story that kids should know! What would tempt you away from loving Jesus? Meet someone who traded his ‘birth-right’, his inheritance, for a bowl of lentil soup. The most common temptation to ‘lure’ us away from Jesus is bad friends. Would you rather ‘be liked’ than to obey Jesus and keep God as your best friend?

6] Poor Widow: (song) This song is great for pretend. “Who wants to be the poor widow?” Bring a little girl up front and sit her in a chair. Begin a role play. “Is she happy or sad? Yes, she is poor, but she is also very happy to give everything she has to God”. What does it mean to be ‘rich in heaven?’

5] Peter Was a Fisherman: (song) This introduces kids to Peter’s call to follow Jesus; remarkably, as a ‘fisher of men’. Jesus goes ‘fishing’ for Peter, ‘catching’ Peter’s imagination. This song has a good rhythm for pretending to pull in ‘nets’ on the beat of the song. What does Jesus mean by ‘catching men’? Would you use candy bars? Being friendly? A musical rhyme-design that salutes Dr. Zeus...

4] Daniel and the Lion: (song) The verses are sung by the narrator in a hushed, scary way, and the three choruses have three types of lion; first one roars. Second one roars with ‘an angel’s hand over his mouth’, “Mmmmph”, and the third one ‘eats’m all up!” Another rowdy camp-song to wind’m up!

3] David Saw Goliath: (song) A rowdy camp-type, sing-along that celebrates David’s bravery and Goliath’s defeat; as he laments, “I should have stayed in bed!” The lyrics also remind us that David first fought a lion, as practice, before he took-on Goliath. It is fun to tell the story first acting it out with the kids, using the song as your finale.

2] Silly Joshua: Sung from the perspective of the people inside of Jericho, mocking Joshua and his people. Have the kids stick out their tongue and wag their fingers mockingly as they sing the chorus. Then at the end of the song, “You can’t win a battle with a horn”, lift your hands over your head, and wiggle-waggle your arms as you collapse on the floor singing, “Oh, yes, you can!”
