Make We Merry, Rhona Clarke - Cuore (2024)
Cuore Chamber Choir, conducted by Amy Ryan, perform Rhona Clarke’s ‘Make We Merry’. We're thrilled that this recording won 'Best Overall Choir' and 'Best Performance of a Contemporary Irish Choral Work' in RTÉ lyric fm’s annual 'Choirs for Christmas' Recording Competition.
This is a joyful contemporary Irish carol written by Dublin composer Rhona Clarke in 2014, originally for Chamber Choir Ireland, and recorded by Cuore in 2024 in the reverberant acoustic of St. Mary’s Haddington Rd.
Clarke gets us into the Christmas spirit with this wonderfully festive setting of a medieval Cornish carol. Bouncing articulations, exciting shifts in stress and metre, and effervescent interplay between the parts, all make for a piece full of joy and celebration!
