This is unedited tape from my VHS Camera/Recorder, I realise that it falls short of todays digital output but this was 1988 and 30 years is a long time, after all it is better than nothing so I hope you enjoy it.

This is priceless! Im so very glad this was captured on video.
Baby Henry
You cant knock a person who does things no one else can do.
Fred Dibnah, steeple-jack, mechanical genius, courageous, and a great public speaker!
And a Raffle at the end
He’s like Captain Mainwaring without the flat cap
to see him bandaged up bet he did that at home working on a honey dew list for the wife lol
Wish he had been around longer
Ayup lad. Love you!
Iconic man
Fred was totally fearless I really enjoy watching the videos of Fred at work rip Fred what a man you were
An Absolute true legend one of a kind truly missed
The best reality TV star ever .... Need more programs about real people....
My god… 30years ago already…
Wow. ❤ what a random delightful find 🇬🇧 October 2023
And then the raffle starts......real northern Britain.
they was days people talked not like today where there heads stuck in moble phone
If there was a true working class hero, with balls the size of an elephant, it was Fred, fearless friend of the people of Bolton and surrounding countries. Steeple jack, incredibly talented steam engineer and comedian. Definitely missed by all that knew him and those who didn’t. Absolutely a legend and god of the chimney and churches too. R I P LAD
I imagine that if you were lucky enough to bump into him in a pub, THIS is exactly what the meeting would be like.
He used to say if you meet someone from Bolton within 5 minutes they will tell you they're from Bolton. I can confirm this to be true and has made me laugh at inappropriate moments when being told without asking "I'm from Bolton" 😂. Thanks Fred
Does anyone remember Fred being banned for driving for 12 months in July 1988?. No I'm not making this up, this was mentioned in the Liverpool Echo newspaper dated 25th July 1988 which I came across recently. None of the Fred Dibnah series seem to mention this.
Just love the Cat story. Glad it survived it's adventure up the chimney and hopefully it still had another 8 lives left. Fabulous !!! Fred could certainly tell a story. Great after-dinner speaker. God Bless him.
Cant believe it's s been 30 years since this was film. Fred really was a man of a bygone age.
some fammiliar faces there looks like driver jack goodwin blowing kisses at the end there , used to go london on days out with him my dad and a few others , funny guy he used to say mind this monkey doesn't knick your choccolate when he comes out when we were on the underground platforms 🤣🤣🤣🤣
captures everything about victoria at that time , i weep at the wanton destruction when i visit now , i avoid a lot as too many ghosts ,, many fondly remembered visited places for me east west junction , deal street ( never went in irwell bridge ) the train crew rest room balcony ate lunch there often with many great charachters never got on east junctions roof those shots were terrific happy days i'd happily go back to
Surely it's so much better now? Victoria could be an incredibly dark, sleazy place back then.
@@zeddeka newer isn't necesarily better , at least we could afford the fares and get a seat
There’s something you don’t see - All trains on time!
Wonderful character who I had the pleasure of meeting many years ago. Never tire of watching his stuff and listening to his tales. This was a great clip of Fred really drawing people into his world for an hour. Pity the poe faced woman behind him struggled to raise a smile most of the time and found her watch more interesting. I think she perhaps some of Fred's dialogue was lost on her! R.I.P Fred and thanks for sharing your fantastic memories.
Fantastic that some of his stories were captured on film One of the best story tellers and as others have said, sorely missed.
This was the Victoria I remember
Fred was one of those people you could listen to him time after time and not get bored he made people happy may he rest in piece
If only someone had recorded Station Staff etc So we could replay stories & events, be intersesting to put names to faces long gone.
What a lovely man Fred was so full of enthusiasm and clever too he dint just talk the job he accomplished many many task most would shy away from loved this man so greatly missed.
My grandad worked as a driver at this station during this time I was hoping to see him in the mess room but he’s not there 😢
I probably worked with your your grandad Andrea. What's his name?

@@Andrea06081985 I remember Pete so well. He was a pleasure to work with and an absolute legend of a railwayman.
Just brilliant what a great man a typical tough old northerner irreplaceable brilliant engineer missed by all
This is a man I would love to have met. His interest in history and victorian engineering was great. And his engineering knowledge was amazing. I could have listened to him all day.

I've never wished a character to still be here more than Fred. Much loved character!
If he was still with us. People world have cancelled him for his toxic masculinity
same here
I still watch Fred!! Rip
So funny, what a raconteur 😀
I was only 6 days young at that time
Thank you very much for posting this.
Time stops for no one. And these videos are proof of this. Amazing videos. Full of nostalgia.
Grim.
Back then
Yea
Couldn't hear Fred properly for all the coughing and hacking; sounds more like a chest hospital than social gathering.
“Bloody hell thats going fast for a steam roller” classic.
