40% damage increase from skull earring is fairly substantial - not as much as some players think since it's additive, but it's sort of like obtaining a free damage increase chaos boon. The defensive keepsakes are better if you're struggling to defeat Hades. But if you're not struggling against him, you're typically trying to find ways to defeat him as fast as you can. Pierced Butterfly and Skull Earring are the best for this. The advantage of skull earring is that you can use the god keepsakes to create specific builds, then gain your damage boost from the earring on the final level. A lot of players shy away from skull earring because it only procs when at or below 30% health. The way I see it, if you're above 30% health, you're surviving well enough. If you drop below 30% and you seldom get hit, you see that boost. Not to mention, skull earring procs when below 30% health per death defiance, so you'll generally end up using it far more often than most people realize. It's even relatively safe to intentionally drop below 30% health if you have 2 or 3 death defiance left. That's my 2 cents.
the death defiance bit is exactly my thinking... honestly probably (at least) 50% of your hades fight is at skull earring health... so that's totally valid!! i definitely made this with more of a defensive mindset but honestly, 40% more damage, might be 20% of the fight that you just dont need to do because they're dead... pierced butterfly... i dont care for it because taking it early means no god boons which are definitely better in my opinion, although if you do crazy styx hitless theres a world where you can get it to 20% (maybe?), honestly id move chthonic coinpurse down, and chaos egg too, and id see skull earring taking its place at low B tier, but, as far as damage boosts for hades go... skull earring is actually your best option so its a shame i didnt mention that..! sorry for the wordy comment i just found your comment really insightful ^^
@@cobblestone8888 No worries, I'm no stranger to writing lengthy comments myself! And when it comes to Hades theory-crafting, I do enjoy a good read! For casual low-heat runs, I generally do God boons on the 1st and 2nd floor, coin purse on 3rd if I'm short on coins (I don't really need anything to help me survive), and skull earring on 4th floor unless my build is lacking, then I might go with a defensive boon. Then again, I have everything unlocked and maxed out... lol When playing the game from scratch, I use the other keepsakes much more often. I've developed an outline for defensive boons. Spiked Collar: Best defensive boon for general survivability each floor when you have 2 or more Death Defiance remaining. Myrmidon Bracer: Best defensive boon for survivability if you have at least ~225 health (assuming you seldom get hit from the back), if you have 2 or more DD remaining. Lucky Tooth: Best when you have 1 or 0 DD remaining. Acorn: Best defensive item against Hades - hands down Broken spearpoint: meh... I haven't found it useful personally. But some people swear by it. Pierced Butterfly, if I remember correctly, typically reaches ~35% when used effectively. But, as you said, it's better to use god boons to craft specific builds.
