Nobody's Listening is a groundbreaking Virtual Reality experience and immersive exhibition programme that commemorates the #yazidigenocide initiated by ISIS in the summer of 2014 in northern Iraq. Using cutting-edge #virtualreality technology, photography and art, the exhibition explores the consequences of the genocidal campaign by ISIS - its devastating effect on persecuted communities and their cultural heritage.
In 2024, Nobody’s Listening hosted a series of events in Iraq where more than 200 people participated in the Immersive #VR Experience. The VR experience was showcased in the following places:
- The University of Duhok
- The Catholic University in Erbil (CUE)
- The Station
- The American University in Iraq Baghdad
- The General Directorate of Sports Education and School Activities
- Red Terror Museum
- Halabja Memorial
- The US Embassy in Iraq
Nobody’s Listening Experience has served as a platform for education, reflection and advocacy. The VR presentations demonstrate how Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality can enhance the study and prevention of genocides, fostering a deeper understanding and empathy. Participants explored the devastating effects of the genocide, and the destruction it left.
High-level dignitaries including the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, Ambassador Alina Romanowski took part in the VR experience in an event at the US Embassy in Baghdad, reaffirming the U.S. Government’s support for the Yazidi community.
