Everybody wants to be deemed creative, but no one likes to fail. The truth is, however, that one cannot have one without the other. Philosophers and psychologists often stress that creativity is difficult. Being creative is not the ‘default’ program installed in our brains and minds. To think out-of-the-box, one needs to leave a well-beaten path - the behavioural patterns ingrained in one’s neural networks - and risk ending up with a failure. On a more radical reading, all our creative discoveries are failures - those exactly, which turn out to be useful. Given these facts, it is worth asking, when being creative is a worthy goal, and how to increase one’s chances of arriving at a truly creative solution to a problem, without the fear of a fatal failure.
