Awesome video. Have you seen my invitation of mini chainsaw 6 inch via email today?
Do you have problems with slugs? How do you manage this problem?
Enjoyed your video while recuperating from shoulder replacement. Like you, I find gardening a great stress relief as well as some much needed exercise. Being just an hour SW of you, I plan on following your lead on my gardening. I have gardened for 50 years, but since I am retiring first of the year, I am going to experiment with new crops and methods.
Those garlic are huge! 😮
Hey Cortney! So glad to see you making videos again ❤ I love to grow Garlic but have a hard time pinpointing when to harvest 🤔 Last year I let ‘em go too long and the cloves starting separating from the bulbs.
Thank you for this Cortney. I'm starting to like the idea of growing in containers.
I tried garlic in a 7 gallon planter. I can’t seem to get the soil right. What seems well draining to me turns out to be heavy the grow ok after plant ing but in the spring they rot. I had chard growing in the pot since spring. A mix of peat, perlite and compost. How would you amend it for garlic?
My backyard is full of pine trees can I use those needles or is your pine straw different?
Yes! I use mine
I’m behind on planting my garlic. I meant to do it a week or so ago. I’m getting it planted today.
So Cortney that you guys went through that. I’m glad you guys and your home is ok. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Great video! Glad you are bouncing back after the flooding.
Hi Sweet Friend!! So Glad Youre Back!! I Love Garlic, and have had Pretty Good Luck with It! Thank You So Much for All Your Wonderful Tips Always! Hope to Talk to You Soon, and God Bless You Always!!❤
Glad you are OK, Reed had mentioned on his channel that you got flooded.
Thank you! Got some hard neck in this year. Gonna use some of your tips for next year! Thanks
Thanks Courtney! My garlic is planted.
I have a huge problem with "Earwigs". I know they are a part of the ecosystem and eat other pest but they are also eating my plants. What do you do to control them?
🧅🧅🌳🏡
2 points for container gardening. Hailing from Jackson County NC (1 hour West of Asheville), I had to lug over 20 buckets of plants into the 3-season but they all survived. I watched the 60 foot trees sway in the rattling wind and cracked a cold one. Being a first year grower, I was a bigger torment than the storm. LOL If it's any consolation, my basement flooded too. The storm happened a week after the septic tank in my house went bad so 2-3 weeks later I'm hauling four 8x3 grow tables ass over tea kettle into a moving truck, dead-harvested buckets of soil, furniture made out of 2x4s, and everything else pretty much on my own. A lady the weekend after the storm showed me a picture on her camera of a septic tank that got pushed out of the ground from bouyancy, (however that's spelled, English, pff whatever lol). "From the naked eye I saw all the falling rain coming down on me"
It was definitely a workout hauling everything to safety! Lol Sorry to hear your basement flooded, too. I hope your septic issues are over! They’re not fun.
I'm so sorry to hear about your situation Courtney. But I believe you will get through this. You have what it takes. We hope and pray that the USA will recover speedily. 🌻🌺
Thanks so much! NC continues to be in our thoughts and prayers every day!
Wow! Sorry things got so messed up for you. I was wondering about you down there. 2 inches and 60-65 mph winds off and on over four days here. Really dreary and gloomy. Biggest impact from a hurricane I can ever remember here in IN. Your garden looks pretty good. Good luck! Looking forward to your future videos.
Thank you! Wow! 60-65 mph in IN! Amazing that impacts went that far north and inland. I hope a storm like that never happens again.
I thought about you and your family during the forecasted rains. Glad there was no major structural damage to your home, but oh golly, I sure don't like flooding. Glad ServPro was/is available! Looking forward to your upcoming videos. All the best to you as you emerge from the catastrophic rains. Thank you for sharing your journey with us!
Thanks so much for thinking of us! 💚
Great things ahead can't wait! NSG🌱
NSG!!! 🙌
Thank you for sharing this experience. Your family's resilience and determination will overcome the setback and make the garden space back even stronger than before. It's a small blessing to know the shortfalls now - before you have everything firmly established. Can't wait to see where things stand when spring rolls around. I fully believe the garden will be magnificent. GOOD LUCK!
Thanks so much! Grateful for the upcoming winter to have time to rebuild!
I've been wondering about you and your family and glad to see you are all alive and well. Your family, community and all of those affected by these hurricanes are in our thoughts and prayers
Thanks so much. NC remains in our thoughts and prayers every day!
Glad you are all safe. I would look into drain tile / French drain system around your house and garden area as you mentioned. Looking forward to your next videos.
Thank you!
I love greenhouses. 👍 Mulch well wishes in your region. 🙏
Thank you! I love them too. Hoping to get started on building a little one soon. 💚
So sorry you had to deal with the hurricane but glad you and your family were ok. My sump pump has to run or my basement will flood on a normal day. I now have 2 sump pumps in the same hole. The main one runs off electricity but the backup pump runs off water pressure so it works well without power. It has saved me a few times already! It would be a good option for you. Best of luck!
Thanks for these tips!! I will look into one of those pumps! Definitely need a backup.
Thank you, and please stay strong as you adjust to your new property.
Thanks so much! 🙌
@@CortneyGrowsFood You are always welcome Cortney.
I’ve been thinking of you since the storm hit. I am so glad that you and your family are ok 💕
Thank you! 💚
So glad you guys are ok. So sorry about the flooding. Reed was too hard on himself for not being there with you guys. Such a great brother. I'm up in the Charlotte, NC area, and we really dodged a bullet with the wind and rain. Just some localized flooding and some branches down Looking forward to more videos and watching the new garden grow. This will help me when I'm ready to start a garden in my backyard. Take care!!
Thank you for watching my videos! I’m so glad to hear they’ll be helpful for you when you start your garden. 💚 Reed’s the best brother!
You have gone through so much recently. I’m inspired how you maintain an upbeat attitude and positive outlook. Thanks for sharing that with us. Good luck rebuilding.😊
Thanks so much! It’s been an adventure for sure.
I’m so sorry for all that you and everyone impacted by Helene had to endure through the storm. The devastation in so many areas has been heartbreaking. Your attitude is so admirable. I do not do well in circumstances like you faced with the flooding as I feel helpless and don’t know what to do or who to call. I’m glad your family is okay and I hope the solutions to preventing water getting inside in the future are relatively easy to achieve.
Thanks so much! It’s definitely a helpless feeling when water comes in and then communication is cut off from the storm. I can’t imagine how the people in NC were feeling. So heartbreaking! They remain in our thoughts every day.
I live very close to you in Shelby,N.C. Like you when we found out what happened in the mountains, I felt guilty for being inconvienced with the loss of power and cell service. God bless you!
Definitely. We still have internet issues which is frustrating, but still just minor inconveniences in comparison. They remain in our thoughts and prayers every day.
Hello Sweet Friend!! So Glad You're OK! You were in my Prayers!! Thank You for Your Wonderful Tips as Always!! Hope to Talk You Soon!! God Bless!🙏🕊❤️🕊
Thank you so much!! 🤗
🌴🏵🌷
💚
I thought about you when the hurricane went through. I'm glad you posted an update.
Thanks so much! 💚
Great video Courtney! Watching this video reminded me of the nail biter on that Friday morning. It was rough here in the upstate. Your setup is coming along great in such a short amount of time! Glad you guys are safe
Thanks so much! A memorable experience for sure.
We did nantes and they were the only thing that survived well. They did great!
This is great to hear! 💚 I think I’m going to try more in the spring because I lost mine to the storm.
Thaw in the plastic bags, then drain all the tomatoe water off before you put in pot to cook down. Cooking time cut in half
True but a lot of flavor lost down the drain then. I put it in a slow cooker and let it simmer down and you don’t have to watch it so closely.
Thanks for sharing!
@wendylambel39 Great idea to use a slow cooker, I’m sure the flavor is amazing that way! I always wish there could be bigger sizes.
Thank you so much for this lesson. I tried growing garlic last year and failed. I'll try to grow it again this year. If you're from the Carolinas, I hope you made it out well from the storm that went your way.
You’re very welcome, good for you for getting out there and trying it! It’s the only way. 🌱 I’m sure you’ll get a good harvest if you keep trying. We’re safe after the storm, thanks so much. Minor damages compared to just north of us. Internet has been off/on so I haven’t been able to upload videos until now!
Thank you so very much and God bless you and your family.
Thanks so much for watching.
Only grown melons in recent yrs but quit buying them many yrs ago, complete crap from the store. Had volunteer from mostly shaded compost pile this yr and to my surprise it's producing modestly well w only a couple hrs direct sun. Good info for us novices.
Agree that the garden ones taste much better than store-bought! That’s great that you had volunteers growing. Always seems like they’re the strongest plants! 😁
Praying for you and your mom.
Thanks so much, we’re doing fine, we had minor damage compared to the devastation just north of here. 😢 Finally getting internet back enough to upload a video I think! 🤞
I hope y'all are doing ok after the storm!! Y'all have been in my prayers ❤
Thanks so much! We’re doing fine, still cleaning up flood damage but minor compared to the devastation just north. 😢 We’re just getting internet back, and still spotty at best. Trying to upload videos!
Hello organic and natural good job!
Thank you! 💚🌱
I just love watching your videos. I've probably mentioned this before, but I don't have a green thumb - AT ALL - and I really appreciate the knowledge you have for gardening. It's truly inspiring and you make it look easy. I would really love to start growing a few things, but I'm starting from ground zero. lol I hope you and your children are hanging in there and like your new place.
Thanks so much for watching. Even if you’re starting from ground zero, you can do it! I grew up around gardening, but when I started out at my first house on my own, I grew lettuce in a few containers. Some of it made it and some didn’t, but it was a start. Maybe you’d enjoy starting out with containers (or grow bags) and see where it goes! 💚🌱 Thank you, we’re finally feeling settled in the new place - and getting ready for hurricane rains coming inland this week! 🤞
Nice to see you back. Well done with your methods, and inspiration to everyone.
Thanks so much! I appreciate you joining me here on my channel!
I love the apron
Thank you! It’s a Roo apron. They’re so helpful!
@@CortneyGrowsFood it looks that way
Great fall info. You are so good at gardening! Glad the move and new place is working out for you. Really looking forward to your videos at your new place and your progress. Looks like you have plenty of land. Keep them coming. Good Luck!!
Thank you! Slowly getting settled in the new place and getting ready for hurricane rains coming inland this week. We had some flooding issues from random thunderstorms last night and lots more rain coming!
Yay! You have been missed! Looking forward to your gardening successes!
Thanks so much for watching! 💚🌱
