Glenmore Cross Country Skiing, Aviemore, Cairngorms National Park, Scotland
Join me on an unforgettable cross-country skiing adventure through the snowy trails of Glenmore Forest Park! Located just 10 km east of Aviemore, this winter wonderland offers perfectly groomed tracks courtesy of the Cairngorm Biathlon & Nordic Ski Club.
This year’s 6 km loop starts at the Hayfield car park, winding through stunning forests and offering breathtaking views of Loch Morlich, Meall a' Bhuachaille, and Geal-charn Mor. I tried skate skiing for the first time while my wife stuck to the classic cross-country style-both equally fun in these pristine conditions!
Whether you're a seasoned skier or a complete beginner, Glenmore Forest Park is the perfect spot to enjoy winter sports.
Thanks to the Cairngorm Biathlon & Nordic Ski Club for cutting the tracks ( Cairngorm-Biathlon-Nordic-Ski-Club-100057389742801/). If you have used the trails or just enjoyed the video, please consider making a donation to help cover the costs of track cutting: localgiving.org/charity/glenmore-winter-tracks Thanks!

    May I respectfully repeat the question posed earlier ... why? What is the point? There is an annual (supported) race that takes around 13-14 hours If you wish to participate then apply to take part. If you wish to enjoy the West Highland Way then take your time, enjoy the views, chat to other walkers and hear their stories, stop off and rest and enjoy the food and take pleasure in your success. What you are attempting is a stunt. A few months ago the BBC in Scotland were bigging up the story of some child having cycled the West Highland Way in some ridiculous time, like 24 hours. The actual purpose remained unstated. My personal reaction as a walker was one of despair. It was no better than a stunt. How long before the WHW becomes a target for mountain bikers taking it as a challenge and charging along the Way and yelling at walkers to get out of the way?

    • @infinitehighlands
      @infinitehighlands 7 днів тому

      It's a personal challenge. By the nature of your comment you don't see it that way, and that's great, we are all different. You suggest I run the race (it's supported, costs money and I don't want or need someone else to organise my holidays, plus you have to enter months in advance) or walk it and interact with others. I enjoy my time alone on the trails and in the mountains, maybe this isn't a trail to be alone on, and if you watch to the end of my video you see that I don't really enjoy it for that exact reason, I would rather be on the mountain tops than on lowland trails, I did it for the personal challenge a last minute decision when I had some time off. I filmed it as enjoy the filming and editing videos, it's a hobby (I make no commercial gain by doing so, on the contrary it costs me time and money to create these videos) I merely publish to UA-cam so others can enjoy, be inspired or (like you) simply disagree with what I put in the public domain, free speech is great :). To you it's a stunt, to me it's a challenge. Why watch my video if it's not of interest to you, the title & thumbnail are clear and concise, no clickbating here! Have you done the trail yourself?

    • @infinitehighlands
      @infinitehighlands 5 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching. Yes, the Cairngorms are more like rounded hills compared to the west coast mountains, but it's the forests around here that are special for me. Living with the Rothiemurchus forest on my doorstep means I get out running a few times a week whatever the weather, I literally just have to step out the house and cross the road, for me that makes it all worthwhile.

    I think you were going too fast at the beginning. Personally, I would have gone slower, but many more hours of walking. That route can be walked in 48hrs at an average of 4km/h and even then you should still have over 10 hours to sleep. The question is whether you would enjoy walking at night, I take it as a diversion a few times a year.

    Different approach than mine. I took my time to walk the WHW in 10 Days to experience from landscape, culture and history as much as I can. But nice to see how to experience this trail in another way. Sorry to see it failed in the end, but anyway a brave achievement. Thank you for sharing.

      Thank you for sharing your experience. The West Highland Way is indeed a beautiful trail with so much to offer, and it's great to hear you're taking the time to soak it all in over six nights and seven days. Attempting it in two days was definitely challenging, but it was an adventure I wanted to take on. Every hiker’s journey is different, and that’s part of what makes the WHW so special.

    I don't understand 'fastpacking'. I hiked the West Highland Way in April- to me, taking my time, soaking up the amazing scenery, chatting to people from all over the world along the way and feeling joy in nature is why I hike. I know everyone is different, but maybe take it slow sometime?

      Thanks for your comments. It was filmed on the 3rd May this year. The majority of the snow will now have melted, there may just be very small patches around in some of the more sheltered areas.

    Devil’s Point used to be called Devil’s Knob but it offended some easily offended people.
