A weekend out fishing, and I caught something I REALLY didn't want to!
We loaded up and took my Honda Rebel out for a ride out across Auckland this past Labour Weekend to check out some of the spots I fish less frequently, had a fun ride, but ended up catching something I didn't quite expect!

How to ride a motorcycle: A beginner's guide to safe motorcycle riding
Went at tht second spot December last year 5am got 6 good size snappers in two hours
@@loonatick0072 yeah mate I find morning/evening there is good - think there's a bunch of rocks along the channel boats use to get into the marina and the snapper hang close by because of the shellfish beds.
i ALWAYS SWIM HERE, NEEDA BRING MY RODS SOMETIME.
@@SIDEWAYZNZ Yeah definitely bro! Chuck out a line and see what you get. I don't think I've had a day down there without at least catching a few small kahawai.
Great vid! New Sub. Where abouts did you get that bucket? Great bit of kit.
@@paulglucina1184 welcome to the fam mate! Much appreciated. The bucket I got through mighty ape here in NZ: tinyurl.com/bdeb4etp and the bubbler I use with it these days is one from Rapala, got that through Burnsco Marine: tinyurl.com/5n7z5s25 . Makes a pretty good combo for keeping live bait alive or if you're taking kids fishing and don't really want to keep the fish
Fishing there is crap everywhere
@@SkySeka dunno about that mate, I've seen some decent snapper and kahawai caught up and down that beach at times. Especially when the pipi etc are prolific on the sandbars
Those roads look familiar haha. Was out there last week got busted off by what felt like a shark, other than that was dead as. That inner side you're fishing seems to be a bit of a nursery for younger fish, gets more action (and more snags) but mostly undersize fish in my experience
@@jacobb9486 Yeah was planning to go a bit further around the point but had a look and all the good spots were covered in rods already 😅 Figured I'd make do and see how I went. Did talk to a few fellas who caught some decent kahawai otherwise it was pretty quiet. Will have to try another day and go further round the rocks
@Ride_Reel yeah I don't bother with the manukau on weekends lol it's like queen st out there. But yeah plenty of kahawai, I've had more luck with metal lures than bait along that section of coast
@jacobb9486 yeah have a few old school metal spinners I might give a go, also got some of those synthetic fishbites I've been meaning to try.. Will have to switch up my kit for the next trip!
@@Ride_Reel sounds like a good plan, good luck man 🎣
Missed the scary part.
Come try fishing in Whitianga it is the best!
@@treasuretrails Will have to give it a go! Went over to Matarangi last year, caught so many kahawai with my dad off the beach. What's the usual over Whitianga side?
@@Ride_Reel Can catch huge record breaking trevally over here off the beach in whitianga!
@@treasuretrails awesome! Haven't caught a good trev for years, will definitely add that to my list of places for my next road trip.
Cool walkthrough. It was an awesome show
Thanks mate! It was definitely a great show, was amazed by how wide the variety of bikes was, some of them were clearly lifelong projects.
I like to cast jigs from that very spot. Good pipi’s on that sand bar to your right on the shallow sand there too.
Yeah I've gone digging for pipi on slow fishing days, sometimes there's heaps but sometimes it's a bit hard to find decent ones. What kind of jigs do you throw out there?
@@Ride_Reel 30-40g micro jigs mate, it is awesome fun. The Catch pocket rockets, see the guys at Bubbas supplies Whangamata
@@otklfnz yeah Bubba's is my go to when I'm down that way, legends there for fishing supplies and local knowledge. Will have to give that a go, haven't done much jigging for a long while.
Great video! I will be subscribing for sure!
Thanks for the support! Always good to see other anglers out there, tight lines to ya!
Mullet, and fresh kahawai, excellent bait..
Oh absolutely! Don't taste too bad to humans either if treated right, but small kahawai like that definitely make amazing kingfish bait if they're lurking around. Still trying to catch one of those beasts, somehow they've eluded me so far. Thanks for watching mate, and look forward to more content.
Love session
Thanks for watching! It was a fun trip down there with my Dad, think we caught 3-4 good rainbow trout altogether over a few days.
@@Ride_Reel im setting up my bike for a fishing motocamping trip as well and stumbled upon your channel. Looking forward to more content.
Fishing and motocamping? Sounds like the perfect combo! Just don't forget to pack the snacks-those fish won't catch themselves!
Beautiful spot! But 15:31 too long! 😁
@@seaview1997 thanks for watching and the feedback, planning to make some more short form content of beautiful places soon enough.
Did you find any spots 😊
Ended up going back up to one of my childhood fishing spots, unfortunately with the wind and tides it was a bit of a bust, but that's just part of fishing!
bro where do i get one of these
If you're in NZ you can grab one from www.mightyape.co.nz/product/ape-basics-6-hole-folded-fishing-net/34427802 but I think you can get similar versions from Temu or other shops. I just had it on the bottom with an 18oz sinker to keep it down, and chucked some basic berley nuggets in it. Tight lines and good luck to you!
New subscriber,❤❤❤
