Simple DIY candle as effective mosquito repellent
How I create a candle to repel mosquitoes and other insects using old cooking oil, lavender oil, and other items from around the house. Simple but effective in repelling mosquitoes around a porch or small area. Make several to expand the coverage area and mix with other repellent oils to increase effectiveness.

I seen this bear video using nunchucks and had to have some fun with it by adding some scenes from Bruce Lee movies. I do not own any rights to these videos. This is just for fun and to put a smile on some faces...even if we can’t see those smiles behind the masks.

Hello again what I mean is How long does it last burning??
Hello I just wondering how long does it last ??? I'm going camping here in Michigan late August.
I am going to try this recipe that you had made. Thank you for sharing your wonderful 😊 idea. With all this rain in Massachusetts the Mosquitoes are bad. God Bless you 🙏🏻 and stay safe 🙏🏻 👏🏻
How does it work at night time though not during the middle of the day
I'm not sure. I only use it when I'm outside with it to monitor. The light may attract other bugs so I would recommend having a bug zapper nearby as well. In my opinion, most things are best done in layers and not a one solution strategy. Let me know if you try it at night and how it works out for you.
That's cool, I have a few of those anchors around!!!
There is huge space for improvement in your presentation。No center point, what are you trying to say?
Hi Alice, I thought the style of content was great, especially the presentation. In this age of spasticity, the slowed down content was refreshing. There was very little dead air in the video that could not be attributed to needing to focus on the task at hand. All dialogue was on topic. While I understand what you mean about the lack of a center point, what else could be improved upon in this presentation? You seem to have a clear preference which, if articulated fully, can usually be very useful to content creators
What didn't you understand. at least 10 times he said this was how to make a Candle to repel mosquitoes.. That was the center point of the presentation.
Great video. I like how simple it is. You have a good tone to you voice. I didn't know Lavender was a repellent I will tey this. THANKS.
Second time cooking in my chimp. The first cook was a pork butt @ 6 hours @ 300 degrees. Kept the same temperature all day and was impressed that it didn’t eat pellets like my Black label 1000 Lousiana grill. Anyway this is my second time and it’s a brisket, it’s been over 6 hours @ 275 and hasn’t eat much pellets BUT I got my first error code…. Jammed & I realized how much it sucks to not have a way to pour out pellets from hopper… my probe also doesn’t work. It’s unfortunate.
I purchased the Grilla Chimp. Without a doubt, the Chimp is a piece of junk. I call it a $600 lessened learned. Save yourself the cash and go with another brand.
Why u say that? Anything specific?
I appreciate this video! I ordered a chimp about 2 hours ago. I’m hyped for brisket!!!
😅😅😅
I will give it a try , thank you
I am going to try. thank you!👍
update 2023, i had a look at the price on your sticker and laughed. that brisket is 110$ now where i live. 😢
Wow! At those prices, I may have to go vegan! Nah! I'll just Uber part-time for my briskets! Inflation is real!
Why did you score your brisket on Borge sides? Never seen that before. I have done it with a pork butt.
Sorry for the delayed response. I score the fat side to get the seasoning into the gaps (since salt does not penetrate fat). I score the meat side since often there is a thin layer of silver skin or some type of membrane. It allows the seasoning to get underneath and also breaks up the membrane up so it's not noticed when eating.
Great video, using the Chimp with the power source....exactly what I needed to know! Brisket looks fantastic too!
Waiting for my Chimp, and enjoyed this vid. Glad to see you thought of the pupper!
yooo, 1 year old comment but whats the most number of people you have fed using the chimp? Or better yet whats the biggest piece of meat slapped in one you have done? Looking to get one for airbnb trips and some small family gathering
Does the Chimp hold a temperature setting or is it all over the place? I want to buy one but people complain it's not steady??? Any info appreciated, Thanks
It does a real good job at holding the temperature. You have two options, one for more smoke (more temperature fluctuations), and the other is less smoke (like baking..with smoke flavor). I use a wireless meat probe (meater block) and noticed they are pretty close. Just know that the swings in temperature are way less than if you are using charcoal.
Great video. Thanks.
After using your Yeti - would you buy the same one again or something different?
Technology has improved since I bought it but I still love it. The only thing I wish it had was faster solar charging which the newer ones have. I love the portability of it and it provides the right amount of power for what I need. I’ve had it for around 3 years now and have not had any issues with it at all. Hope that helps.
@@jermaineshorter35 thanks so much. I am looking at getting a chimp and a power station for camping and power outages.
I have a Chimp and am going to do a turkey this Thanksgiving. Curious why you didn't spatchcock for an easier fit?
great video, all you need now is a brisket knife, looks like a bread knife without serations.
Now how tender was that brisket if I could cut it with a bread knife? Lol. You are correct though. I just used what I had at the time.
I got the chimp and love it,i use a disposable aluminim pan so no real clean up.I also have a portable solar 2000 watt with 3 batteries all gel cell and renogy 100 watt panel.Put in in a rolling tool box.I blocked off the top opening to keep heat and more smoke in,dosent hurt it and slows pellet consumption.I have solar on my 18ft bug out trailer but the goal zero is nice, but i made the same thing way cheaper basically, again great video.
Sounds awesome. I’d love to see a picture of your setup.
Good stuff! I enjoy watching your videos. Has removed some guess work for me. Thanks
How many watts did you see it pull on startup? Everyone generalizes 300-500 but interested in the exact figure you saw.
Looks GREAT!!! How do you like the Chimp? I’m thinking of getting one.
Super neat! About how long does the candle burn for? Also, since you’re reusing oil from previous cooking, did it give the candle any strange scent? But great video, thanks for the tips!
Good questions. The candles will burn for hours at a time. I don’t have the exact time but I’ve used the same one for hours at a time and over several days. There is no additional scent that is given off. I was worried that the oil would smell like French fries (not like that’s a bad thing) but all I could smell is the lavender oil. I would recommend filtering the oil if it has a lot of crumbs or something prior to using it. You can use a coffee filter, paper towel or even an old sock for that. Have fun with it and let me know. How it works for you.
@@jermaineshorter35 Thanks for the tips! I’ll have to give it a try soon, but fortunately, the mosquitoes haven’t come out to play yet (fingers crossed)
I have the sliverbac from gorilla grillz. Do you think it draws more wattage at start up? I’m looking for a battery powered generator and really don’t want to use my gas inverter generator. But also don’t want to break the bank looking for one. Any recommendations?
I don’t know about the silverback power requirements. Since it’s bigger, I’m sure it will draw more wattage but not by much since it’s using the same control system. If you are open to spending around $35 on a kill a watt reader, you could connect it to your grill and run it for an hour. That would allow you to see the maximum wattage at startup and estimate how large of a battery you would need for an hour of cook time. I’ve done this for the chimp and editing the video now. P3 International P4460 Kill A Watt EZ Electricity Usage Monitor
I DIDNT READ THE TITLE PROPERLY FOR A SECOND AND I THOUGHT IT SAID YOU WERE COOKING A CHIMP
That reminded me of one of the Indiana Jones films. Classic!
great vid! What's the smallest portable power station do you think I could get away with for tailgating purposes
Editing a video on that now. Should be out soon. Short answer is you need something that can output 300watts continuously.
thanks for the video. FYI - if you put a damp kitchen rag under your cutting board it will keep it from moving all over the place!
Lol. Busted! I usually use a wet paper towel under the cutting board but forgot.
Great video, i love my chimp too
Pimp that chimp!
Awesome Brisket cook video. Made me hungry. I have been debating on this grill or the R&V smoke works gas grill. Which is more expensive. Also if you haven’t tried mesquite yet on a brisket give it a shot. Great flavor
Thanks Gator. I switch between mesquite, Hickory and Post Oak depending on my mood and what I have available. FYI- Grilla Grills is now adding a wireless connection to the grill allowing you to remote start and stop the grill and see the internal temperature of your food from your phone. I have the meater probe so it doesn't benefit me much. Let me know what you decide to get.
So you need a 1000 dollar battery to run this thing portably what a joke😂
Not at all. The Yeti is what I use to power appliances during blackouts at home, powering power tools, tv’s and many other things when out and about. With the small amount of power the Chimp draws, you can power it with a much smaller device. You just need to make sure it can do up to 300 watts to cover the heat up cycle and around 100 watts per hour of use. Since you brought it up, I’ll do a video on that.
@@jermaineshorter35 that would be amazing id love to see that cause I was very interested in this grill but I’m just not sure what I’d use for battery source when camping I know the Davy Crockett comes with a 12 volt cord to hook up to your car or a 12 volt battery
Already looking at the Grilla Grill, but I like the use of the Yeti because I've been considering getting one. Thanks for including it in your video.

Have you done fat side down with a brisket at all? I've never used a pellet smoker and looking into the chimp, but another guy thinks that with these smaller units with the heat so close to the meat, having the fat side down helps protect the meat. LOOKS GREAT THOUGH!!!!
Now that is the age old debate everyone talks about. I’ve done it fat side up and down and really found that there is no difference. A pellet grill has a wide stainless steel drip pan that is under the grill racks so it’s almost like cooking with indirect heat....almost. If I were cooking over direct flames, then yes, fat side down. Indirect heat, I would put fat side up during half the smoke time then flip it for the other half. When I wrap it, I would then go back to fat side up to let the fat melt into the meat and also allow the meat to marinate in the juices until it reaches the internal temperature that I want. I hope that helps. Let me know how yours turns out! Cheers!!
Grab an empty can to use instead of paper cups for your grease catch can. If you’re like us you always have canned corn or maybe some soup cans laying around. Works perfect 👌🏼
How exactly would you have used the butchers twine? Tied the meat before vacuum sealing so it stayed together? Thanks for sharing, looks delicious!
I would have tied the sting around the meat in three locations prior to seasoning the meat so that it would stay together during the cook. It would have made it easier to sear and more presentable when serving. Overall, I was very happy with how it turned out! Let me know if you cook one and how yours turns out. Cheers!
Realy good review, think im good with this smaller pellet grill, ive been a wood fired but im getting old lol.
Getting old is what made me get one too. Add the wireless meat probes and you will find yourself looking for something to do while your brisket is cooking. I can now BBQ during a football game without missing a play. :)
It smoked at first but when you were further along I didn’t see really any smoke. Is that common?
Yes. You first want to do a 45 minute burn in so all of the oils from it being shipped is burned off. The grill does have a lot of smoke at first then it lightens up. If you go to mode 2, extra smoke, the grill will have moments when you will notice more smoke at different times throughout your cook. That’s the mode I prefer to use for my meats.
At what temp did u do the whole cook at ?
225 degrees. Low and slow.
@@jermaineshorter35 thanks!!
I would use unwaxed dental floss to tie wings down maybe? I do that when I fry my turkeys. My $.02
I have had my Chimp for a year now. I have added the "pimp my chimp" accessory, front collapsable shelf and the jerky racks are on order. I have cooked 3 briskets, ribs, pork butts, meat loaf. All amazing smoke flavor. I have grill grates and have grilled hamburgers, steaks and chops. This is a no brainer. Also I am in Wisconsin and mine has the legs folded up and it sits on a wood countertop with a cover year round. I have never had an auger jam or error code.
This looks delicious! Great job
Got a Chimp arriving soon and out of all the videos I've watched prior to finally buying it, this one is up there. Simple, excellent showing your step by step process, etc. I won't be starting out with a brisket, but when I decide to put on m big boy pants and try one, yours will have been the one to get me there. Big thanks!
Thank you. It’s been my pleasure sharing how I Grill/BBQ using my chimp. You will find that doing a brisket is not going to be as hard as you think. It just takes longer. Do me a favor and let me know what you made and how your first cook goes on the chimp. Please be sure to cook off all of the oils and cover your drip pan with heavy duty foil before starting your first cook. Bon Appetit!
@@jermaineshorter35 will do and thanks again!
Great video I have a chimp but have not cooked a brisket yet . But turkey I have cooked and pulled pork comes out great ...
Thanks. Let me know how your brisket turns out. I just did a turkey that turkey that came out great! I’m updating that video later this week. Please subscribe to the channel so you can get alerted when it comes out and please let me know if you did anything different. I love comparing recipes.
Awesome! Love that knife! Awesome looking Brisket!
It looks delicious!
Jacque Minor thanks! It is! 😋
How much smoke taste does this pellet grill provide compared to wood or charcoal. I've been told pellets don't give much smoke taste
That is true. Pellet grills don’t provide as much smoke compared to wood or charcoal. I get around this by lowering the temperature and leaving the meat in a little longer to get that extra smoke flavor or I will add a smoke tube and fill it with pellets. They work great and I even use it on a gas grill. I’ve also added some charcoal to the smoke tube when I want that charcoal taste too.
@@jermaineshorter35 Does the smoke tube add much smoke I've never used one reason I'm asking is I'm thinking about getting one of them Grilla Chimp pellet grill
Jeff Burgess yes sir. The combination of the smoke from the pellet grill with the smoke tube will be more than enough. I just don’t recommend doing a large brisket since the heat from the smoke tube can cause that area to cook faster and dry out.
@@jermaineshorter35 Ok tks good to know
