Brother John Hamman's Final Aces
Even more amazing than Hamman's card magic was Brother John's life.
This is from Kaufman's introduction to Final Aces:
When Bro. Hamman was age twenty-five he was stricken with polio. He spent many months laying in a hospital bed, almost completely paralyzed. Though he had already been interested in magic for years. it was not until he was unable to move that he began to create card tricks. The first of these was "Final Aces," which he devised completely in his mind - he was not able to move his arms at the time (he still suffers from partial paralysis in one arm). For most, busy fingers are a liability when it comes to creating magic. The mind often stops prematurely because the fingers are too eager to move. Bro. John was forced to formulate a way of thinking about card magic that put intellectual activity first. This manner of creation, of dreaming some new thing up and figuring it out completely in the mind, has stayed with Bro. Hamman. It is his way.

A tutorial would be rather useless- the technical work is extremely easy but only fraction of the "work." The instructions and guts can be acquired rather inexpensively. Look for the Ron Bauer booklet or Houdini's Magic shop booklet with everything included- normally under $20. I'd highly recommend the Kaufman Book The Secrets of Brother John Hamman for this and some of the best kept secrets in card magic. Best of luck and if you need help acquiring this I do have a few for sale. Contact me at closeupdeceptions@gmail.com

Very nicely done. Certainly the best version out there. I love Tim Conover. He was a brilliant thinker.

I have. I love Vanishing Inc. and Joshua Jay. But it’s overpriced and not really the best solution in my opinion. Using the replica Morgan’s is cheaper but they talk, and won’t soften. Using them in the Triad set is OK but it limits the ability to do any other vanishing sequence. The bill as a cylinder is not new and Tabman had a poker chip version using this in the 90s. Again it’s cheaper but limits the handling options if you choose to branch out your methods. The ring is cool but Paul Wilson’s set used rubber pennies which I think makes better use of the idea but I prefer a cork. The liquid load is a kicker but this routine doesn’t need a final load. The strength lies in the clean vanishes and reproductions and just doesn’t fit me. I’m all for progress but this puts a routine that is technically challenging and obscure in the hands of every day hobbyists to butcher and tarnish. It used to be only for serious folks because none of the props were available en masse and had to be made by custom craftsman. I cherish this routine and the time I spent with Tim Conover learning it and I just hate seeing it bastardized and available for Google search with an ad copy that gives away the method. End of rant. Thanks for watching!
