As always I am reduced to tears with anything to do with horses in a predicament. A world class song with a world class video. Thank you. My book I have almost finished -"IF THE MOUNTED HORSEMEN CAN'T DO IT, NOBODY CAN" - is a Requiem to the Horses and their beloved rider/soldiers. Jill Adam in Tabulam where Harry Chauvel was born and spent the first 25 years of his life. Our Light Horse Monument here is worth the journey to view it!
Hello Jill. Mum Hermit, Kerrie Gambley, grew up in Old Bonalbo. She wrote the song after hearing a snippet of family history. We all visited the Light Horse Monument in a brief pause between lockdowns last year, but it wasn't quite finished. We look forward to seeing the finished version. We're still making the "Official" film clip, with the support of the Australian Light Horse Association, The General Sir Harry Chauvel Memorial Foundation, Australian War Animal Memorial Organisation and the Waler Horse Society of Australia, as well as many members of the public from all over Australia.

Well done! It was a very special Anzac Day Dawn Service.
The horses were never shot. The only horses that was killed were sick or badly injured. The Walers were given away.
Many, many horses were categorised into C and D (old, sick or injured, as you say) by the veterinarians and they were shot. The remainder were sold to various purchasers, including the Indian Army. This song reflects the trauma of ALL of them (but one) being left behind, and the troopers having to say goodbye to their beloved horse. Thank you for your interest.
