Gotta love those Quake 3 aesthetics!
As you've probably guessed, I got back into playing Q3A over the holidays and this video is a round up of clips. Quake 3 Arena was my first Quake game (on a PC, anyway) and it holds a special place in my heart.
I've been enjoying the (mostly) vanilla gameplay via the q3retro servers (I was more of an OSP enjoyer back in the day). But it's got everything you need: the maps, the weapons, the sounds and let's not forget those skins.

You might want to increase your fov a bit? But I'm watching on a mobile phone and haven't played for years so don't take it as gospel.. if you're using the default fov 90 then try 110, really improves your visibility.
this is 110. I play a mix of QW/the Quake 1 remaster/Q3/QL/QC so have to find a sweet spot across all of them. The real issue is sensitivity - I'm very low sens which makes the movement a bit more challenging as I have to drag my mouse around a lot.

@@ericomfg I play a lot of Quake - 1/QW, Champions and QL. But there’s something about Q3A that is just different. I’ve been having a blast playing it and recommend getting it reinstalled. The Steam version runs well on modern systems with a few tweaks.
@@derelict85 Can you find ppl on public server in 2024?
@ depends which server but yes. We used a combination of playing on the q3retro communities servers and shoutouts for games on Discord and social media. The q3retro community has a big discord and the chat/activity is relayed so people can see when you’re on. And like any older game people tend to be around during peak evening hours.

great to see these old clips man, i remember trying to just get as many people as i could in a server. I think the most i remember hosting was 22-23 on death32c running instagib and it held for quite a bit too. Every second there was a gib sound :O
I do love it when it's packed. I took a bunch of screenshots at the time and the servers were always busy with lots of familiar faces. Good times! The 500 Frags tourney in Jan was pretty busy wasn't it?
Man these must be some old clips. I haven't seen that many people in a QE server in a long time. I'm guessing before the server got antilag cause looks like your shots are really delayed compared to now.
yeah, quite possibly, this is over a year ago. There was some funky rockets and SSG! But it somehow still really fun even with the ping and Switch.

Where are you play? In steam?
I use eZQuake and this was on a community-run server (see: quakeone.com/server-browser). But I've played with the Quake 1 Remaster through Steam to connect to these servers in the past as well.
Super Shotgun with Quad Damage is a deadly combination.

I was thinking in ggx Q1 (the server mod this is played on) the SSG is basically RG... at close to medium range anyway 👍
