Yes you’re right but from what I hear NS and CSX both wanted it but CSX got the line but other than this line what you’re saying is primarily correct

I believe it was electric until Potomac Yard which was in Alexandria Virginia but hopefully more lines will be electrified!

It’s due that CSX owns the track from Washington to Florida. It’s would have cost them lot of money to put electric wires up and may restrict the cargo need to carry.

They were never electrified past the Alexandria Potomac Yards, which back in the day were primarily used for turnaround and storage.

Main reason why is because these lines aren’t owned by Amtrak, but owned by csx. If the lines gets electrified, csx would have to pay and then they cant run most freight like container stacks and auto carriers.

I didn't know the history of that formerly electrified line between Union Station and Potomac Yard - turns out that Potomac Yard is where PRR freights (which were often hauled by electric locomotives) exchanged with southeastern railroads (which were steam / diesel only). Once Conrail stopped running electric freight over the former Pennsy lines there was no need to maintain the catenary wires and they were removed (and hopefully recycled). Suppossedly there was no need to remove the pole structures as the clearence further up on the line negate running double-stacks regardless?

The horn on Csx 1776 is a Leslie S5T I believe

ES44AC 1776 has a Leslie horn, but it’s a Leslie RS3L horn.

@@WestsideDomoIt is an S5T. Not all of the bells/trumpets are sounding off making it sound like an S3L. It’s a good example of why those Leslie S chambers became a hassle and Leslie developed the modern spiked RS chambers.

@@appalachianrails Makes sense. I’m not surprised that the horn had gotten fouled bad. It wouldn’t surprise me that the first gen Nathan K5HLL horns on some of the 700s and 800s numbered GE ES44ACs will be so foul sounded to where the horn will sound like a first gen K5HL horn on an ES44DC. Lol

That would explain a lot from the videos I see at train stations over there! Here on the northeast corridor in some places where it is 4 tracks the tracks closer to the platform have a lower speed limit than the middle tracks… but there are a good amount of stations that are maybe 2 tracks along the northeast corridor or 3 tracks where trains bypass stations at high speeds.

@@AcelaRailfanning Yes and also if I speak now specifically about Germany is that high speed lines use the LZB safety system whereby high speed trains with the AFB function will slow down automatically by itself. The driver doesn't need to break the train manually by him or herself. To go back to the Northeast Corridor, I play Train Sim World 4 on the Playstation 5 and I also have the Northeast Corridor as DLC route betweeb Boston and Providence. So, when I am driving the trains, I pass the stations at 125kps.

Yeah it is! From what I hear there’s also a shortage of them in service. That is why some trains on the keystone corridor have a double ended ACS-64 consist.

They're _old_ hence the withdrawal. The Airo cab car replacements are well in the works.
