It's such a bleak place with hardly any people. My 4x great grandparents had a street named after them in Thurso, Carnbay Place, think it's still there, although their big house is long gone. Their 3 sons had lots of dalliances with local servant girls. Their gravestones are in St Peters Church yard. Some of their descendants ended up in Crosby, Liverpool with big connections
Excellent photography Gavin.
Currently in Argentina, but planning a wee trip home soon, to Caithness
Thanks .... home of my forebears
My Grandfather Stewart Sinclair was brought up in the croft shown in the early part of the film..The family had a couple of boats in the harbour known as the Haven. He travelled as a joiner & settled in Meltham (West Yorkshire) raising a family. He visited home with his wife Constance & went out in the boat & caught a Cod. Constance ate the Roe for breakfast & said it was delicious. I was in the area some years ago with my wife & then young daughter it was an amazing experience for us all. The croft now derelict has the aura of the past family history with a piece of old farm machinery left in the field.
A very interesting movie and really well done as well! 👍🏼
Hello mate, great video, lovely part of the country
Nice imagery. Stunning location. It would be cool to see what the castle looked like back in the day...whole.
I am North West England but I have friends ten miles from wick,it looks very nice.
The bus shelter at Royal Bank is no more.
Filmed on days when no people about? I live in Castletown brought up in Thurso, it's quiet now, but like towns everywhere Internet finished off all local shops now charity shops and hairdressers! Yes caithness is remote, and takes a time to travel to cities (inverness 140 miles or so) but there is plenty to do here if you ask around. And not as cold in winter as you think. Because we are coastal escape a lot of ice conditions. Great wildlife too, seals in river middle of town on high tide, otters there too, lots of birdlife also. And light nights in summer!
When I finally found it, climbing over sheep and fences, it was so windy, i literally did not dare cross that 'bridge'. Fantastic little thing. Thank you for the video!
The birthplace of my great-great-great-grandfather Daniel Henderson, my great-great-great-grandfather Francis Henderson and my great-grandfather John Henderson.
Sorry great-great-grandfather was Francis
Lived here for nine years. lovely place, but too far out from anywhere
fascinated by this town but it seems so distant and remote don't know if i'll ever make it up there it's too far
It's 3 and a half hours by bus from Inverness, I've just returned from Thurso.
What is the name of the street in the opening scene 0:09 0:09
Bridge Street
My Grandfather William Anderson was born and raised there.
Thank you for posting, my 5x great grandparents came from Stroma, their surnames were Anderson and Rosie
I'd love to go to Thurso one day. Thanks for the beautiful film.
where about is this
Many thanks i lived between wick and thurso many years ago the most fabulous friendly people you could meet 🍀.
To think I will be skating up that next year.
An ancestor James Bremner was born here
Bremner Henderson was my uncle - he died in 1978. My great--great-grandfather Francis Henderson was married to Margaret Bremner
I am a direct ancestor of Sweyn Asliefson the builder of this castle and would like too thank you for this amazing video!
I lived on Burn Road for nine years I love Scotland. But moved to South America better for the old bones and its not a crime here to be old 🙂
:)
Thank you! Remember my Gran talking about Thurso many years ago. She used to visit when she visited from Toronto. ❤️
My Grandmother, Margaret Taylor was born and raised in Wick. She immigrated to Canada in early 1900’s. My Grandmother, Mother and myself visited Wick and her brothers and families in 1953. I remember a thriving town and enjoyed our summer visit. My Uncle Andrew Taylor owned a butcher shop there and I remember going with him in a lorry (we say van) to deliver meat to the countryside folk. A long time ago but fond memories. Many of our relatives were fishermen. I hope to visit once more when safe to do so. Hoping to find a relative or two! One never knows! Thank you for the video. Hoping for prosperity for Wick. 🤗
I was born in Wick ❤️
My 9th great grandfather David McBeath was born here
Don't your legs work?
Epic!
Beautiful!
I’m Moroccan and I will come there
No. You'll only blow it up.
Out of interest, how did some one from Morocco find Thurso? Hardly no one in the UK has heard of this remote place!.
@@robanks3895 I will visit Tromso
I knew someone from caithness who went on to live in inverness
nice to see the old road from the sky i liked the old road better but i am a caithness loon
Gorgeous , go for it . I saw something similar in USA on the border of Nevada, Bodie , never forgot it xx
Lovely video gavin
Looks very quite. I loved the mist down by the bridge and river - made it look very mysterious! Would love to have seen how the place looked when it was a thriving fishing town.
Thanks for the video. I spent my childhood in Wick (in Australia now) and it was nice to have a trip down memory lane. I had mix emotions. Seeing the boarded up houses and shops was sad but it still has its charms. It feels like the place needs a burst of energy, I never used to feel that way.
Beautiful video, but cheesy music.
Sehr schönes Video, Danke!
What a sad looking lonely place
A squirt of WD-40 and that boat will be back at sea. 😀
Where are the people? Looks like the place is stuck in a bygone era. So sad. My mother was born here many years ago and asked to be buried here after she passed. So sad a place now. Come on Wick!
Thanks Gavin 🙂
You'll have to update now, what a diffrence!
Another crackin video gavin
Damn good video. We used to play in it as bairns
