EPOXY RESIN from TEMU - The GOOD, the BAD and the UGLY
In this weeks video I got some Epoxy Resin from TEMU to give it a try. It worked out to be a similar price to Resin made locally and it was also send by sea frieght so it took about a month to get to me. But how did it perform? You will need to watch the video to find out :-)

    Sometimes to speed up hardening I put a few drops of catalyst in the resin mixture, which causes the reaction to be hot, will it affect the 3d model if I pour over it? Will the 3d model melt?

    • @AndysArtLab
      @AndysArtLab 25 днів тому

      It depends on what type of resin you use. The resign I used here although it gets warm it doesn't get super hot. The 3D model is made from PLA which has a melting point of 180C or 350F.

      @@AndysArtLabI plan to make my model harder & fill the empty parts with resin. Is there any other way than using resin? I'm worried the resin will ruin the model result

    • @AndysArtLab
      @AndysArtLab 21 день тому

      @@ajiwisnu1597 You could print in a stronger plastic like PETG and set the infill to 100%. That would make your model very strong and you wouldnt need to use resin.

      I use a thicker resin these days and wait for the it to warm up with the chemical reaction and this works well for sticking to glass and plastic.

    Which type of resin would be best to put on a clay figureine such as a small teddy bear? Thanks!

    • @AndysArtLab
      @AndysArtLab Місяць тому

      I would go with a fast curing resin if possible or an art resin but once mixed wait for the resin to start warming so its thicker to then quickly brush on. I have done this with a 3d Printed plastic stingray. You can brush it on your clay figurine but gravity will still mean that it runs to the lowest point. An alternative is that you could make a silicone mold of your clay figurine and that way you can make multiple copies in resin using the silicone mold you made. I recommend checking out Robert Tolone's channel that shows you how you can make a silicone mold and then make resin copies. www.youtube.com/@RobertTolone I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

    Beautiful work man. The song almost made me swipe past though. Personally I like hearing voiceovers from the artist on their process and story of the piece. If I’m your target audience, I would recommend changing up the sounds/voice overlays to see what works. If I’m not, all good. I don’t normally comment at all, but I also don’t normally scroll past something this good with only two likes.

    • @AndysArtLab
      @AndysArtLab 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for the comment, I appreciate you taking the time to provide me feedback. There is a link on the video to the full version with my voice over and the process/motivation but I think the link blends in a little so it's not that obvious. Music is a hard one, I picked a popular song being used but music is so personal and everyone has a different taste. I might make another version of this short with a voice over and different music. Thanks again for the feedback I really appreciate it as it helps me grow as a creator.

    Can you use a roundover router bit on the edge? Or would that be too much?

    • @AndysArtLab
      @AndysArtLab 2 місяці тому

      Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes you can use a roundover bit. It will leave a dull strip where the excess epoxy resin has been removed so you will need to do a flood coat over top to get that shinny finish.

    I have tried sanding and using something to cut the edges but, it obviously doesn’t have the same sheen on the surface on the edges now. How do you recommend fixing that? A buffing compound and wheel?

    • @AndysArtLab
      @AndysArtLab 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for the question. The easiest way is to actually do a thin flood coat of resin with the item out of the mould. Do this with it up off a surface eg on paper cups. You will need to cover the bottom with painters tape so you can easily remove any resin drips that may run off the edge. Ideally you want the top of the item you are making to be on the bottom of the mold. That way you can use a deburring tool to remove the sharp edge and it doesn't matter if it's a little dull as no one will see it as it's not visable being the bottom of the item you have created.
