There are a small number of steel panel roofing designs that I would argue are among the best looking roofing material options that are available. When they are compared to other materials in all areas of concern, cost to purchase, cost to install, cost of supporting roof structure, fire resistance, toughness, and longevity, steel panels come out on top of the whole pile. Tile, and slate, are expensive, require stronger roof structures, and are prone to breaking when walked on. Asphalt shingles are cheap, but have a relatively short life, and they burn. Wood shingles and shakes are expensive to buy, but burn, and grow moss. Steel gets dimpled by heavy hail, but that's very rare if they are laid on a full deck.
