Kenmore Community Church, you are blessed to have a faithful teacher in the Word of God, and in Pastor Mark. Praying today for you all. Love in Christ, Andy & Christy Cowan
Pastor Rogers, Thank you for your well-studied sermon! It inspires a few thoughtful comments. Why be content with contents in the tent? What is the purpose of the tent and contents? What is the purpose of the universe, this tent wherein God purposefully acts in this present seventh day, after six days of creation? Why does the universe exist? Consider the second parable of eight, at Matthew 13:24 - 30 and 36 - 43, about good wheat and bad tares bound together at their roots. Goodness is mixed with evil, and not easily separated. There was and is a big problem!! The plan from before creation is that we as agents of God, made in His Image and after His likeness, produce good fruit of wheat heads. The parable reads of the teleology: separated; forever. United goodness is separated to heaven, apart from united evil separated to hell. The source of the plan of action in His tent was not the Fall of humanity. See the big tent at 1Peter 1:19, “But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:” 1Peter 1:20, “Who verily was fore-ordained be-fore the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,”. Before the foundation of the world - creation - the tent? Before Adam and Eve and sin entering the world? Before, God knew that He, as the Christ, would die for sins; for humanity’s wounds in the battle; His act as remedy for our hurts - if we follow His purpose. Why would God plan, beFORE humanity’s sins, to die? There was and is a problem. The creation is ‘very good’, Genesis 1:31, for a Purpose; acted out in the seventh day. It was not perfection. Satan was in the Garden of Eden! He will not be in heaven, forever. God loves His created agents, and does not want to throw them in the trash at battle’s end. Our choices. We can become the new Jerusalem, Revelation 21:2, 9, 10; His dwelling place. We must know contents of the tent! - for contentment in the purpose for which we are made! We are separators, to heaven or hell. Separate goodness. Be a Source of mercy, to obtain His Source of mercy. Separate goodness from evil. Become pure of heart in actions, to understand [see] God in His purpose. Be peace makers, exercising skills of goodness, so people can make their peace with God. If done, you act as His Children, who do the will of the Father - on earth as it is in heaven - in His kingdom. Content makes contentment. We tend to wrongly self-focus in the Garden Fall. The focus is the greater tent - of God. Blessings, Steve Huffey, California
Reverend Mark Rogers, Thank you for your internet sermon about who was Jesus of Matt 21 and Col. 1, given on 3-28-21, and for your gospel context enlightening the original setting, and it compared to present societal beliefs! This note is for appreciation, but I also cannot resist a contextual comment-question about beliefs. Answering who is Jesus reminds me of Paul at Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. The word ‘confess - Gr., homologeo’ is to assent to the ‘same - homo’ ‘word - logeo’. As we choose to confess Jesus, what did Jesus confess - ‘same word’? Why follow Him and be the same? The immediate context of Rom. 10:4 - 10 is Paul’s combined quote and allusion of Deut. 30:11 - 15, wherein the law was claimed to offer life or death, depending on our choices to assent and do works. But translation of Rom 10:6 as “But the righteousness ….” seems biased amid the logic flow. The Gr. ‘de’ for ‘But’ is usually translated ‘And’, ‘Also’, or ‘Moreover’; making agreement with previous words; as a conjunction meant to ‘add to’. But here, use of ‘But’ appears to subordinate the previous to what follows. Why does Paul build faith in this passage, by quoting Moses about faith in Deut 30? Here and in Deut. 30, the law causes life. In comparison, Rom 10:6 also begins with a translated ‘But …’, correctly translated from Gr. ‘alla’ as a conjunction subordinating what is prior. Every Gr. ‘de’ in Romans 10 and beyond continues a ‘sameness in logic flow’, adding to; not subordinating. Every Gr. ‘alla’ subordinates! Context is important. I think we do not understand the righteousness of the law and faith in it, especially the 10 commandments and their use as the basis of the gospel, both in the Old and New T’s. I think the Reformation was incomplete in its reforming us ‘back to doctrine’. It seems that doctrine, in our future, and seemingly lost in darkened ages ruled by an Imperial Church, needs to reach back to who was Jesus; what did He teach; what is the gospel basis in His ‘word-logeo’ and for Paul, too? Romans is considered an ‘elegant’ doctrinal book, but is often misunderstood and misapplied, as exemplified in chp 7 where ministers ask whether Paul was writing as a former self - a pre-follower of Christ, or as a Christian Paul, or applying reasoning to himself as a neutral example. Who is Christ and who are we, ‘in Him’, the ‘second Person’ of the Trinity? Is the ‘law of the Spirit of Life’ found [dative Gr.] ‘in Him’ as an Attitude, Rom 8, not the third Person found ‘in Him’? “Let this mind be in you , which was also in Christ Jesus:”, Phil 2:5. In relation to the ‘spirit’ and ‘Spirit’, Rom 8 has translational biased snafus. Who are we, in the light of Jesus? Confusion of Rom 7 as a summary is a result of not well understanding the structure of Romans 1 - 2 and 3 - 7:6. Blessings, Steve Huffey Monrovia, Ca. Perhaps society’s problem is a firstly a Christian problem of not well understanding the basic gospel.
Thank you, Pastor, for the eye-opening sermon. I've never heard this portion of scripture described in such horrifying detail before. It made me so sad, and yet so grateful at the same time. This was an excellent sermon that you obviously put a lot of time into creating. I'm so thankful to have a pastor who teaches the reality of the cross and what it means. God bless you.
Pastor Mark, Thanks so much for the great sermon from Mark. We always learn something new, and we both love learning more about the disciples and how human they were! It gives us hope for ourselves! Cindy and Rob
Mary Beth, Once again you provided us with uplifting, beautiful worship music. Thank you so very much. We appreciate it more than you can know! Cindy and Rob
You all are so awesome! Thank you for continuing to make beautiful music with which to worship our Lord. I love this song!! Hope you're all doing very well. Can't wait to belt out some songs in church!!
Thank you, Pastor, for the great uplifting and informative sermon! Rob and I both enjoyed it and we learned something new. I love the idea of taking our bad thoughts captive and asking the Holy Spirit to help us come up with something more in tune with how Jesus would speak in a given situation. I'm definitely trying that this week!
