H Nani, Gus, and Nick! I listened to this episode during some commutes earlier and wasn't able to comment, but am largely commenting from memory. I hadn't heard of Think the Maker, but that is a RAD name!! It's so cool how you met Nick. It's also cool how Nick started podcasting!! It's neat that Alex from Star Wars Explained got you on stage, Gus :) I'm happy for you :D. Yeah, while I've had some criticisms of the Star Wars shows and movies, I think some of the furor has been misplaced. Lots of toxicity too. I can relate to what Nick said. There were some good ideas for the Acolyte, but I think the execution could've been better. I agree with Nick that Acolyte lacked the vibe. I definitely see the Star Wars vibe with Skeleton Crew. :) I think Andor is a rare exception. I agree that it doesn't have the vibe, but is definitely more of a grounded darker spy/political thriller, which is quite different than other Star Wars media, but it works out well. The story is so good and I like the characterization (particularly with how we see a lot of morally complex characters) and the social commentary and themes of it. It's so timely. It definitely isn't fantastical like how much of Star Wars is, but I personally prefer a more grounded approach (there is nothing wrong with fantastical stories - I love them myself, but I personally like more grounded stories) so I love Andor. Oh my goodness. I have come to despise Jod. The way he treated the kids was horrible. My predictions were wrong also. So, I can relate, Nani. I do think that Jodemption (awesome term, Gus) is possible though. I think that he might go after the Supervisor. Maybe he would help the kids against the Supervisor. But, ultimately, (and this is something that a friend said) I do think the kids will outsmart and beat Jod. I think Jod will be too arrogant and that will lead to his downfall. I think him being crushed by all the gold would be a great ending for his character and would definitely have parallels to Nemik. It'd be a poetic ending for such a greedy and heinous character. He's so well written though and so well acted. Jude Law has done a fantastic job. But, yeah, maybe he isn't as evil as he seems. I could definitely see him being cruel as a (terrible) way to try to justify his behavior and deal with cognitive dissonance. (I'm cutting this into 2 parts because I've had issues with posting longer comments in the past).

Part 2 It's so cool to be part of a franchise that one loved growing up. This reminds me of how Iman Vellani was a huge Ms. Marvel fan (she dressed up like Ms. Marvel for Halloween one year and this was long before the show Ms. Marvel started). And now, she got to play Ms. Marvel on TV and the movies. Regardless of what one thinks of the Marvels (I liked it myself but I too have criticisms of the film), I think it's so cool to be part of a franchise that you love. So, I think it's neat how Jude Law gets to be part of Star Wars since he loves it :) Nani, Gus, and Nick, a friend suggested that Jod might not even be a padawan and he might have a device (or a fake arm) that allows him to grab metallic objects (the same friend who made the suggestion of him not being a padawan or Order 66 survivor said this). It makes sense to me. What do you think about this? I agree, Sabine is not a Jedi but she can use the Force. So yeah he might be someone who learned but isn't a padawan/Jedi. Yeah, I could see Jod falling into a pit. I'm curious what will happen and, Nani, I can see 33 stopping him. And Nani, I agree with you. I was really concerned about pacing before. Gus, I concur that a lot of the pacing for 8 episode series (and 6 episode series for Marvel) has been bad for Star Wars and Marvel. But, Skeleton Crew has been well paced. I'm really happy with how the show's execution has been and the writing. I too feel really immersed in the show :) I love it. Before I forget, Gus, I remember you made a comment about CGI. I admit that there were some flaws. I wasn't really a fan of the CGI for Brutus. Overall though, I thought the CGI is okay, but you made some good points Gus. I didn't notice the issue with Bo Katan's wig. Nonetheless, I didn't really watch a lot of CLone Wars. Thus, I think I would've noticed it if I did see Clone Wars (I'm far behind on shows. I've seen Rebels, Ahsoka, Mando, Andor, Acolyte, Boba Fett, Obi Wan, etc. but not a lot of Clone Wars). I will try to watch the next episode earlier next week :) (and send questions earlier) :). We could see the kids appear in a different show or movie too :). I just thought of this. This is a huge stretch, but what do you think about an older Omega showing up in Skeleton Crew? I would like to see them in Ahsoka. Ooh, I'd love to see Kh'ymm or Carson Teva show up! :) Yeah, I can see the X-Wings stopping the pirates. Zeb would be awesome! And I agree Carson is the Nick Fury of the Star Wars universe lol :). I'm interested to see how Skeleton Crew ties in to the current stories. :) I wouldn't mind seeing Hondo too but I don't think he'll be there. Awesome episode! Kudos, Nick, Nani, and Gus! Have a nice one!

Hi Nani, Gus, and Catrina! Happy New Year, everybody! :] All the best to Catrina with their novel! :D It sounds great! I agree. I'm glad to see KB get some great character development and to learn more about her :]. It's not my favorite, but it's one of the better shows (Star Wars shows) IMO :). I agree that this was an emotional episode (I too was worried about whether KB would die too and found the episode emotional too). It resonated with me. I agree that it's a good episode. One of the top episodes of the season :). It's my favorite episode thus far. I second that. I am glad KB got to shine and I like the writing of the conflict between KB and Fern. It felt realistic and I empathized a lot with KB. Good point, Nani. Fern hasn't really listened to KB and KB has been more quiet. I can relate to that. I'm more shy and quiet and it's not easy for me to speak up. It was great to see Fern showing vulnerability - it was well acted and powerful. I too thought the scene with Wim and KB was great :). I like the dialogue and I like how supportive Wim was and how he did what he could to help her (it was scary and he could've just run away or froze out of stress, but instead, he effectively thought on his feet and saved her life). He has a good heart and I like how he and KB strengthened their friendship also. I also wonder what secrets Jod has. I'm sure he has many tricks up his sleeve. I do wonder though about what he'll do when the kids confront him. I'm sure that they'll meet and the kids will confront him. I'm guessing we'll see growth. There isn't much time and I'm worried that his story will be rushed. But, I have hope that it will be well paced. I second Catrina- Bryce Dallas Howard did a superb job directing. She absolutely brought the best out of them. I agree, Catrina. I didn't think about this, but you're right that Wim learned much more about how different people live. I think he's learning a lot and his character is having some gradual growth. I too like Fern's character development too. The characterization has been excellent. There has been a lot of solid character development for the characters and I like how we've learned a ton about each character so far :). The writers have done a great job in gradually revealing more about each character and developing their arcs. Yeah, as I said earlier, I'm nervous about the pacing of the last two episodes. Ooh, I too think there will be a lightsaber battle. That would be pretty awesome. I wonder if we'll see the parents get caught while trying to help the kids. I also hope to see the Supervisor called out and confronted for their shady and tyrannical rule. Cool episode! Catrina is a cool guest! Cool review! I hope you (Gus, Nani, and Catrina) all had a nice new year's day and wish you have a wonderful year :) May the Force be with you :D.

Hey Nani, Gus, and Briana! Happy Holidays, everyone! Screen Crush is pretty neat. I've seen some of their videos before. They're awesome :). Like Briana, I'm a big fan of Marvel (movies + comics) :). Andor is a wonderful show to start with. Briana's journey is awesome! That's cool that Ryan is understanding and doesn't expect staff to watch every show and read every book, etc. It's awesome how he has much knowledge of Star Wars :). Also, Briana's shirt is cool! Great points. I like your approach, Gus. You approach it in a constructive way :). I wasn't a big fan of the Acolyte, but I agree that Disney didn't promote it as much and could've done more to boost it. I second Brianna. I also felt there were structural issues, but I too don't get the issues people have with the diversity of the show (and other shows and movies). Yes :) S1E5 is fun. I am enjoying the show thus far :) Like Nani, I like how fun it is. Also, like Nani, I wasn't as excited, but I am enjoying it and am stoked to see more also :). Good point. Gus, I really like how you bring up the social commentary and broader message. It helps me appreciate the show even more. It definitely had Indiana Jones vibes :). I agree, Nani, it is a kid-friendly show altogether, but also is dark in some ways and balances it out well to appeal to everyone. That's tough to pull off. But, the showrunners, cast, and crew are doing a nice job. I agree with Briana. I don't think he wants to kill or injure them. He is selfish, but yeah, he does have a moral code of sorts (in that yes, he will betray the kids, but not kill them or injure them). I agree with Nani - he isn't fully evil or fully good either. I too think he's like a lost boy. I personally think he'll change and do the right thing in the end. But, it will be a gradual change IMO. Good point about the parallels between the kids and their parents. It's spot on. Nani, I too am glad to see the parents doing what they can and not being useless. It absolutely makes the show better. It's refreshing. Yeah, he likely is a jedi, though he may have been a kid during Order 66 - otherwise, as Nani said, he'd be pretty old. Great discussion about the credits. Awesome theories :). Yay!! I appreciate your responses :) I hadn't seen The Iron Giant, but I can see SM-33 realizing free will :) And yeah, I too am worried for the kids since they fell down the trap. lol yeah I agree that it was bound to happen. Yeah, I can also see them being away from each other for an episode :). I like all of your theories :) LOL yes I can see an Avengers moment :) That'd be awesome :). Ooh, I can see the parents finding Jod. The co-worker joke is funny lol :). Good point, Brianna. Yeah, after thinking about it more and hearing your thoughts, it likely is a stretch for the Supervisor to be the SM-33 captain. It's a theory that I saw in a comment somewhere (and I think it's plausible), but I don't think it's the case. LOL I wouldn't like it if Jod was a Palpatine clone. Ooh, I wonder if he was a former inquisitor. That's possible. Fun and awesome episode! Brianna is a cool guest. :) Take care. Have a great new year and Happy Holidays :)!

Hey Gus, Nani, and Jessica! Great points about social media. I've pretty much gone inactive on social media. Jessica's journey with Star Wars is cool. It's so cool that she got to go to a convention this year :). It's cool that she wanted to create a space for people to share why they love Star Wars and how it helps them. I don't think I heard of Tales of the Force, but after hearing Jessica talk about it, I want to listen to it :). Her podcast sounds great and I found what she said resonating. Star Wars and other media can definitely help people through difficult times. I know Star Wars has given me hope and superheroes and other fictional characters have inspired me and have had a huge impact on my life. I think it's cool that she's empathetic :) Jessica makes a great point. Things that are rushed do have issues, and I am not a fan of how there has been this push on creators to rush their shows/movies/etc. Creating is tough. I know I've run into struggles with writing and drawing (and I do both more for fun). The stakes and struggles are so much higher for a Star Wars show, a Marvel movie, etc. I agree. "This has been such a fun little surprise". Jessica is spot on! I'm an adult and I love the show so far :D. The pirate aspect and 80s vibe are great! I agree with Nani. There have been a lot of good surprises! And, I concur. Fern has been vulnerable and that was a moving and great scene. The characterization is solid. I too like how Neel shined in this episode. He was great and it was great to see how kindness has such a great impact (this is so important in our world). I agree with Jessica that it's great that the adults talk with the kids about difficult issues and challenges that our world faces - rather than ignoring it or treating it as nothing. Kids are curious and are smarter than many people think - and these issues affect them also. The show is handling this in a great way - it balances out the light and dark well. You're right, Gus, that there are many horrors that kids are experiencing around the world. And, we are privileged here to not have to live in safety and security. Lol I too was surprised when they believed they were home. Hayna is cool. And yeah, you're right, Gus, her father's thoughts are identical to how people look down on younger generations. You're right too about kindness, Gus and Jessica. One reason why I like Neel and Ahsoka is their kindness :). Kindness is strength and I am not a fan of how those who are kind are usually portrayed as those who are easily tricked. I agree, Nani, they've done a fantastic job with his characterization. We got to see his strength (kindness) here. Yes, Jessica - I concur that it's been great to see how the kids handle various situations. They handle it well. It's realistically written also. It feels genuine. Nice episode! Jessica is a cool guest! Take care. :) Have a wonderful holiday season :)!

Hey Nani, Gus, and Crystal! I wrote a long comment earlier but I think there were issues posting it. Nonetheless, this is a great episode and Crystal is a great guest! Also, congrats again, Nani! Great to see you back! It was great hearing Crystal's expertise and thoughts about makeup in Star Wars. I didn't notice the issues before as I haven't paid as close attention to makeup but it was cool to hear Crystal, Nani, and Gus' thoughts. I love Skeleton Crew! Like Nani, I noticed how Fern and KB were much more skeptical and cautious (rightfully so). Wim and Neel are too trusting. I want to know more about Jod and it intrigues me how he has 3 nicknames. I do think he was genuine when he said he is lost but I want to know his endgame and his backstory with the owl character. KB is awesome! Like Crystal, I am Asian and I like how she and her mom are written. I also like how the kids are written genuinely. I too like how the mysteries are being revealed gradually overall. And the social commentary with At-Attin is spot on. Great podcast episode. Take care 😊

Hey Gus and Ken! How are you? I am sorry to hear that Nani is under the weather. I hope she feels better soon! Please share my best wishes with her. Also, congrats to her for passing the bar! That's wonderful :) Go Nani! You both makes a great point. There was SO MUCH vitriol over the Acolyte and Last Jedi. While I wasn't the biggest fan of them, I felt that a lot of the discourse was incredibly toxic and hateful. I remember some hated the Acolyte even before it came out. It's terrible. Ken makes a great point too about how the hope has dimmed since the election too. I know my hope has and it's been easy to feel jaded. But, Star Wars reminds me to not lose hope. Initially, I was somewhat excited for Skeleton Crew. Like you, Gus, I wasn't super excited at first. But, when I saw the trailer, I became pretty excited :). :) Skeleton Crew has been cool so far! I also love the cinematography! I also appreciate what you both said about the suburb setting. As you both indicated, there are all different kinds of places throughout the world - and thus, that's also the same in the Star Wars universe. There are many different types of places. And, you're right, Gus, a suburban setting would look different and possibly even strange to people in other countries. I've been to a few European cities and the differences between Europe and the U.S. are clear too. I also remember seeing smaller houses in a part of London that I visited and the houses were much closer together - which is way different than houses in a U.S. suburb. Excellent points about the focus on conformity and the parallels to real life. It reminds me of how there is a focus on being productive and how some people have looked down on people with background in the arts and other creative fields overall rather than fields like engineering or medicine. While there is nothing wrong about seeking a career in any of the aforementioned fields, there is too much focus on being 'productive' and a toxic outlook of seeing creative fields as 'not serious', 'not practical', etc. In Skeleton Crew, Wim is scoffed at for his hopes and dreams. The portrayal of parents is also realistic (and I agree they aren't antagonists or evil). They understandably want their kids to be successful and while they likely (I agree with you both) had high hopes and dreams then, it's gone now from them due to the norms and expectations of At-Attin (and reinforced by those in charge there). I too don't think Jod is a Jedi. :) I like the speculation you both shared. :) Good episode. Take care, Gus, Ken, and Nani!

When Gus mentioned them living in a 2D vs 3D world, it really reminded me of wizard of oz. I've already been getting those vibes with the whole thing about the treasure being their home (no further than their own backyard) but the kid dreaming about a better place and then some chaotic event literally throwing them into it, only for it to be more dangerous than they thought (from 2D to 3D, or black and white to color) really feels like some oz vibes.

Acolyte was doomed to fail. They committed the cardinal sin in a cinematic universe. They bought lucas film because it was insanely popular (with males) and then turned around and ignored the fan base and sought different fans. In their tunnel vision attempt to bring in women, they disenfranchised the original fanbase and destroyed their multi billion dollar prize. This was not the next victim of streaming platforms...its the latest victim of ignorance in power

Funny because I’ve been a fan since Empire strikes back came out and not a racist white man, I’m a queer Lakota Woman. @@AuntyKsTarot I stand by my statements. George Lucas himself admits that Star Wars was written for fathers and sons. Hence it attracted a mostly male audience. Disney chose to ignore them and demonize the core fanbase. It has resulted in failure. If I am so wrong and the "true fans" as you claim do not agree with me, then why are all your shows failing? Acolyte had the worst view time on record. Where were all you "true fans"? Why didn't you watch? Truth is, you all did and the numbers show I am right. All of you together amounted to cancellation level viewership. Without the fans I speak for, the actual core fanbase, star wars is dead. Cry all you like, it does not change reality. If you speak for the majority, why couldn't you support the show and make it a success. It does not matter who hates it if you are in the majority and you all support it, it would have succeeded. So go call out racism and sexism and any other ism you like. It's just the sound of kids throwing tantrums.
