I BOUGHT A VOLVO V70 SECOND & THIRD GEN - REVIEW/COMPARISON
Переглядів 163 тис.4 роки тому
In today's video I look at the second & third generation Volvo V70 to see which one is best and provide an in depth review on both cars! These cars have been in my family for years so I do love a V70 (call me an old man) :) Which one do you think is the better model? Comment in the section below! www.southwestautomotives.co.uk Follow us on IG: south_west_automotive_
Is there a Damp Issue in the Driver Side Front Pillar Seems to be a Stain in the Fabric .Noticed before you ended this Video
90k miles? Mate, it’s not even "broken in”. Thats around 500k🤭
I own a 3rd gen V70 (with the 2.0 5 cylinder D3, the engine that replaced the 163hp 2.4) and what a nice machine that is! So nice and quiet, feels good, feels like a quality car even after 428k kms, drives very solid. Not sporty in any way, but a good comfortable cruiser
the 2nd gen has much mor beautiful lines. more feminine design lines.
P80 didn't have a D5 engine in it, it was an inline 5 cylinder diesel, but not a D5.
You should also mention that these cars are the safest cars to drive. Volvo has always been at the forefront regarding safety, especially in crashes.
They will go quicker than that u need to take it up to the point when power drops almost red line then into second which will go about 40 then into third which will get u to 60
What a pointless video. Talk about things which both P2 and P3 are like to own. The top strut mounts failing, suspension components which get chewed through, the maintenance that sould be done. Avoiding the 5 speed automatic.
Have to agree with you there, i expected a like for like comparison hopefully telling of the benefits of the series 3 . did it handle better ,go better , more economical etc. no mention of the bodies improvement , more space etc.
My P2 V70 D5 is now 226000 miles
Considering one as my first car
😄👍🏼great vid. Love these cars.
My dad had a nissan primera T reg at the time I passed. T523 UEW. That car was amazing to drive.
Brilliant video and also very respectful to the Starlet well done. Great work 👏 👍🏻 👌 Starlets are amazing ❤
I have the 2001 V70 and that 3rd generation he's driving is FUGLY! It's fat-looking, looks like a Japanese car without the beautiful classic style of the newer one. I wouldn't want any other car. Also, he talks about lasting about 8 years??? Mine is 23 yrs old and I keep up with maintenance and it drives & runs like a dream. I prefer a heavier car bc it's safer in an accident. More metal.
Got 412,000 miles on my 2010Volvo Xc70 D5
i am in australia, i drive my starlet 1997 version since from 2007, still run alright 4xx,xxxkm still very reliable i put ad09 yokohama when on the track day, with 4efe 1.3L, hahaha
Lot of talking but didn't say anything....
Have a 99 that's the same as your 2.0 except mine has grey bumpers. Had 152,000 kms when purchased in 2018 to 178,000 today. Love everything about it. The WOF mechanics call it The Little Warrior. Kia ora from New Zealand! 🇳🇿
From nz here too! These are epic little cars, always driven Toyota and they just handle being ringpieced and thrashed all day every day and still just need oil changes and tyres, and maybe eventually shocks
I'd say Volvos are more reliable and more sturdy than their German counterparts and the big advantage (for those of us who need it) with the big Volvo estates is the load space in the back.
I have the P3 S80 3.2 and it is bulletproof. 29mpg as well which is amazing!
there use to be a big racing scene for these in jamaca and they would put the 5e engine in and turbo it without putting low comp pistons or any engine mods in, they never open engines there untill they go pop, and they went very quick and beat the usual turbo glanzas all running the usual 240-270 bhp tunned
I was hoping to see more than you just talking about the cars. No shots of the dash, the engine, the boot, etc etc.
My mum is just about to get a 3rd generation V70, and I'm getting the old one (2001) who's done 260.000 miles (petrol engine). It's still running just fine! Great cars.
The car is very light, the acceleration is surprising despite the low power, it reminds me of the Suzuki Swift from the 90s with a 1.3l engine and about 800kg, it was a lot of fun.
I bought a 2008. S60 from the previous owner in Germany. He bought a new S60 in 2019. He said that the old one is better. He was disappointed with the new 4cl. Chinese volvos. After 5 years he still runs strong without a single issue. Amazing quality, equipment, comfort...
Recently bought a P2 V70 D5 2.4D diesel 163 hp with 300 000 km from 2006 with manual gears. So far so good, reliable, economical, comfortable, practicality with a lot of space inside... my 🐕🦺 definitely loves the trunk ! I hope to keep it running for many years to come. I can just take your words "this car is one of the best estate cars ever made"
2 is best
1 is best
Gen 2 = P26 pure Volvo. Gen 3, half is ford parts.
Expected a lot more to be seen and compared in this video. Now we only see you talking behind the wheel.
And the most strange thing is they talk about the manufacture carbon footprint, it would be interesting to know !!!

Why am I watching 11.9 seconds to next year. Fucking why. Put a turbo and 6 speed box on it and do 5 seconds
Because you love it!!!
ENJOYED Every fraction of the video mate !! WooooooooooooooW..... Howz your standing on the Auto Red Rocket 1 though ?
Thanks!! Yes both of them have their own personalities 👌 still drive the auto most days, haven't done anything to the manual yet 🙄
Starlet ep 91..Best car ever made in terms of Reliability trough simplicity..i Bought one three years ago with some 188.000 k.m in very good clean original condition..tons of cheap spares around but probably wont need them ..Starlets are quick vivid engines and easy to maintain.easy to wash also due to sweet smooth curves on body..i think is a cute appearance also..I love it ...i was such an idiot that didthn buy one earlier ..i was a motorcyclist only..such an idioooooooot😂😂 All the best from Greece
Wanted to hear real information about both cars, but Got tired of listening guy’s childhood, ford escort (?!) and turned off
Just to correct you 1st gen was a vw diesel engine, 2nd gen is volvo d5 engine
Top cars, very reliable i remember my dad had one decades back... when did power steering get introduced on these... once again very impressive ❤
Not sure about the UK market but here in Ireland only the 1998 EP91 had power steering as standard it was an optional extra before that.
Not sure when the power steering was introduced, great cars though! Thanks for watching
Nice, but what about the quattro at the front? That is normally only on the C7,5 perforrmance, or have I misunderstood something.
Allright now this is personal and I gotta get into the 10s. Nice one btw!
Some day 🤞
I got 220k miles before my old girl second gen 2006 dropped a valve. I got the valves done and now is my daughter’s first car of which I bought when she was a baby. I have the third gen and I like her gen 2 better!!
I had a 2010 XC70 D5 AWD automatic the comfort was second to none.
my volvo v70 second gen has gone around 290k miles and is running perfectly fine, D5 185 hk 2007
I owned identical cars. What a strange coincidence. First one was manual and second one geartronic. The second one did 385.000 kms from new. I sold it due to some expensive repairs and still got a good price. My Volvo dealer changed hands and they weren’t interested in clients like me. I always paid cash and refused the leasing scam.
Is this a video about you or Volvo? Thumbs down. I dont give a fuck about your dad…
@4:26 Good, solid, reliable cars are never outdated. 😉
i have an ep91 4efe, completely stock, im quite bored of its 75 hp. What mods are good to start off tuning it?
id personally swap to a 4efte and go on from there
go to a 5e. stronger internals, better base platform.
i think i quite enjoy to put 20v engine in it, 4age 20v black top engine 1.6 Litre
Great vid, but when talking about maintenance costs you should also mention engine mounts, suspension issues (for both DRC and air suspension variants), oil strainer issues (for cars before 2017) and more. Many of those cars are with carbon ceramic brakes which cost A LOT more than steelies to replace. Also front rotor size is 390mm, not 330. Even the rears are 356mm :)
Need to google a bit harder, 390mm rotors on the front.
For interior and exterior I rpefer the second generation over the third. Somehow the design is better. These cars "age with beauty". They don't look fancy new but for me they don't look outdated either. The main focus is to feel comfortable. Turning headlights, blindspot warning system, speed limiter and a beutiful engine sound makes them simply amazing. The interior is of good quality and the engine reliable. Sometimes the electronics fail a little. In my case the ABS pump and the steering angle sensor on my S60 (technically nearly the same car). As A German I prefer these cars instead of their German counterparts of the time. Volvo is more reliable and has a better rust protection..
I think that the second generation had the best rust protection ever, with a thicker layer of zink than gen 3. There was a test made by some testing institute in Sweden (for a Swedish car magazine) that showed this.
Beautiful cars these are, Your red 1996 looks to be in sublime condition keep it up !
Thanks! It's not bad at all, rust free shell/body just suffering with the usual lacquer peel! New wheels going on next week though :)
