Instead of feeling ashamed, Sajji smiles upon this action, causing the officer to feel awkward and lower his tone. He then asks Sajji "if he is okay". Such a small thing, but Sajji's smile after the slap indicates that he realizes what he has done, and thus begins his journey for redemption.
