I paused the video. Do you personally think there can be a lush and thriving planet with an island that has been forced into isolation because of a missed deed?
I'll be buying your book.
I do!
Hi Adien, I've been trying to develop a few new characters for my second book and knew to come to your channel. May I use the "Innocent muscle"? I love that idea?
Absolutely!
Didn't realize that your brother was behind Writing Quest! I'm already subscribed to that channel. Now I'm subscribing to yours too! Great advice.
lol. I have a race that are 3 of these put together. Most of my other races have 1 or 2.
Do tell!
Excalibur from Fate Prototype! Awesome!
Nice channel! Quick creator tip: you can link to the full video using the "Related Video" feature in the UA-cam Studio page for this short (or any short). I haven't figured out if this improves views on the short, but I'm pretty sure it improves views on the linked video. Just sharing for the sake of sharing! Pretty sure you're more advanced in your channel than I am
Honestly i dont think that empathey should be included, despite alot of my fav villains being empathetic, my 2 favorites (samuel t owens and Johan Liebert) are withought any empathy and are seen more as monsters, or forces of pure evil, while still somehow being human and sticking the perfect chord that makes you feel unsettles and disturbed by their actions.
Oooh. Honestly I would love to read this as well
would dune come under this?
so to balance out the force we must cleanse disney? hey america!! disney's got oil!!
Great video man; very helpful! I, personally, would’ve provided some popular examples of each era-just a suggestion
Hey my Friend , I have seen your videos which are really awesome and video Thumbnails are so eye-catching. But due to some errors in your Channel and Videos like (SEO and Optimization ) Your videos are not Reaching your Targeted audience and that's why after uploading a lot of videos you are not getting expected Views and Subscribers in your channel . I am a UA-cam SEO Expert and if you want I can help you to solve these problems. As a result I can say that you will be able to see much better results than you currently have in your Channel. Also I have audited your channel and created a report. I want to show you, but how can I contact you?
The fact that i watch you're videos and never ever see one of the 3 (2.5) warhammer universe even known you use some time art from the warhammer universe and those 3 universe have almost all the archetypes and some of them being the best exemple of their archetypes is making me thinking about calling the inquisition...
Great video
This sounds, scientifically speaking like our modern era... but so many don't want to share the gold
Context homie. We have none.
Is it 2024?
You've confused race and cultural archetypes. A race can have different cultures within it. A race can have cultural tendencies but they are not the same thing.
Literally sucks
These remind me with the eu4 ages
Like today dark ages or medieval dark ages? lines are blurry
You left out competency death spiral...
Dark age Feudal Castle Imperial
Was brought on by extreme conservatives view points and Religious authority. *Looks at GOP and trump* yeah that checks out.
Societal breakdown sounds familiar
And rats. People were/are always knee deep in rats.
It doesnt have to be good for both peasants and kings. For example, the reign of Elizabeth 1st is called the golden age, but it was really only good for elizabeth and nobles/gentry, for the peasants, yes there was social reform in the 1601 poor law, but famine and poverty was widespread
Somehow i was expecting a pitch meeting for a second there.
Like Sinbad the animated movie
Exactly!
Color coding might actually be an unspoken tip from this video
So true!
Just what I needed to hear. Side note, impetus and impetuous are distinct words with different meanings.
Yeeeaaah I’ve been getting that note a lot 😂
Nice
Thanks!
You pronounced impetus incorrectly. (IM·puh·tuhs)
Yeah I’ve been getting that note a lot 😅
I appreciate the effort, so I hope my criticism is constructive: I think there should've been more subtlety in the contrast between how the paragraphs were read. It was a bit like you tried too hard to convince people the variation in sentence length would magically make them so radically different to read, when really the reader should almost not be able to pinpoint why one paragraph felt more monotonous. Although, if your intent was to overdramatize it to really drive the point home, then I guess never mind. 😁
Thanks for the criticism Kevin, well put. Thanks for watching!
It takes insanely more effort trying to get every sentence the exact same length than allowing yourself to speak naturally using uneven sentences. It's like advising people to mix their jogging using a combination of short, medium and long strides because walking evenly with exactly the same stride is boring. And that's without even counting the effects of syllables, punctuation, intent and context.
Hmm I see your point and as with all writing it comes down to taste. I think the take away is to not get stuck in a rut. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
This is stupid advice. It is important to understand the effect of both writing styles, but one is not better than the other. Both can be used at the authors discretion.
Good point. You’re right all of it comes down to taste. I hope you enjoyed thanks for watching
@authorquest I did enjoy the video. 👍🏽
Ngl the first paragraph was more pleasing to the ear.
There was a regular rhythm that could be turned into a song or rap verse. The OP either chose a bad example or they don't know what they are talking about
Interesting thought I didn’t consider poetry
You're going places bro
Thanks I appreciate that
Impetuous 😂 nice try though
You win 🏆 You know I must have watched that video half a dozen times before publishing it. I sent it to my wife after it went live and the first thing she said was “it’s imp-e-tus” 😂 well I hope my enthusiasm counts for extra credit
@@authorquest It's okay, bro. Sometimes you smith the words, sometimes the words smith you. It's the circle of life.
No impetus for impetuousness.
This video deserves more than 50 likes and this as the only comment (yet).
Agreed!
Thank you! 😊
Omg it’s Vander I miss him😭
He was a good one
You seem kind and entertaining, subbed, wish you had more!
Thank you so much 😊 I am working on more! Anything in particular you’d like to see?
Species is a scientific concept and does not belong in a fantasy setting, particularly one that does not adhere to the usual biological constraints, however fuzzily bounded, that species implies. If you are going to use it, you would use it only on things of animal intelligence or less. A race is any sapient "species", though race could also include something similar to earlier uses of "race" as in the people of a certain nation or culture. You might have the blue turtle people that live in the mountains, the red turtle people that live in the desert, and these might be designated as different races even though they are physiologically similar and would scientifically be considered the same species. More often though, it will be things we might consider different species in a scientific sense, even if they are all just alternate template humans (e.g. humans, elves, dwarves, goblins), or weirder things like centaurs and ents. Their ability to interbreed is not necessarily confined to scientific notions of species, though they are distinct. Also, this is an external consideration, and I'm actually thinking of this from an RPG point of view rather than a novel world building point of view. Inside a novel, what gets called a race is somewhat up to the cultural and linguistic particulars of the character talking about it. I don't think your story oriented explanation really explained anything, because race is a category level of description and only appears when you need to distinguish different kinds of beings from each other. If all your characters are sentient turtles, knowing their role in the story doesn't categorize them as a race. Also the examples you gave were more science fictiony, which doesn't really help to determine how the concept is used in fantasy.
Well put! So when you are gaming and playing with different magical races, where does that creation start for you? Physical, cultural, or the role that race has in the story?
I remember a conversation where the person pointed out that the term "race" was somewhat recent to games like D&D. I found it weird that they chose that term, since it is specifically used for (and invented by) humans and is sociological. When many of the fantasy "races" are created by gods and have their own history. Species has some issues when we try to apply our evolutionary concepts to things magically created by gods, but it works better than "race". I think the way Brandon Sanderson did it works better. People divided themselves based on the particular history of the setting, using their own terms. In one a culture used the fact that magic users of the past had their eyes glow to create a social system based on eye color. In another, the decedents of the varied people who opposed a tyrant became one people, while those who sided with the emperor became nobility. The history of each world created these extra concepts that are somewhat similar to our social construct of race, although the concept of race doesn't fit since they never invented it. In a setting like D&D where the main "races" are created by gods, I would expect them to use a religious term. Maybe they would use the Celestial word for "children of the gods", "chosen", "sparked", or something along those lines. Since it is canon that they already believe to have been created by gods, it makes sense they would use such a term to make the distinctions.
Good take thanks for sharing 😃
First
I found the tortoise that finished first. or donkey in this case...
@@scauldfire3498😂
Fantasy Races could copulate and sire a family bloodline, but Fantasy Species even if they could pair to produce offspring, the offspring would be infertile.
I so totally agree I hate that they are changing species!
i enjoy your interpretation of it and i do think that there's merit to it, but personally i feel like a slight difference to the real life classification of race and species would be more useful in this situation all that defines a species from another is their inability to mate, while race is purely a cultural thing, and the meaning of race has changed drastically over the past few hundred years i think it does depend on the situation and the type of fantasy, but i think race in fantasy should be used as it is in real life: where the only true difference between races is cultural. for example they can have children with other races, their minds work the same, their bodies work the same, but maybe their stats are a bit different or they look different (like a differing skin color or horns or long ears or whatever) while species should be used when the two are actually genetically distant, they can't have children with other species, their bodies function differently, their minds function differently, and i feel most importantly, they evolved separately to fill different niches of course these are a bit wishy-washy, and in things like dnd the line blurs, but even if it isn't perfect i feel that giving people a better understanding of what race actually means is also a benefit.
I like your point of view! I guess I'm missing where we disagree. Do you like writing, world building, ttrpg or perhaps something else?
@@authorquest i'm into more writing and worldbuilding. my point of disagreement is that i feel that race should be less symbolic and the role they fill in the story and more as a cultural or other difference within a species
tbh some species in real life can reproduce between each other like the tiger and lion or the horse and donkey in all case it is us trying to put thing in a box but the problem is that those thing weren't designed to be put in a box in the first place that's why there is so many exception
Yes, I also see race as an artificial, culturally defined species, like the elves vs humans trope. They are supposed to be different species, but they can interbreed which suggests they are actually two races of one species. They are just so different that they appear more distinct than they really are. Dwarves do not interbreed with humans/elves and are a genuinely separate species.
@@JustBuyTheWaywardsRealms I made my comment before reading yours. I'm not very familiar with biology taxonomy and must be thinking of genus or whatever level stops interbreeding. I still get the same feeling you describe about the boxes being artificially distinct.
sorry but i just don't get it
Hi! Can you be more specific? Maybe I could clarify it for you!
If I may, the modern use of the term "Race" is fairly new, historically the term was more consistent with nationality. Historical documents refer to the "Norman race" or the "Saxon race". It is a cultural group of people. In a world where there's only one sapient species, ethnicity & Race are typically interchangeable, but in a world with many sapient species, species & Race would be interchangeable.
sorry but i just don't get it
race is a subsection of species - dog is a a species and then retrievers, dalmantians are different races. to explain races as archetypes in fantasy, lets compare cats and orcs, LOTR orcs and elder scrolls orcs are the same species and lions and housecats are the same species - in both cases one is always dangerous and the other is friendly.
