    Actually you can get both gathering bonus and output bonus. Just have your gathering officers on at the time your fleet reaches the mine, then switch your officers to the ones giving output bonus. Once your fleet is at the mine changing officers won't change the gather speed, evidenced by the fact that the time to return does not change.

      I think that might be a bug in the game because you will see that the gather speed bonus decreases. I’m guessing the actual time it takes will be longer. Maybe Camel updates the time periodically and not immediately? I guess you can only confirm by setting a stopwatch and testing it lol

      I was able to confirm that you are right. Whatever officer and officer skills you had equipped at the time you sent out the fleet is what gets applied for the duration of the gather. So yeah, if you want to maximize resources you can either switch officers or officer skills, and then switch back.

    I realized that one example I didn't cover in the resource gathering vs resource production section is that sometimes people might choose to use more than one fleet to gather one type of resource at the same time. And some people use resource gathering buffs and/or resource production buffs. For this scenario, the person is usually interested in maximizing one type of resource for an extended time. To compare what is better for you in this scenario, you would have to: 1. take the total sum of the resource gathering rates of all fleets that you are using (including gathering buffs if applicable) 2. compare that to the increase in resource production boost (including resource production buffs if applicable)
