AIRCRAFT MAGNETO SIMPLE SPARK TEST
Once you set your magneto E Gap this simple test shows a strong spark jumping a large gap. You can also test it before to diagnose a hard starting problem which is usually just the E Gap out of adjustment. If the magneto doesn't have a impulse coupling just give it a quick short spin set to the distributor hole. You should get the same strong spark. Most shops just replace perfectly repairable mags.

After lubrication and spring replacements that didn't correct the problem we use this simple 5 minute fix. Will work on Piper PA 28, Beech Musketeer and many other aircraft with flap spring returns. I use .041 stainless safety wire.

These cylinder head to barrel separation failures are Continental overhauled cylinders but it can happen to Lycoming, ECI, Superior or any cylinders. The air you here leaking is from the air hose coupling not the cylinder. You very rarely hear air leaking from barrel to head.
