    I’m brca1 however nobody talks about the highly increased risk of overall mortality linked to early onset menopause! Also significantly increased risk of Alzheimer’s and Dimentia 😢

    First let me say that you have three wonderful, handsome sons. Thank you for putting your story out to the public. Let’s face it-you are speaking about a private healthcare matter, so I commend all four of you for sharing. I am the mom of two grown sons. I have survived stage 3 ovarian cancer. I am BRCA2+. I had prophylactic mastectomy after several breast cancer “scares.” My sons are 36 and 31. I discussed my BRCA2+ dx at length and have encouraged them to test. They don’t want to talk about it. One son is unmarried with no children. The other has a baby son. I sometimes feel like they are not taking the BRCA mutation seriously enough as in “that’s something that happened to mom. It won’t be us.” My mother was the carrier but never got breast or Ovca in her lifetime, but her sister (my maternal aunt) had Ovca. My grandmother had breast cancer. I will feel horrible if I have passed it onto either one of my sons but even more horrible if my grandchildren inherit the mutation. How do I get, at the very least, my married son to test? He told me he’s afraid he will spend all the rest of his days ruminating that he’s doomed to cancer if he has the mutation, so he’s avoiding the whole testing thing. I don’t spend my days that way, although it is at the back of my mind. However, he owes it to his baby son and future children to know if he can possibly pass this thing onto them.

    This is all very important information. I have inquired about screening and I have had the CA19-9 test. The issue is not going through with screening options but having my insurance provider cover the cost. The blood test was identified as experimental and investigational and the payment was denied. I am wondering if there is more help in understanding how to go about getting the insurance company to accept these screening tests.

    This 5 min UA-cam video is worth a good couple of hours of reading & research- the succinct summary of the main findings over time about BRCA1/2 and then Fallopian cells showing early changes just made everything so clear to me. And of course, truly important work. Being a nurse postgraduate oncology student, this video is gold. Ovarian cancer treatments have changed so much. My patients now are starting PARP inhibitors, and it’s great to have that line of therapy now. But hormonal role and genetics were such massive findings, it’s hard to pin one benefit. Thanks to this great organisation and research team from down under near Melbourne.

    Thank you for the information.age 67 having a total hysterectomy. Personally I would not do it except I have uterus cancer so I'm going to do it I have no choice as far as I know not positive about the surgery was not giving a lot of information by the oncologist other than it's going to be laparoscopic extremely worried about recovery. So at this age it would probably be best to recommend that people have all their ducks in a row especially at this age and live alone with heart problems not positive about this at all but your information was great

    This really wasn't helpful at all...... it made me feel more distressed. Like how doctors will dance around a dying patient never really telling patients death is coming. Like talking around it.... like for example if someone asked you the color of you hair and you talked for 30 minutes about everything but the color.... I mean I understand how genetic testing works. But you gave no example of real life examples just basically gave a bunch of facts on how it likely won't effect someone.... what about the ones it does? What statistics do those people have? That would have been useful

      She meant the cancer genes are they are hereditary, and it can be detected at an early age. Before going haywire after progression, it can be treated and healed.

    If a mother, daughter, granddaughter, 2nd cousin to mother, 1st cousin to mother all test for positive for a VUS of a disease they all have severe symptoms of, it would likely be that this variant is causing that gene to malfunction? Basically. if multiple family members (close and distant) all test for the same VUS and are all symptomatic for that specific disease, would this be a sign to reclassify as a positive ?

    I went to my internal medicine doctor and had an MRI and CT scan performed. Four days later, the physician assistant told me that I had a mass in my pancreas and lesions on my liver. Holding back tears, I asked if they could take them out. But she said they couldn’t. The physician assistant mentioned that I should see an oncologist, and that was the first indication that she was talking about cancer. Two weeks later, in June 2019, I was able to see an oncologist near my home outside of Bangor, Maine. Between the two appointments, I did a lot of research on pancreatic cancer. When I got to the oncologist’s office, I was told I had stage IV pancreatic cancer. The doctor recommended a chemotherapy regimen, which I did not believe was appropriate for me, based on my research. I also asked about other treatment options and was told no other options were available. My sister and I sought a second opinion from another hospital, where they told us about herbs from there one of the nurse told us about Dr. Harvey, a herbal doctor so we called him and we discussed about my pancreatic life. So he told us how to get this Natural Propolis lecithin Capsules made from Natural roots and herbs which will did and I went with the instructions consuming the herbs just within one week the unusual growing disappear and I was able to stand straight without bending down and I was so strong then two weeks went for check up behold nothing was there and my local doctor was surprised and asked for Dr. Harvey contact... and I was perfectly healed. All thanks to Dr. Harvey now I know herbs work... Reach him via WhatsApp : +1 475 522 1289 Email:{drharveyphytotherapy07@gmail.com}

    Substantial medical evidence that the lower vitamin D level found in Blacks because of darker skin accounts for the increased breeast (and prostate) cancer incidence.. Also evidence that vitamin d has cancer prevention activity in BrCa carriers and non-BrCa carriers.

    This is a great panel discussion, covering so many issues related to these genes. It is important to know that these genes have many different pathogenic mutations that are possible and 23 and me does not check all of these. It's also key, as emphasized by these experts, that the decisions about actions taken after a finding have to be yours. I'm so glad to see this great information on youtube.
