Join me (JSB), a music-loving actor, as I listen to music old and new, sometimes for the 1st time, sometimes for the 1000th: singer/songwriters, classic rock and prog - and more! Occasionally will also 'self-react' to things I've appeared in for my day job!

Actor's Reaction to Them (Van Morrison) - Here Comes the Night. 60s banger!
Join me (JSB) as I continue my 'Songs of 24'* series with this early classic from the extraordinary career of Van Morrison. This is the band 'Them' and their single 'Here Comes the Night' - a US#24 single!

*WHAT ARE 'SONGS OF 24?'
This is a series loosely celebrating the fact we're (at time of posting) in the year '24' (that's 2024 folks), by listening to and/or revisiting songs with some connection to that number (the specific connection for this entry will be detailed above!).
ABOUT ME AND THE CHANNEL:
Welcome to Acting is Reacting! I'm Joe or JSB (snappier than my full double-barrelled monstrosity of a name!), a New Zealand born and London (UK)
based music-obsessed actor who loves diving into sounds old and new. Join me on a musical journey as I explore and react to a wide range of genres, notably singer/songwriters, classic rock and prog - but much more besides - nothing is off the table! I'll cover artists I've loved since childhood -The Beatles, Billy Joel, Chicago, Gordon Lightfoot, Queen - right up to modern indie rock from Sam Fender, Giant Rooks and The Killers (to name a few), plus stuff from in between - Marillion, Toto, Rush...I could go on all day (and often do!). Whether it’s my first time hearing a song or the thousandth, I aim to share my genuine reactions and insights with you.
But wait, there's more...occasionally, I'll be taking a look at some of the projects I've been involved in as an actor, offering a unique 'self-reaction' to my work in the entertainment industry.
If you share my love for music and enjoy discovering new sounds, or if you're curious about the behind-the-scenes of acting, hit that subscribe button and join the community. Let’s enjoy this musical adventure together!

Reaction to Martin Page - In the House of Stone and Light Album!
Переглядів 587 годин тому
Join me (JSB) as I revisit four random tracks from Martin Page's 1994 debut album - In the House of Stone and Light. With Martin's proven track record as a hit songwriter, guests including Phil Collins and a couple of co-writes with Bernie Taupin (of Elton John fame, obvs), this wasn't your standard 90s debut singer/songwriter effort. It went a bit under the radar at the time, but if you missed...

Actor's reaction to BRAND NEW Nightwish: Perfume of the Timeless!
My copy of this album by Them has "Includes Gloria" sticker on the front as that became the most popular song on the album. Them and Van Morrison went on to greatness. Lulu had the hit " To Sir With Love" in the US from the movie with Sidney Poitier of the same name. A great movie with a great deal of heart.
Rush
Haha, a very concise response Scott...then again, what else needs to be said, right?! :D
Elton was different before he met a desperate John Lennon in the 70s. Lennon was much older than him, he was doing cocaine with Elton and advised him to give up music. He poisoned the soul of a young genius musician. Elton stopped touring in 1977 and robotically repeated Lennon's words: People will clap for you no matter how you play.
Wow, had not heard that before!
Saw them performing this in Manchester back in the '70s fell in love with Annie from that moment on they are incredible
Thanks Graham, I'd dearly love to see her (it's not really 'them' anymore I guess) live but think in this case I was far too slow - glad to have discovered them at last just the same! JSB
This was fun! Do more! Spiral out. Keep going 🌀🌀🌀
More is definitely in the pipeline, thanks Carla!
well, Songs from the West Coast is a great album, but there's no way to compare...almost anything with seventies Elton, it's unmatched. EJ from 1970 to 1976 is unbeatable, no one had the quality and quantity, masterpieces after masterpieces
It was an incredible run of albums, no doubt!
Video for “This train” is very nostalgic.
Sounds interesting, might have to give it a watch - thanks for commenting!
They are crazy catchy arent they
Oh they absolutely are! Listening to the album again now as it happens - thanks for watching! JSB
I love a lot of APP, but that was rough. Rush definitely.
No votes FOR APP so far, but that might be the first one definitely against them...but yep, Rush is the winner, no contest - thanks for watching/commenting! JSB
Yooo!! Soft Launch is my favourite band lol
Oh wow, so I see - got some great footage of them there! Keep spreading the word! :D
@@Act0rJSB I’m seeing them again next week so I’ll have plenty to post!!
"H" pushit schism 3 of my favs
Thanks Malhon, not sure what my next point of call will be, but just might be one of these...! Cheers, JSB
Go Forty Six & 2 from the next LP was their single (or was it Stinkfist?). Anyway , by the Ænima LP, the industry knew these guys weren’t effing around.
Great reaction, would love to see the dive. Sober is one of their most streamlined and straightforward songs musically. If you put Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd in a blender you’d often get a Tool smoothie 😁
Thanks for watching and the smoothie comment is definitely intriguing...will be checking more out from them before long for sure! Cheers, JSB.
Schism is great but, usually the last TOOL song fans go to.
Thanks for watching and I'll bear that in mind...!
Thanks for the review and taking the time to upload. Enjoyed your comments. Good factual content also. Thanks for the continued support. Cheers Al.
Thanks for stopping by Al, really appreciate it! Joe.
That actual album is a brilliant album, every single track on it is incredible, and I've got the actual picture disc copy.
Thanks Norman - I'll have to give it a listen, feels like it's overlooked in general!
Sober probably the heaviest and darkest of the five.
Oh really? I should get on fine with these guys then...!
Agreed… play, but “probably” is doing a lot of heavy lifting as well as “of the five”
@@Act0rJSB Great reaction. Take the song choice advice you get as the Tool Army is well versed in how to recruit. 😂 I suggest doing reading about them. Wiki actually does a good introduction and timeliness for you. It helps.
Great vid dude! Thanks for listening off spotify too! If you listen to their albums in order of release, they will come in droves. Also, it will better your understanding and appreciation of the art of music, regardless of current experiences. Enjoy
Appreciate the feedback - thanks for watching! :D
This bog is deep and easy to get lost in.
Haha, thanks for the warning! Reckon I'll wade in another step or two and see how I go from there! JSB
@@Act0rJSBthat’s a little Easter egg for you…that comment is actually a line from one of their songs!
@@MattKrogmeier ah I see...really glad you didn't include the following line, as I'd like to think I'm not those things...hahaha!
Rush wins it. never heard of the Limelight by Alan Parsons Project and it’s a melancholy reverie of sadness and nostalgia. It’s really nice. The Rush Limelight is an epic rock song for the ages.
Appreciated you watching and giving the APP track a fair hearing - and, of course, I agree with your conclusion! Cheers, JSB.
Obligatory comment telling you to spiral out. You'll know when you know
Haha, as it happens about the first thing I did this morning was google 'tool spiral out meaning'! :D
Subbed for more Tool. Tool will change you for the better if you let them. Listen to every song. They are all important. Spiral out.
Thanks for watching (and subbing) - I'll get around to more before too long! JSB
awesome dude, you should definitely check out more songs. The Grudge is one of their best tracks
Thanks for watching - I'll definitely be checking some more out for sure! JSB
Great vid. Those 5 most played songs are their most commercial ones and though they're awesome, some real gems outside that list. Good for starters though. They don't have a bad song. Am sure you'll really enjoy the journey as you get deeper into them. Cheers, and spiral out 🌀🌀🌀
Thanks, looking forward to digging deeper! JSB
The song Born in the USA has been misunderstood. It’s a protest song about a Vietnam War vet. Bruce Springsteen hated that Republicans appropriated. You haven’t heard his early work, his first and second albums which are my favorites. His first album was Greeings From Asbury Park and his second album The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle and Born To Run which doesn’t have a bad song on it.
Thanks Susan, have actually heard 'The Wild...' a few years back, but certainly need to give Born to Run a full listen at some point! JSB
Sober is one of the more easy songs by them. Check out Lateralus that is based on the fibonaci sequence. Both in lyric phrasing and timesignatures. Ohh and check out Pneuma also.
Thanks for the suggestions, will check those out! JSB
Enjoyed your reaction. This is such a great song. I have the live 1978 performance of this song. Roger is on lead guitar, Steve on bass, Ann on vocals, Howard on rhythm guitar & synth, Nancy on piano and Mike on drums.
Thanks for watching Miguel - not sure if it's the same performance you're referring to but I have a live version as a bonus track on the Dog and Butterfly album which is pretty great too! JSB.
Rush for me
The popular (indeed only so far) choice - thanks for watching Matty!
Great album. Soundtrack to my 30's along with Rush and King's X.
Thanks for watching, sounds like your 30s were pretty great if your music choices are anything to go by!
The original version is miles-high better.
The most decisive answer we've had by far - thanks for watching BlizzardSeeker! JSB
Everyone has their style. Rush is thr fun tune. 😊😊😊😊😮
Thanks for watching Jack!
Did you guys know that in the song looking at you eye In the sky. Copied rush song riff From xanadu , the very beginning is the same riff
I definitely didn't know that Mark, thanks for pointing it out! JSB
Simply unparalleled popular music
Thanks for watching Steve!
I love both bands, but it's RUSH for the win. APP's Limelight is not really a favourite for me, but they did a lot of great music. Both of these bands are at the top of my list of favourite bands among many others.
I do really like APPs Limelight, but yeah, it wouldn't be in (or likely even near) my top 20 of their songs - so not really a fair fight, but still (hopefully) a fun one! JSB
GREAT album!! Just missing The Enemy Within and my day would be complete!! LOVE the bassline on that track! I've embraced the 70's and 80's Rush pretty much equally. Cheers from Canada, eh!
Thanks for watching, I absolutely get the love for 70s Rush as well! JSB
@@Act0rJSB as I totally understand the 'dislike' for Geddy's voice (at times) during this era...my wife is one - she greatly prefers the 80's output, and much of that is due to Geddy's dropped register. Cheers!
Love both Alan Parsons & Rush! Very opposite ends of the spectrum on their takes on Limelight, one is very subdued with a gentle vibe, the other is a compact prog rock tour de force! Honestly, I didn't know it was Gary Brooker (RIP) on vocals here! Rush for me, but I'm Canadian, so there may be a bit of bias there! But seriously - their Limelight is in my top 5 of their tracks! RIP Neil - indeed, it's hard to believe he's gone. Cheers.
Haha, looking at the consensus on here, I think we can ignore any potential Canadian bias...this time at least!
I like both bands. Rush wins.
Agreed on both counts Renee - thanks for watching! JSB
Uhh, well, I'd say it's unanimous. Rush, but I do love The Alan Parson's Project. `Tales of Mystery and Imagination` is a great album by them.
Yep, I'm with you on all points there! JSB
Rush. Not even close...
...is a fair call I'd say! Cheers for watching! JSB
Haha I know, what type of question is that? Rush Limelight is an eternal classic and stadium anthem.
Awww, man! That was so cool!!! Thank you, lovely to see your video and that I made an impression on you! I've only seen this vid so far, but I have subbed and will be looking out for more in the future! Great work Joe, and thanks for the shout out! Jim :)
Thanks for stopping by Jim, greatly appreciate it!! J.
Grande banda progressiva saudo desde Brasil
Rush for the win.
Yep, APP really stood no chance (through no fault of their own, of course!) - cheers for watching! JSB
I think all artists have some strong songs and some weaker (or ghastly) ones. And one man's meat is another man's poison. 🙃
Absolutely, and wouldn't it be dull if we all liked (or disliked) every artist or song to exactly the same degree! JSB
Go back and check out Born in the USA. Its not a patriotic marching song for Trump "USA USA USA!" fans as you might think. Its the complete opposite and a protest song. The lyrics juxtaposed against the background of the music. The chorus ironic. And it rocks.
Thanks Steve, but this one's a lost cause. I've come to appreciate many of Bruce's songs, but that one will forever be anathema to me, ha! JSB
@@Act0rJSB no worries. i tried!
Rush!
I love The Alan Parsons Project (I Robot is one of my top favourite albums of all time; possibly one of my "You can only take 10 Albums with you when kidnapped by Aliens" kinda thing) but I have to give this one to Rush, no doubt. Cheers.
Thanks for watching, and I feel almost exactly the same! JSB
Rush
Really? I was born at 1989 but really know and love ABBA .. they are legend!!!
The tiketing story was interesting.
It was a nightmare at the time...but the gig was great, so every cloud, as they say!!
Rush
Correct! ;-)
