    16:20 you are definitely not alone in this. I think this is a bigger subject than what people make it out to be. Your feeling of "not doing enough" or "need to be even better" is something a lot of people who venture into the art world feel(art or music or any artistic field). And i think i know where it comes from: Having pursued a career in music, and having sacrificed 14 years now (from 16 till now 30) practicing and studying how to practice and how to master my craft, i realised that Artforms like painting or music are different from other "normal" fields like psychology or sociology or archeology... There is no child prodigy in psychology at 2 years old diagnosing people with bipolarity, or a kid sociologist coming up with a bunch of theories before they turn 10 years old. However, in art, there are. And because of this , these gifted people skew the market onto there level, meaning that the level you need to have to enter the free market and make money is so high you cannot even imagine it sometimes. A fair comparison is if you decided to study psychology and during your first year in uni, you realise that the entire class has 10 years of prior experience before they had even got into uni. Thats most of the artistic skills out there. +Even if you have that prior experience in your family or whatnot, your salary will be an average salary , like in an animé studio for example is around 2000 euros to 3000 euros . You need to have god like talent to reach the top tier level to earn even more. And that is why you always feel you are not doing enough , it is NOT only a self deprecating feeling or an illusion (it can somtimes be tho),but it actually has some truth to it; your brain can see the level of talent and skill some people have out there, and the brain cross compares to evaluate where you are in the skill hierarchy and comes back and tells you you are not enough, you need to do more. And these gifted people are not necessarily extreme hard workers, they generally have that level of talent because they started very very early on and/or they are gifted. After all this, when someone asks me "should i follow my dream of making music" , i generally answer with you need 10 years to master your instrument and musical ear and another 5 to make a business out of it , and during all this time you need financial stability. Some people stop midway, some give up the first year, some cannot stop because it is in there blood, but no one can run away from the hours you need to put into mastering the craft. I hope i was not very long with this, but i can relate to the feeling. it is like a tunnel with no clear ending. I love music and have been on this journey for so long i have forgotten even to think there is a finish line , it has stripped me naked sometimes, but thats the mission i have accepted , and we are riding the wave

      Wow, I'm so touched that you took the time to write such a thoughtful comment - thank you! I've never thought of it in this way. It definitely puts things in perspective. I think I'm one of those people who has it in my blood and will never stop working. I think the feelings of not enoughness are also exacerbated by the kind of content that's like "I built a successful art career in 6 months" which is much more trendy and clickabke than the kind that's like " I worked my ass off for 20 years to build something that gives me a moderate salary" haha. But we love it, so we will do it regardless of the outcome. Also, the part about maintaining financial stability all the while is so very real and difficult. Thanks again for sharing 😊

      btw, an artist I follow in the UK, named "@sophysartroom" has an admitted fascination with everything Gilmore Girls. As a recovering musician myself, I think @TheTreePod's observations from pursuing music as both a calling and a profession would make for a very instructive video all its own. I think everybody figures they'll have made their first million by the time they hit x-age, then the value of X keeps incrementing by ten. I also appreciate both the visual and narrative honesty in this video. Aside from the exact level of expected prosperity remaining elusive, it seems like you're succeeding on several levels, with love, family, a thriving business, and clearly also as a pet mom. I hope you continue making amazing art and videos, and that a huge appreciative audience eventually finds you.

    I have three "accounts" in UA-cam and in IG, one each for artist stuff, one each for musician stuff, and one each for "rabbit hole", which is less curated and works like it sounds. I hardly ever go into "rabbit hole", unless I'm looking for something outside of art or music stuff, and when I go in there, I try to stay aware not to stay too long. Works pretty well for me.

    I think there is a little ego involved in all of us who create content but ego isn't what made me start my channel. I make videos to share inspire, connect, and grow as a person. You are right, It is not the numbers, but I like to see them grow. Your art is beautiful. I always choose one of the seven deadly sins to work with every year during lent. Ego will be my next years challenge. Your art is beautiful as is your channel.

I am flooded by dozens of recommendations every day from youtube and we need to choose which people to subscribe to. I am sitting here wondering why should i subscribe to your channel ? What is it i am looking for if you upload again and i get another notificaiton from your channel? another parasocial relationship with a person i dont know ? Another nathaniel drew channel where self help rhetoric is sprayed throughout ....I really am curious abt this. Esepcialy on a plateform where evreyone is pushing their content. I love people who love themselves, and I love myself. When I love myself, it's easiest for me to love others. Also, I love the sound of my own voice, and if yours meets your expectations, I think you should love yours too: it is expressive and fun. The comment "it seems egotistical to share your life..." makes me think that is only one person's simplification of a very complicated reality. Things are so much more complicated than the labels we put on them (such as "egotistical" being bad, or sharing yourself being "egotistical"; who is to say either of these are connected? Maybe sometimes, but not always...). I'd like to include this quote from Hayao Miyazaki regarding self-criticism and how it helps ourselves grow. "Working hard should be a matter of course... it's just something you do. If you don't, nothing worthwhile will come about. Thinking about that, some people can't sleep at night. But that's a matter of course too. At times like that, I know that encouragement from other people, or comfort and consolidation, aren't any help at all. It's all on you. In those moments, can you forgive yourself? Some people can forgive themselves easily, and some people can't. That's a difference that separates the fates of those two types of people. People who can easily forgive themselves don't do very good work." I wish you well internet person!

    I enjoy your uploads and applaud your willingness to share your art, life and your feelings. A few months after I started painting I uploaded a picture of some of my paintings (mainly Banksy copies, I like his art) to Reddit. I received 1300+ comments, about 50/50, some saying it was wrong, that I was thief by copying his art. The other side countered that they were fine since they were unsigned inspired-by paintings. I was so taken aback by the haters that I haven't uploaded and of the 100+ paintings I've done since. Again, I commend your commitment to your art.

    This painting spoke to me on so many levels. You have grown so much as an artist and have been a leading inspiration for me to start my own Artist journey. It’s so nice to see what I would call spiritual art. There is a feeling of “otherness” or connectedness while viewing your paintings. Thanks for being you lovely ☺️

      Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts ❤️ it really means the world. I've been going through a tough time and sometimes being an artist and creating videos feels like shouting into the void. It's nice to know it makes a difference for someone other than myself. I wish you so much beauty in your artist journey. It's full of ups and downs but creativity will always be there as a guide. Painting has always felt spiritual to me, like a way for me to communicate with something much larger than myself. I'm happy you see it 🌼

    I've just watched this and listened to the interview. It's interesting to see how you brought the ocean closer and closer as the painting went on, until the Crone is finally practically sitting in it while nourishing a raging campfire, simultaneously embodying fire and water as elements. Nice details, especially her hair, which reminds me a bit of Andie MacDowell.

      Thank you! It took me a while.. I started the first painting, the Maiden, in December 2022. I finished the archetypes in September 2023. And I just finished the big piece early in January. Painted a few other things in between but definitely want to work on completing things more quickly.. and also just spending more time painting in general.

    Nice process in both videos, and a way more Zen energy throughout than I'm used to seeing in art vlogs. Fascinating and beautifully-executed concept.

    Summer do you agree that if there’s something you love to do and be good at it. It doesn’t matter how much money you make what matters is you’re enjoying it right?

    • @summerthyme
      @summerthyme 6 місяців тому

      Of course. Your passion doesn't have to be what makes you money, just find a way to do what you love against all odds.

    I'm glad your description starts out with "FLORIDA". That answers the main question I had about why you're not surrounded by snow the way we are where I am. I think your channel name is really cool. I think I'm going to start incorporating dance breaks into my process as well, and when my wife looks at me funny, I'll tell her I got the idea from you. :) I like your painting and am intrigued with its theme. Are there videos of the other pieces in the series? I imagine the figure closer to the flowers, like she's been diving from the surface, and can almost touch them, instead of being so far away, but still in that suspended-in-water pose. As far away as you have her, I think she should remain pretty blurry, wavy and indistinct.

      Haha, I'm really happy to be in Florida right now. Hope you're staying cozy wherever you are. Thank you so much for tuning in. I highly recommend dance breaks! There are videos of most of the other paintings in the series. In my previous video, I showed the rest of the series at 6:50 : ua-cam.com/video/y2YCjhHtSRo/v-deo.htmlsi=hbBxU-MH0dpmxCYN The Crone painting process is here: ua-cam.com/video/4HaKn0O1TUQ/v-deo.htmlsi=jgiSNvrNHsqPUkSI I share some of the Mystic here: ua-cam.com/video/jpmj6uD6--o/v-deo.htmlsi=oHuU85oLscoktYbT and here: ua-cam.com/video/DhrtCIE4tFI/v-deo.htmlsi=M7vwcLuZYNd33wiX The Queen: ua-cam.com/video/nwiQzEW0M6M/v-deo.htmlsi=egt60eDHbFePR--A The mother is here: ua-cam.com/video/D6Mf58nb9ZU/v-deo.htmlsi=ilqCijYSZsY3RBTs and here: ua-cam.com/video/GCukhqGCdMk/v-deo.htmlsi=hfunytXofh2glrtG The warrior: ua-cam.com/video/cy7gjkLYh9E/v-deo.htmlsi=wZs2RgSmJxMwQRXp The maiden: ua-cam.com/video/VOfkIEQNAfE/v-deo.htmlsi=VLyuGwmXu0ry95Ho There's other stuff sprinkled into many of the videos, so if you're just interested in seeing the painting process you may have to skip around a bit (: I love your input. I've been toying with the idea of creating more iterations of this piece, so maybe I'll do one where she's close up to the flowers. I appreciate the feedback!

    So amazing how it turns out. And that's true, you sometimes need to avoid letting yourself get in the way of yourself, sometimes you need to make a giant leap even if it's scary. You did great, absolutely enjoyed watching the creative process. I gasped when you drank the water until I realized that wasn't paint water, haha.

    What a magnificent painting Summer. Thought I’d share a poem I’ve written with you call Letters of Love about a woman who loses her husband in Vietnam. What do you think? He had to leave me to fight in this cruel war. He gave me a kiss and his hat to remember him by. He wrote to me every week with words of hope and promises. He sent letters of love talking about our future family together and house. He talked about how he misses my smile and laugh. He then stopped writing and came home in a wooden box. He and I won’t have our future family together and house. He stopped sending me letters of love.
