I installed the same device on my ‘24 GMC Sierra and have been pleased with the results. GM should consider removing DFM all together but glad Range offers a solid solution.
I agree!
Thanks for the video! Has your fuel consumption gone down since the install? So, this device will keep all 8 cylinders running all the time?
You’re welcome. Yes, this keeps all cylinders firing by disabling DFM but it doesn’t disable “0 cylinder mode” whereby fuel delivery shuts off when coasting at low speeds (which I don’t experience very often). I’ve now had the truck for 6K miles-first 3K without and last 3K with the module. Haven’t really noticed any difference in fuel consumption (good or bad), but it could be because I babied the engine during break in period and have been running it much harder the last 3K especially after installing a proper exhaust. So, theoretically if I drove it the same before and after I might get better mileage with the module but can’t say for sure.
your intro blew my ears out LOL
your intro blew my ears out. LOL
I’m waiting for decent weather to install the same product on my ‘24 Denali Ultimate. Also have a pending install for the Borla Atak when it arrives. Can’t wait!
@robbsgarage what exhaust do you have on your ‘24??
@@Thatairlinepilotguy AFE 0FG-I spent a lot of time researching catback exhaust sounds before buying this one and felt it produced the best sound available.
@ great to hear! Exactly what I’m getting ready to put on my ‘24 6.2 trailboss. Installing the range DFM tomorrow when the unit arrives. Your video helped a lot, thanks!
@ I should have made a video about the exhaust mod. Install itself wasn’t so difficult, but removing the stock pipe wasn’t as easy as you’d think. 6.2 may be different, but the 5.3 pipe is very long with several bends that had to snake out the rear. American Truck produced a video that makes it look simple, but it is not. I eventually gave up and cut the pipe out.
@ good to know. A buddy of mine owns a body shop, so we’ll throw it up on the lift and install at his place. Shouldn’t be too hateful for us.

Thank you Robb!!! This worked like a charm! Unfortunately I had the RR towed prior to seeing your video but nevertheless thank you for posting this, cotter pin worked great!!!

lol! so my kid just called me, he was stuck in the middle of the street, he just pulled out of the driveway. well, your video saved me a ton of hassle. I can't thank you enough. I didn't have a cotter pin, but i did manufacture something out of a hardwood flooring staple. I got the car moving again after we pushed it back in the driveway...i also didn't know about the lever under the cupholders, so that was also awesome to learn. thank you!!!! Found someone on amazon that makes these out of aluminum, so that might be a forever solution.
@@davidl7672 fantastic! Glad my bad experience can help so many others.
Range does say coasting foot of the gas does use the collapsible lifters to go into zero cylinder mode, however it’s not Dfm. Dfm also uses the collapsible lifters. Both modes share the same hardware, the collapsible lifters.
@@Everything-k3y here’s what Range told me: “The engine will still enter 0-cylinder mode while coasting at slower speeds. Contrary to what many think, this is not a DFM function. It’s actually the engine shutting off fueling, so the cylinders don’t actually fire. It’s not the DFM system turning on and collapsing lifters to prevent the combustion cycle.”
Correct, that’s exactly what they told me, zero cylinder coasting does not use the Dfm program but it does use the collapsible lifters to keep the valves closed in zero cylinder mode.
O2 sensor socket with a good offset works great for the upper nuts on the motor mounts.
Nice, thanks for the tip!
I was seriously thinking about trading in my GX for this.

Did you hear how good the exhaust sounded at Buttonwillow? Factory exhaust is too quiet, now it roars!
@@robbsgarage I don't remember it... you should have rev-ed it when you drive by
MPVI3 and some credits and this problems solved
When I bought my 2022 RST Z71 5.3, it was when they determined AFM finally had to go. My truck came from the factory without AFM or DFM. I'm happy I don't have any of it. Everyone i know with a 5.3 has had lifter issues or needed a full motor replacement. The failure rate is way higher than GM states publicly.
@@chrism1157 I’m so jealous! You bought at the right time.
The 2021 and 2022 models had a run during the hear of the infamous "chip shortage" where some of the V8s didn't have a functioning AFM or DFM system. So yea...no DFM issues. But not so fast...the DFM would not function because of electronic/tech reasons. But unfortunately those miserable AFM or DFM lifters are still in the engine. So while they don't function as designed, they are still present. Perhaps the lifters not constantly collapsing, reactivating, etc. will help prolong the life of these crummy lifters............................or maybe not. Time will tell but one thing for sure, you folks get a much better quality driving experience and for "free!"
These pricks are killing the V8...This is why I wont buy a new truck..Keep it,it does not save shit and I am paying for 8 cyls and I want them 24/7
Amen brother, these auto manufactures and the EPA are killing the industry. I wouldn’t have bought a new truck if I didn’t need one. Hope to keep this one forever because I can only imagine how much worse it’s going to be 10 years from now. I got this DFM Disabler to help make this motor last as long as possible!
Oh, hell no not doing this to my new Silverado 1500 RST.
why not?
Can you suggest a local coolant for Velar 2019, I-4 ? Is Dex-cool orange compatible with the car ?
One thing I noticed is the oil pressure goes up when you accelerate and decrease when you start breaking. I thought it would stay at a constant rate.
its called RPM. higher rpm - more oil pressure. This happens even with v8's from the 60's era. Normal operation
I wish they would have left it as an OBD plug in.
@@ThePlotts I thought the same at first, but once I installed it I actually prefer this better-only takes 10 minutes and doesn’t clog up the OBD plug area.
why? the OBD port one drains the battery I hear. This newer one does not drain the battery.
Man everytime I get in my f150 since buying new in 2017 I push that stupid auto start button. Curious - is the DFM system still active even with tow/haul mode on?
@@JP-ec8fe nope! This thing disables it at all times including that stupid auto start!

Great video man thanks
You’re welcome, hope it helped!
Excellent video! Pump out first, then remove the drain plug, and show the amount missed by pumping, which would be interesting to know. Less messy. Also, anything that could be done to determine the electronic oil level accuracy would be great. Im sceptical it reads in even 1/2 quart intervals.
Thanks! Planning on making that video with my next oil change. Just finished replacing the motor mounts today so about to publish that video which is promised to be the most comprehensive on the subject.
@@robbsgarage looking forward to that.🙂
5k for one rear quarter panel seems crazy to me You could have bought the entire hgk euro fighter kit for around that.
Yes, it was ridiculous. Wish I could have cut one out from a donor car but body shop said it wouldn’t have maintained structural integrity. I don’t know… but, at least the finished product turned out excellent.
Great video. What is your cargo box lift system. Looks easy to use.
@@williammcneal3471 thank you, hope it helped. It’s a Thule system. Can’t remember the actual model number, but it’s designed for use with most Thule cargo boxes.

Where do you get a cotter pin from?
Any hardware store will sell them. If you’re located in the US, you can buy them individually at Ace or True Value; whereas Lowes and Home Depot will likely make you buy a boxful.

You didn't actually show me how you disconnected the hose 😅to put the o ring on 😑
On my car it just pulled straight out but one of the viewers said there’s a clip that squeezes on his. Will come off fairly easily if the o-ring is broken, should press on very tight with a new o-ring of the proper size. Check out my update video for a better size I subsequently installed.
Thanks! Worked perfectly once I got the cotter pin the right size. I had to shave a little off the 1” pin.

You are amazing. I am having the same issues with my 2016. Gonna see if this fixes my issue as well. Thank you so much.
Did you identify the leak?
Hi Robb. Found your link chasing a coolant leak. Wish mine was as simple as your repair, but it’s the dreaded cross over pipe. Anyhow, you mentioned that you experienced a “noisy tapping” sound. Can you please tell me more about that? Thank you
Good luck with the crossover pipe replacement. I dread the day I have to replace mine. Whereabout in the video did I mention a noisy tapping? Been so long I can’t recall but maybe if you mention the section it will jog my memory.
@@robbsgarage thx for the reply. In the opening you mention you only had 2 issues with your RR. One issue was a tapping or knocking…..
@@firescrap oh, right. I thought you were referring to a tapping sound with this coolant leak. At about 45K miles the engine started to produce a tapping sound. Turns out one of the tappets/lifters wasn’t right. Thankfully it was still under warranty and the stealership replaced not only all lifters on that bank but also the timing chains, tension rails & guides, tensioners, and related gaskets.
