VOLVO 6x6 Camper Build | Part 4 | 2023
First drive on a public road, a trip of 50 Kilometers. To the nearest grain weight. 3240 kilograms with only a little diesel. 3 wheel brakes got hot and had to be adjusted. Never drove over 80 km/h as it makes absolutely insane noise. mufflers were far too small for the new 3 inch intake. It also runs well in all 6 gears. Probably 50% less tire noise from the STT PRO 315/75 R16 :))

VOLVO 6x6 Camper Build | Part 3 | 2020-2022

The plan, is to get it approved this year at a car inspection, with the new mercedes diesel engine and camper box. And a total weight of 4.5 tonnes, and a curb weight of approx. 3.5 tonnes. Then another 2 years passed, and it is somewhat closer to being finished. Unfortunately, I've got a rare muscle disease (muscle stiffness) and it's a bit slow at times, but it's getting done. Tom

Small offroad test after buying it, in 2012. 6x6 didn`t work and the differential locks valve was working badly. Brake noise is quite bad, but all brake parts were changed shortly after.. MB om606.910 diesel engine and fiberglass camperbody are in progress.

    in regards to. turning radius is it possible to either make one of the rear axles either aTag Axle that raises / and /9r add a steerable option to the Axles . I don’t know much about the Laplanders but i did spend many years disassembling many 1960 s through 70s Volvo Wagons for my Dad who hoarded parts for his own personal Volvos and resold to the LocalHot Rodders who loved Volvo Disc Brake sysystems that could be easily adapted to American built Muscle Cars and other Hor Rods prior to Companies like Wilwood being around those old Volvo systems used double Piston Master Cylinders and 4 Wheel Disc Brakes i forget the exact detail but Volvo also used a Proportion Valve or Manifold that in the event of a front Brake failure the Mater Cylinder would still send Fluid to the other brakes on the Vehicle for Safety those Old Volvos also used Bosch FuelInjection that was also the same System that Porsche ,Volkswage,Jaguar ,and Audi used so we pulled that out of those Vehicles for Profit we lived inSouthFlorida and the old B18 motors were used in many Power Boats that used the Volvo Penta Outdrives as welll My Dad and i did this as a small side business as we could pick up a decent running Wagon for under $500.00 and double our money on the parts and ScrapValue of the body and Unibody Platform

    Very nice! We also doing a conversion of our TGB13 to an overlander, so it's very interesting follow your build and se your solutions to problems. You're doing a great job, I'm impressed. Aren't you afraid of overbilding the vehicle as you are building it as a final version from the start? We don't know what we are going to need and not so we try to build a first version and then we going for a tryout before we make any big changes. Do you have some prevous experience of conversions? Do you got any big travelling plans for the vehicle other than Island? Keep up the good work. Cheers!

      Hello. And thank you. It has always been my plan to build an overlanding camper for the long trips through Russia, Africa, Asia and Iceland. Therefore I try to keep it simple and compact, under 6 meters and only 2 meters wide, and a total weight of 4.5 T. Diesel engine that can run without electricity. Have always had a great interest in campers. And hope my camper build can inspire and maybe give some good ideas that I got from other videos 😜

      @@negueba235689 you can choose to use the b30 engine, especially if you get an electronic ignition. Changing to a diesel is a bigger task because you probably need a gearbox with overdrive. and the mercedes motor is 12 volts and the volvo is 24 volts. my gearbox has 6 gears, where 6 is 1:0.81. so it becomes 2400 rpm at 80 km/h.

    • @85nowak
      @85nowak 3 роки тому

      Hey. may sound wild, but there are some benefits to diesel over gasoline engines. the fuel economy is better and a better torque at low revs. a diesel engine also handles water crossings better due to no spark plugs. but after all the cheating with diesel pollution, bad reputation. maybe gasoline engine was not such a bad idea :)))

    • @maxpower9340
      @maxpower9340 3 роки тому

      Although a good conversion. I am sure the Merc engine has more torques and power but an engine with only 11500kms on it is brand new. Well old but not used much. That engine would be good for 250,000 miles. Personally, I would have stripped and rebuilt the engine, because it may have been sitting for years :) But yes diesel has some advantages TBF

      @@85nowak First of all, very nice build *thumbs up* Diesel engine also keep a good engine temp under terrain driving but there is a big cost in both time and money that have to be calculated :( so I keep my B30 for a while longer ;o) Keep up!

    • @caleidoo
      @caleidoo Рік тому

      @@maxpower9340 The Mercedes engine has 210 Nm, the original gas engine had about 206 Nm if it had the Volvo B30A engine. So the difference is small. It's definably not going to be very fast if that non-turbo diesel is going to have to pull a nearly 5ton vehicle with a gear box with ratios from a luxurious E-series.

    Look at the Runva HWX lines of winches, cheap and good quality. If you want 2 speed winch as your power steering pump probably is a bit small for a winch(?) then look at the HWP lines of winches. You can get them both with remote operatet engage - disengage and gear selection by pneumatic switches.

    • @Mr.Engineer.
      @Mr.Engineer. 4 роки тому

      Also, why wouldn't you go for a turbo? A turbo wouldn't mean a lot to reliability as long as you pick one fitted for your engine and intended use. It would give you slightly better fuel economy and a lot more power up those Mountain passes you soon will be finding yourself at 🙂

      hi. in 2012 I bought it for 35,000 kr. (4.700 euros). chose a 180% registration fee, and paid 12,000 kr. (1.500 euros) for tax. Would very much like to have it at 3.5 T total weight. but with camper case, equipment and 4 people, it will not be realistic. kept the car at 4.5 T total weight. The car must have its own type approval number. which an engineer can do before car inspection. cost me 9.000 kr(1.200 euros).. have put in new diesel engine and changed some things. Am a little worried if I will get it approved for car inspection. Is not so much a vintage car anymore :))
