italy vlog | staying at a boutique hotel, michelin restaurant & local festival
First ever staycation for us and also a mini anniversary celebration! Today we will be staying at a cozy boutique hotel in the north Italian region of Veneto, in the charming mountains here. No only has this place been around for over a 100 years but downstairs is also an amazing one star Michelin restaurant Dolada. Of course we had to bring Atlas!

    Hi there 👋. One tip for you beautiful people. After Porto, before you arrive to Lisbon, you should stop for 3 days at Coimbra. It's in the centre, it's smaller, but the old part of town is very beautiful, a river,(Mondego)splitting the city, in top one of the oldest University in the world, beautiful architecture everything you're enjoying there. Other conventual sweets are delicious and full of calories 😊

    Italians are not white. They are latinos.

    • @vernonandmaryana
      @vernonandmaryana 7 днів тому

      Haven’t heard that one but no they’re not Latino. Here’s what google says “No, Italians are not considered Latino. The term “Latino” generally refers to people from Latin America, which includes countries in Central and South America where Romance languages like Spanish, Portuguese, and French are spoken due to their colonial history. It is a cultural and geographical term tied to the Americas. Italians are European, specifically from Italy, and their heritage is rooted in the Roman Empire and Mediterranean culture. While both Italians and Latinos share linguistic and cultural ties through Romance languages (derived from Latin), the term “Latino” does not apply to Europeans. Instead, Italians are typically referred to as part of the broader category of Southern Europeans or Mediterranean people.”

    Great video! Thanks. Wanted to mention for the out-of-towners, Gene & Jude's located at 2720 N River Rd, River Grove, IL (a western suburb of Chicago). If you happen to find yourself on the actual "northwest side of Chicago" the spot to try is Jeff's Red Hots at 3901 N Cicero Ave, Chicago, IL. Jeff's was featured on 'Chicago's Best' TV program hosted by Britney Payton (Walter Payton's daughter) for best chili dog. 😉

    Champagne is a french product... Instead we have "spumante". You can choose "dolce" or "secco" (sweet or dry, respectively). The sweet one is a better match for sweet dishes; for other dishes the dry is better. The "brut" is, among them, the one with less sugar.

    • @vernonandmaryana

    What do you think, living in Italy, of the restrictive rules of the highway code that came into force a few days ago, regarding the blood alcohol levels allowed for drivers?

    • @vernonandmaryana
      @vernonandmaryana 9 днів тому

      I think it started on December 15. Usually the law used to be its problem if you’re above .8 in general. I think now it’s between .5 and .8 It’s going to be interesting to see how it does going forward, because alcohol is a big part of culture here. But I don’t think anybody really drives at those higher levels anyway.

    • @BHBULOP
      @BHBULOP 9 днів тому

      @@vernonandmaryana yes, I live in Friuli too, and the wine culture is very strong. In my opinion, it is right to be careful when driving regarding the blood alcohol level, I do not know how fair the new rules and penalties are. I think that one of the problems is speed, even a sober person if he does not take it into account, will be equally dangerous.

    • @vernonandmaryana

    Be prepared to deal with half ass service as a norm outside of Sofia. Overcooked food, regardless of what you ask for. Meals that get cooked one at a time while tickets build up (these people obviously can't watch YT or Hell's Kitchen). Meals that will be delivered to your table ten to thirty minutes apart. You will get stubborn taxi drivers outside of Sofia. Sometimes they take you where they know, no matter how much you show them Google Maps. Mostly, which is amazing considering the rest of the Balkans, the mentality in Bulgaria is truly as backwards as it gets. Male-dominated workforce will seem lazy and false pride exists everywhere. That said. Great beaches await. The women are exceptionally beautiful. And tourist areas for the most part are miles ahead the villages and typical post-Soviet factory towns. Once you make the mistake of hitting places like Yambol and Sliven, you will see what I mean. Don't make the mistake of getting a Bulgarian GF, because you're going to get stuck with a family full of these idiots more times than not. But the stories are funny as hell. One guy married a Bulgarian. His brother in law moved the guy's furniture out and offered to sell it on the street. Mind you the brother in law doesn't live there, nor has any rights to the house. Then, when the guy was away, he tried to sell the guy's house and pocket the money. The police solved this issue in the end. There's layers to Bulgarian society. When you hit the workforce class, it reminds you of how advanced American society is, versus this foolishness.
