Family videos of our adventures and going-ons.
1st Time Flying Jacob
After a beautiful quick flight with my youngest son, I got ready to take up my older Son, when the marine layer moved in really fast and forced us to remain in the pattern. Since this was my first flight with my oldest son I was disappointed that it was such a short flight. However it was a lot of fun and we enjoyed the view. I hope you will too!

Join us on this exciting adventure from Camarillo, CA (KCMA) to Fresno Yosemite Intl. (KFAT). This video focuses on being inside the cockpit and operating in the airport environment but you'll love the views as we fly over the mountains into the Central Valley. Be sure to stick around for the EXTRA content at the end. This video was taken on my way back from Lodi, Ca (1O3).

Flight to El Monte, CA - Part 1

This is Part 1 of the recent video I shared entitled "Old Spaghetti Factory - Food Run". Part 2 was the nearly complete 50 minute flight home after stopping to get some food at one of our favorite restaurants. This video has been sped up in places so the views can be enjoyed in a shorter amount of time. The sky was very hazy and there was some marine layer to the south and I wasn't sure that I ...
Aerabella Flies - XC to KISA
Переглядів 96Рік тому
My 2nd Cross Country and Aerabella had a chance to fly a little. This time we are flying to Santa Ynez, Ca. Several mistakes were made in this flight but I have tried to glean as much from the experience as to not make those mistakes again. Both my landings, to and from, and my take off from Santa Ynez were less than stellar performances. However, after reviewing the video and listening to the ...

Every wonder what it sounds and looks like being a private pilot? This video is nearly the whole trip from El Monte, Ca to Camarillo, CA with cockpit audio.. We don't have an Old Spaghetti Factory near Camarillo so my son and I make a cross country flight and pick up some lunch for the family. We even make it back before the ice cream completely melts. This is the flight home.
1St Cross Country as a Private Pilot
Переглядів 170Рік тому
Join me as I take my first cross country flight as a private pilot from Camarillo, CA to Santa Maria, CA. Two other firsts for me are flying at 8500 ft MSL and flying over mountains. I had originally planed to record all the cockpit audio but I had technical difficulties and only got the first few minutes. Enjoy!

Touch and go at Santa Paula, California
That was a fun experience! Thanks
Thanks, Santa Paula is on my list of airports to fly into. Just received my PPL in April.
Congratulations! Just be prepared. It is class G and some don't use radios. Also, know the entry patterns and beware that PA is only around 600 ft AGL. Also if you are landing 22 there are a lot of things in front of the TDZ... Take it slow and you'll be fine. Also, I recommend the restaurant!
That looks like fun salute guys
Thank you! I've been enjoying being able to fly around with my family.
At what age did you do your first flight
@@compareyesfilms9660 My first flight training was in 2019 when I was 47. However after only a few hours I had to quit because I moved across the country. I started my training again 2022 and got my PPL in 2023 at the age of 51. So glad I stuck with it and only wished I had done it sooner.
@@GnTWILL ahh that is really cool thanks for responding have a great sunday
this wasn't sped up at all? 1:00 the flaps moved so quickly i almost didn't catch it?
No, the video isn't sped up... it is real time. Thanks for watching!

How much fps u getting?
Hiii there. I know this is an old video. I have a question since I am about to purchase this card. Do you know if this card will be effected if you use the Mac OS accessibility zoom? I want all controls, timeline ect on one monitor and where I can zzom in and out and the program monitor on the other - without being effected if what I am doing on the other montir (using the accessibility zoom) I hope you can answer. Most people say it should be possible tho no one has tryed :-)
I'm jealous of your ability to be able to do cool quadcopter shots. And I love the snow in a small town neighborhood like that. When I watch Groundhogs Day with Bill Murray, I dream of a time when (if I should ever have my own family), to live in a town with seasonal changes (and snow) like that. You're living my dream. :)
i have same card, installed in a hackintosh, the video out is fine via SDi, but cant get Sound out of the SDI, any idea?
Hi Buddy. Thanx for the video! I hope you can do me a quick favor and test if the accessibility-zoom (found in system prefs), effects this black magic output when you zoom in via the accessibility-zoom. I hope the question makes sense or is clear :-)
Wow. So cool! Great job on this. So, I'm assuming this is real time, and the camera exposure was set on manual (one setting) so that it wouldn't compensate for the brightness/darkness of the scene. Anyhow, great idea and thank you for sharing!
do you know if it is possible with media express to diffuse the video in all screen? thanks
I don't think I totally understand your question but let me see if I can explain how this works in my set up. This card allows me to monitor true color playback via HDMI or SDI from certain apps such as FCPX.
OK but xhen You play à vidéo With wmp or vlc it s on the monitor ?
The playout app must support this card. It is not a standard video card. It ONLY works with certain apps not the Operating System.
Awesome flight and footage. Thanks for sharing. DJ SOUL FORCE
Is that your Christmas present? :D Glad you're enjoying it. What use do you think you're going to use it for, other than having fun?
Haha! Yeah, kinda... Thank you! I've only gotten to fly it twice since the weather has been nasty hear in Southern Illinois. My plan is to practice and get good enough with it so that I can do it professionally for the network I work for. Enjoy some sunny SoCal weather for me!
Do you know if the SDI output of this card would be suitable for recording onto an SDI video recorder (eg. DigiBeta)? Any reasons that may not work? Thanks for any advice.
Was that mt Baldy? I saw a bear last week in an area there that looks like this
Yes! This was just south of the ski lodge. In fact the bear ran across the parking lot but was promptly scared off by someone with dogs (maybe a game warden).
i just got that card i just install win 7 pro and i don't seen anything in that HDMI output . what am i missing? it does not work like any other video card? i want to use extended desktop in my windows and one i got that i can use it in my ATEM production studio 4k
+GabakTech - Cursos de Computación Gratis The Decklink Mini Monitor is not a general graphics card. It is for specific output signals of apps like FCP, Premier, DaVinci etc.
GnTWILL ok thank how can i send the output of my PC to the switcher i got?
You must connect your monitor to a video out on your computer. Either a graphics port on the I/O of the mother board or a dedicated graphics card. I have in this computer Dual HD7970s and another computer I have a GTX 650ti. I'm not sure what you mean by switcher.
GnTWILL the switcher i got BLACKMAGIC ATEM production studio 4k, it has one hdmi input but the quality is bad, i talked with B&H and they said i need a scaler
Sorry... I didn't understand your question. I would think the Blackmagic would be the best to help you with that. I do not have any experience with the ATEM... Sorry.
OMG, HTPC with box cooler :-)
So much better than the tracks we had growing up, with the grooves (stems on the bottom of the cars with copper contacts) in the tracks. :) My great-nephews wanted to buy this with his Christmas money, but his mom talked him out of it. haha
Hi GnTWILL. Very interesting video, thanks for posting. I have the same card but I cannot manage to use it to extend your desktop to a 3rd monitor as you do. I am wondering if you could help me with that. Are you using an aditional software to do that? I cannot find this feature in the Desktop Video Utility. Thanks!
+Ivan Cester The Deckling Mini Monitor is for monitoring a signal produced by a pro app such as FCPX, Premier Pro and Media Composer. It is not designed to transfer the OS desktop to a monitor. The one I was using in this video was a GTX 650 ti but I am currently using dual HD7970s. I've also been able to use the HD4000 built into the i7 3770k CPU... I hope that makes sense and helps you out.
Just a warning that unless your video application explicitly allows separate audio and video outputs, the Mini Monitor hijacks both. I typically run sound through the same Focusrite Scarlett that you have, but when the Mini Monitor is plugged in, I have to use the analog outputs from my TV. After writing to customer service, Blackmagic wrote back promptly suggesting I buy a more expensive peripheral of theirs with analog audio outputs, to avoid the leg around the TV, but offered no solutions to use separate audio hardware, citing possible sync issues. And yeah, it won't add a computer monitor. The Mini Monitor does its one function well, but if you already have a way of outputting full screen with HDMI, this thing will introduce more headaches than it relieves.
Hi I have a a decklink duo in my Mac but I can't get a video out put from Final Cut X 10.0 to monitor.
***** Make sure that you have downloaded and installed, from the Blackmagic website, the latest version of Desktop Video Installer. My card was not recognized until I did that. Reboot and you should see a Blackmagic Design in the System Preference. In FCPX you have to set up playback in the "Playback" preference pain also you have to select "A/V Output" in the "Window" drop down menu.
That is where the issue is. I have setup my Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. But can't do same for fcpx. Am not getting the av setup. The play out doesn't feature any blackmagic setup.
***** I'm afraid I won't be too much help. Some ideas would be to make sure you're on a compatible version of FCPX, check Blackmagic's forums for similar problems with fixes, or to contact Blackmagic directly. Also, make sure that your System preference for Blackmagic is the same as the video in your FCPX timeline (i.e. 1080p 60fps video in FCPX then set that output in System preferences.) Make sure you restart FCPX when making changes to the Blackmagic System Preference pain. I also found this on the Blackmagic forums: forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=35009&p=206883&hilit=decklink+mini+monitor+fcpx#p206883
1:31 I do believe in our family vacation to there, we were at the same rock location, as I remember a dead tree like that. :) I'm almost 100% sure that we were at that exact spot. Anyhow, good reminder of a good memory. Nice job going to the level of the children, and even lower (not shooting down on them). Good song! And, omg, your eldest daughter hit a big growth spurt! Sheesh, that was fast! :D haha Anyhow, hope things are well with all.
I love this video! Beautiful farm and chickens!
It would be nice to see how you installed os X
Hi! Thanks for your review! But I have a small question: How did you manage to show the desktop-windows on the third monitor, too? I can only send video-streams to the monitor. In all other cases the monitor stays black.
Hi Kukunamunju, in the video I have two HDMI cables running from the computer to the television and I'm switching between the sources. One source is running from the GTX 650 TI and the other sources running from the BlackMagic mini monitor PCI e-card.
:D 4:04 Reminds me of Karate Kid. Was there anyone scare of that ride? What an awesome view! 4:22 Right at the word "eye", when Gavin say, "..close my eyes", that was a perfect "Kodak"/picture moment for your daughter in pink, when she's looking away into the distance. It was a perfectly natural "pose". :D
Haha!! I had a big smile on my face watching this, because it was the most epic family movie I've ever seen. :D The music too! Too cool. :D Short, sweet, and fun. Nice work. Love it.
Thank you Huyked! Have you ever been here? It truly is a must see.
GnTWILL You're welcome. Thank you for an inspiring, non-typical family movie. :D I have not been there. I looked into it, and it's about 5 1/2 hours away from me. Hmm. Maybe one day. But I do like The Getty Museum and The Getty Villa, both of which are free (minus $15 parking.. but heck you can have as many people in the vehicle, so...). Those places are must-sees, too. Have you been there?
huyked Thank you for the info on Getty Museum. I had no idea about it. It looks like a must see. I'll have to post a video when we go.
Fun. But wow, the visibility was low for a part of the day. Seems more dangerous than I'm used to. :D
Hey Huyked, Most of the day was sunny but some clouds blew in and visibility went to nothing for a few minutes. The wind carried the clouds away and we resumed our fun day. Hope all is well with you and your family.
GnTWILL Thanks. And, oh, too cool that the weather came in and out so quickly; strange, but neat. Take care.
Hi G, I go a problem with my decklink mini monitor, so no matter how I try it just not recognize it, my system is Hackintosh I7 3930K Gigabyte X79-UD4 GTX 770 4GB, is it very restrict about the hardware?
Sorry for taking so long to answer.... It just connects to you PCIe slot. Nothing special.
The card has only two connectors: HDMI and SDI. I really can't speak to CRT and RCA connections sorry.
Hello Sir, I'm interested in the Mini Monitor, but I will be using CRT television for my grading, will the Decklink Mini Monitor works with RCA cable?
I love this video!Thankyou!
Greetings! Are you able to show me how is connected physically? I am looking forward to use a 2 HDMI port for broadcasting purposes...
Julian - Make sure that you have downloaded and installed, from the Blackmagic website, the latest version of Desktop Video Installer. My card was not recognized until I did that. Reboot and you should see a Blackmagic Design in the System Preference and your editing software preferences. I hope this helps.
Hey there. I recentely built a Hackintosh (GA-X79S, i7 3930, GTX 680, osx 10.8.4) and can't get my Decklink Mini Monitor get running. It does not even get recognized by the system. Working fine in win7. As you post, that you were using a hackintosh too, do you have any further information according installation? Did you have to installa any ktex etc.? Unfortunately I can't find much information about using the card in a hackintosh.
The Decklink Mini Monitor is for monitoring a TV signal only via HDMI or SDI. If you want capture capabilities you might consider the New Decklink Mini Recorder or the Intensity Pro (which is capable of both input and output.) If you want to decrease render time then consider a faster GPU for Adobe CS (NVIDEA) or FCPX I'm not sure about the other NL Editors.
Can I check this is sort of a video capture card that allows one to connect a video camera eg: Canon LEGRIA HF R36 to PC? Why didn't you consider Blackmagic Decklink SDI? Can you give me advise pls. I am new to this. I am looking for a card to help speed up the editing and rendering of video using Sony Vegas Pro or Final Cut pro. I want to cut down the time spend in rendering especially.
Nice job and great video!
Nice little build you got there m8.. Which Bluetooth adapter would you recommend to be used to connect accessories like mouse/keyboards etc? And do you know a good webcam that works excellent with mountain Lion 10.8.3?
That is a very nice build Very good work looks like it turned out great. I have been wanting build my own PC for quite some time I just need have the funds to get everything I need. You are awesome I love the music in this video it what I listen to when I workout at the gym. take care man God bless.
There are several great iPhone/iPad apps that I use: Mobile Mouse, XBMC remote, and of course Apple's Remote. My wife is not an app hopper like myself so I bought her (and I end up using a lot) a bluetooth Keyboard/touchpad k400 made by Logitech. The size is just right and works very well.
what do you use to control it remotely from your seat?
This is an excellent question and one that I considered before building this HTPC myself. I did a cost/benefit comparison of both Mac Mini and Hackintosh and the benefits out weighed the costs. Deciding factors where: I could combine Blu-ray player and appleTV with a 3TB internal hdd into one attractive case for less than a Mini+External 3TB Hdd + Blu-ray. I'm using SP\DIF for audio but I can always add HDMI audio if I would like later. Hope this helps!
Thank you for the kind words. So far both of my hackintoshes work without issue and I plan to build a third for my son in the near future. It is my understanding you can not use Netflix in XBMC (but I am relatively new to XBMC). Netflix streams just fine through the web browser.
Don't you think its more practical to buy a new mac mini with i5 processor and HDMI sound output than doing a hackintosh for same expense? Looks like you spent about 500 bucks there which is 100 less than a new Mac mini with better processor and HDMI usability.
