Sweet! I've been looking for effective rust removal. I'll give this a try.
Great!
Vinegar + Salt works well...but it has to be immersed, room temperature-ish (or warmer). I think you gotta watch it because I've heard it will consume the base metal if you let it go too long. I've tried straight white vinegar (varying strengths) and can confirm it works a LOT better when you add salt.
That is amazing, I have been looking for a solution the rust on the frame of a car I am working on. This one is by far the easiest, safest and most effective! 👍
Glad to help!
Ok thanks man
No problem!
General public probably shouldn’t be handling acid and spraying under their car
It is generally considered safe when appropriate protective equipment is worn. Tree cutting and base jumping is actually dangerous, but there is a lot of content about it.
Coming along nicely. Roof always a big step! How are you enjoying project managment? The fun bit of any scale build...
I can't say i'm enjoying it too much because i don't want to be the project manager 😆 but in order to get the job done correctly that's what i have to do
GREAT VIDEO
Thanks!
Great to know this, “Just a Hand!” Gonna put this knowledge to use tomorrow. Many thanks!
You're welcome. I'm glad to help
Its come a long ways since your last video.a roof and close to getting a floor.looking good.
Great process on the building of your dream home. Hopefully you will have the time to post more videos as your build progress. Can i also ask what is the size of your house and lot? My wife and i are currently looking for a lot and just wanted to get a general consciences on lot and house size.
The house is 2750 square feet. The lot is 34000 square feet. I think we might have built the house bigger than we need what is better than building it too small.
@@justahandchannel That's a brilliant sized house! The plot is good too - plenty of room for a workshop/outbuildings/garage. Yesterday I visited an English mate who lives in the same barangay - he is an engineering contractor working in the UK who gets over here every couple of months. They are a young-ish couple and his wife has just had their second child, last week. His wife supervised the building while he was away and she went for a layout very similar to your house, with the emphasis on space for the kids inside the house because the plot size is enough for a big house with no garden or a small house with a garden - she went for the first - so the kids will have plenty of room inside plus she built a large balcony upstairs where the kids will be able to play safely outdoors while they are toddlers. She was fortunate because all her family live in the same barangay and they had no problem getting builders and helping out. Don't want to teach you to suck eggs mate, but have you considered having a well put in and getting a generator? We had a 2 day power outage during the last typhoon, last month, and our diesel generator was worth its weight in gold. The municipal water pressure was a trickle, but with the genny and the well we had no issues.
@tyrotrainer765 How do you know what Barangay we're in? Are you my first youtube stalker? 😆 The property is perfect size for a front and back yard as well as 2 gardens, livestock area and roomto build more if we need. We do have a dug well and a generator. We have been getting power outages almost every day.
@@justahandchannel Wow...just a little over 3000 square meters is a nice size lot. The house size is nice as well. I'm looking to build a 3000 square meter house myself.
@@justahandchannel Hehehehe bloody sorry! Yeah that's big enough.
It's been a while since I've been here, it's looking good. What's your forecasted date for completion?
Complete, I have no idea. We would like to move into the unfinished house by January.
@justahandchannel Good luck, that sounds great. It's really come along! My best regards to you and your family.
Since it's been a year now, any long term negative effects on the plastic panel?
None at all
Coke works as well. Cheaper and safer.
Coke has phosphoric acid in it. That's why it works somewhat. It's not as effective though
What is the ethanol for in the mix?
Well I loved this vid,and after reading alot of comments and answers,I cant wait to try I love it and it makes sense.Great work!!
Thank you very much!
Kinda like "naval jelly" but thinner.
Good video can you put in a link where you get your product
I didn't buy it online. I bought it in person at a farm supply store
Question about epoxy primer. Can you recommend a rattle-can epoxy primer for small home projects after removing rust with your magic rust spray? Primer for steel outdoor tables, chairs, etc
There seems to be only one option available, and I must admit that I have reservations about its effectiveness. It is a can that requires pressing a button at the bottom to activate before painting. It must be used entirely in one session. Epoxy is a two-component mixture that necessitates application with a paint sprayer.
Like a miracle on my rusty, antique wheel barrow! I brushed it on with a paint brush and it started the rust conversion immediately. But instead of waiting overnight, I grew impatient and applied a second (unnecessary) coat. So next day, the metal looked great, black, no rust! But too much phosphoric acid left white residue. May I paint directly over the white "inflorescence" or how should I remove it? Thanks for your video info. 👍
You can paint right over it, yes. Thanks for your support!
@justahandchannel Thanks again! 👍
Good info! I can’t wait to try it. I’m glad you mentioned it won’t harm rubber so I don’t have to be concerned about overspray. Is there a preferred temperature range to apply it in?
I haven't experienced any issues at any temperature
With any chemical reaction, the higher the temperature, the better/faster/more complete the reaction is.
Hey thanks for the tip, it’s like using Coca Cola to clean rust too! Awesome
You're welcome. The active ingredient is the same. That's why it works.
Thanks!Nice Shepard.
Thanks!
Does this burn your skin?
No more than vinegar would. But also like vinegar, it will sting a bit if you get it in a cut
Thank you, I'll get these ingredients for my rusty box trailer.
Great!
The process of dissolving rust and other metals is called chelation. Weak acids (weak in the sense that they’re not strong acids like hydrochloric acid that not all their ions disassociate in water) like phosporic acid, oxalic acid, citric acid and acetic acid AKA vinegar will all react with rust (FE2O3) and other metal oxides like water streaks (calcium deposit) to remove the metal from oxygen and keep the metal ion suspended in solution. However since these are still acids they will still attack the base metal. This also happens when you cook acidic food in metal cookware, part of the metal ends up in your food - this is the reason why cooking on a cast iron pan increases the iron in your food because using it literally chips away at your pan bit by bit. What you can do to minimize attacking the metal through acid action is adding a weak base to the solution like sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) to bring the pH closer to neutral so the solution only attacks the metal oxide. This is actually how Evaporust works.
Thank You!!!
You're welcome!
Would it be possible to use some oxalic acid powder mixed together with the phosphoric acid and the ethyl alcohol solution? Cheers
Stay tuned. I will make a video with this experimentation.
@ Thats terrific, thank you very much!
Thank you

Wow!!!!! Sweet ride brother, yes Sir, very nice & my favorite color. My dream mopar is a 70 GTX. Blessings to you & your beautiful family.....

Have you tried this on stainless steel?
I don't see a reason unless it's rusty

Shopee
I have seen the most impressive concrete work ever in PH. Thank you for the videos!
Is it sarcasm?
@justahandchannel no way ... I wish I had the talent
Excellent information, can't wait to try it! Thank you!
You're welcome!
Good video, thank you! From Oregon
Thanks for watching!
The alcohol does nothing.. any acid eats up iron oxide
I assume you have more information to share to back up your claim. Please enlighten us.
What epoxy do you recommend?
Southern polyurethane is my favorite. It's not cheap. It sprays nice and sands nicely and has a chemical bond as opposed to a mechanical bond. Just make sure you follow the directions precisely
Hi mate, from Antique - I have a couple of Qs. I have completed 2 of my 3 storm drain covers (3rd is being welded this week); the first one has been down about a month, and the second for about 3 weeks. Both were treated as per your recipe before painting. First one is showing a few tiny rust spots, but nothing major. I brushed on (unthinned) cheapo local epoxy primer followed by unthinned cheapo epoxy enamel. Second one has same epoxy primer but spray can acrylic black - it already has quite a bit of rust on some edges and corners. I'm new to the metal painting game but I soon sussed that spraying is probably the way to go and have ordered a cheap cordless spray gun online. Q1. I can't find epoxy reducer anywhere in this area, even in the main city - locals tell me to just use lacquer thinner. Will that fly? Q2. Is enamel the best top coat to use in an outdoor application like this ie wet with regular vehicle traffic over it? Cheers, any ideas gratefully received.
I don't have experience with paints here, so i can't give you a definite answer. What i can tell you is a used to dilute both types of epoxy that i used in canada with regular lacquer reducer. If you have rest showing through then i'm thinking you don't have a good enough coverage. You might have to do an extra coat of epoxy. I hope that answers your questions.
@@justahandchannel Thanks - I'll go for 2 coats of primer and enamel on this one.
Even if you spray it, I would recommend 3 coats of epoxy. The paint isn't as crucial because it's just for color and uv protection.
@@justahandchannel Ah ok..... you mean 3 coats of epoxy primer, and a top coat of my choice?
Yes.
Ive used brake fluid in the past it works 😊 2 remove rust.
Then why do master cylinders rust so fast?
@@justahandchannelbrake fluid attracts moisture, no good for rust prevention
this hack is really good ! keep it up
Thanks!
I live in PH & US also. Nice to see someone else being happy there.. Good video 👍
Thanks. Keep watching. I might be in your neighborhood some day 😃
Maybe move your dog away? I'm pretty sure the mist would hurt your dogs eyes and lungs no? 😮
There was no mist, and the wind was going the opposite way.
@@justahandchannel No rust, but no eyes without eye protection.
Well, i did make sure the nozzle is pointed in the right direction. I don't make that mistake anymore 😅
I thought I posted a comment but I don't see it. Great video(s) by the way. Question, I saw another video of yours when you were in Canada eh! And what % works best? I see 30% to 85% phosphoric acid, different cost. I am reconditioning a trailer that has the angle iron and pretty much every inch is surface rust so this seems to be the best option for this type of job. I've used the Rust-oleum Rust Reformer on the lights before I put the new ones one. Which % would work best?
There is no best percentage. Anything above 40% is fine. I dilute just to save money.
@@justahandchannel OK, I found a jug from Tractor Supply that someone mentioned in the comments. Its the Clover Patch Milkstone Remover with phosphoric acid (75% Solution) for 56.33% and it has surfactants, a dye and water43.67%. I'll give that try...
Yes. That was my suggestion. It should work just fine!
@@justahandchannel Perfect, thank you! I'll try it next spring as we are coming into the winter months in MN so the trailer is going to sit for the winter and I doubt much rust will form by the spring. Thank you!
Thanks for all of the great information.
You're welcome!
Thanks for the tips on creating a rust killer. Great video. Cheaper than buying Corroseal. 👍🏻👍🏻
You’re welcome!
Just a note - glad you poured the acid into water, not the other way around. Always pour acid in water, do it opposite & it may react, foam up & spray out onto your eyes & face. Can't wait to use this formula. Looks better than the products sold for this purpose, and no more plugged nozzles on spray cans !
Thanks for watching!
That’s how I cut pizza, I have muscle and nerve damage in my hands, so scissors are much easier than holding and pushing on a pizza cutter.👍
Right on!
good stuff , only must say coca-cola is toxic .... but funny , i've always told people its partly due to the rust killer in it ..and it does kill rust .
You're right, Pepsi is the superior brand 😆
One mix i like is 100gram of citric acid and 40 grams of sodium carbonate to 1 liter water and one drop of soap. It makes a powerful rust remover but at a PH around 4-5 so harmless to most metals and skin. And for me at least its way cheaper
Please be aware that sodium carbonate requires proper neutralization, and metal etching remains necessary prior to the painting process with this method.
