DOUG WATSON, guitar & vocal - "Let Christmas Bring Music"
My first great drum teacher.
Are you a sax player? Or a guitarist?? Most people can’t do both!!!
Beautiful sax playing!!! And add Ed Bickert’s incomparable comping!!
Your channel is a treasure trove of Ed Bickert material, thank you!!!
I love jazz Music tank you mommy We'rever you are in heaven ❤🎉🎉 😢
I'm not much into Jazz so probably can't fully appreciate the musicianship that went into this but this was a great performance to hear! Thank you!
Ed's playing is, once again, otherworldly. He knew every tune and quoted them effortlessly, as he does here, quoting "I'm Beginning To See The Light".
...very tricky changes over which Mr. Bickert floats (it seems) effortlessly, including (maybe) the most-enigmatic quote ever at the start of his solo: the theme to "The Lone Ranger". As time goes on, any recorded performance of Ed Bickert, because there are relatively few, becomes an invaluable document. Thank you, Mr. Watson, for making it available to us.
Did Doug Watson replace Ted O'reily at that radio station? He was the best jazz announcer I heard.
The ghost of Lester was sitting drinking a brandy at the club- and smiled. ❤
Hi there. What a beautiful comment - thank you!
Deserved. And am sure he was. Music on a feather bed , and a porkpie hat resting beside a candle. Would you feel comfortable sending a file of your recordings with Ed? If not- thank you for this gift.
Lee’s rapport with the audience is interesting. I saw him in Berlin with Harold Danko, just the two of them. 1987. I can’t remember the venue. The best known jazz club is Quasimodo’s. That’s really intimate (I saw Old & New Dreams there; that was special). I think the Lee/Danko was in some sort of hall. They were so remote visually. Fantastic gig, gave rise to the Wild As Springtime album. I spoke to Lee afterwards. Gerry Mulligan is right. Lee was a genius. As a result I’ve struggled to dig other alto players apart from Bird.
The remix with Drake is going to be crazy Edit: And it was recorded in Toronto? Was Drake in attendance?
Thank you Doug for this wonderful interview!
It's a pity the recording is not so well balanced. Guitar too much in front and bass a bit drown in the backgroung;thank you still;
Wonderful
Masterful ❤
Beautifull playing !!!
Thank you Doug! It is great to access examples of Ed Bickert playing. And that is nice tenor playing! Perhaps you also like Hank Mobley? ;-) Very cool to have a trio and no drums by the way.
Loved it!
beautifully done!!
Another GEM from a short lived Venue in 😂T O which I caught a few times even though from OUR OF TOWN 😅
Man, those chords and that tone. And such perfect regard for the melody he’s playing. The alto playing here is beautiful and like Ed’s guitar, so attuned to the melody and mood. Thank you so much for sharing this beauty.
😅 another recording of great music where we all enjoyed George’s Spaghetti House of the ‘60’s - 80’s
thanks for uploading these!!
💕 *PromoSM*
THANK YOU FOR SHARING! You sound amazing on this recording! Ed Bickert -so tasteful!
This rendition ruined by excessive cymbals sounds as if the musicians were playing in the room next door
Ed bickert a much respected guitar player in the style of Jim hall
awesome guys! doug is a LEGEND, he's on fire!
Nice Drummer.
Nice to hear this with the Jazzguitar genius Ed Bicker with all these cords. As Paul Desmond said chorus after chorus. It was endless, and sounds so beautiful and close.
Wonderful composition! And lovely to hear Kevin as always
one of my favorite drummers in the Bill Evans Trio. Thank you for uploading this!
Ed is not “one of the great masters,” he is The Master. Light years ahead of everyone else. For all you guitar players, you should check out his playing on the Sackville recording with Frank Rosolino, Thinking About You. Brilliant comping and great solos.
I can't listen to Frank.
when I first heard him I was on the radio in my car and I thought it was an electric piano that I was hearing
Thanks for uploading this interview. Great playing, great information
Super interview with Mr Jarrett, the master. Musically and personally,Doug talks to a friend rather than the musician. Thanks Doug for posting this delicious conversation.
What a great recording! Is this recording available?
Such a humble guy, but I guess most of the greats were(are). Once you've done more than a little work, I think it's impossible NOT to be humbled by the whole process. Thanks for sharing Doug!😁👍
Needs more splash cymbal
Terrance ! What a great player and person.
❤Thanks for sharing,bro.
Thanks! And thanks for taking the time to write!
Beautiful
Very great !!!
That cymbol!
Ed Bickert was one of the best musicians. I put him on the highest level alongside other now-departed geniuses like Holdswoth and Martino.
Beautiful trio, great sound and phrases. There are many versions of this ballad and many very good ones. But this one is sublime. Thanks for uploading it. Congrats, from Buenos Aires - Argentina.
Need thats album!
So Good! I don't want to stop listening to this-ever!
a man of many talents: saxophone, guitar, piano, vocals !
Hi Fred, thank you for your kind words! 😎
