"Rc tech guy, inventory" The Drive 5 Tom and Jason part 2
There are a lot of people who talk about RC who no longer participate in RC. Does their opinion count? That would be a good video. The Drive episode 47. 🤔
I’m of the opinion if your sponsor is paying for the majority of the whatever they sponsor you for you definitely don’t belong in sportsman. I’ve been through this argument back in the day I was employed by the local hobby shop and got an employee discount and because I worked in the RC department and checked in the stock order I literally had first or second dibs on the best batteries and motors before the the regular customers this was the brushed motor and Matched/Pushed NiCad days (unfair ehh maybe) now I still had to pay for everything my discount was usually cost + 10% but not everything had a 10% or more markup either so there’s times I paid what everyone else paid I was also a broke teenager that kicked back $$$ to my folks whenever possible. Was I a sponsored driver? According to a few sore loser types at some of the different tracks I raced at (all the same guys BTW) felt that way and used to force me to run expert. My supposed sponsorship was only because I worked where I worked, I didn’t get a “sponsorship”because I was a fast driver not to mention some of the supposed sportsman drivers that were complaining had been racing RC longer and were older than me at the time.
Top 3 consecutive laps is a good way to break it up. Then you need to have a PRO class and an Open class. Pro class for the serious pro level drivers they know who they are. And the everyone else. Each main walks away with something for the top 3, A main is a little more special award wise.
If you got a company on your chest, you better be in expert; end of conversation
😂
It's tough to compete as a racer or a brand in today's market. The direct to consumer model (paying, contracted customers) is sometimes the only way any of these brands can survive. If brand "A" wants to get customer "X", they will most likely have to contract them in order to get repeat business. If they do not, customer "A" will get contracted by brand "Y" and never make a transaction with "X". It's a ruthless product of free markets, but it works. If driver "A" is getting paid and full 100% product support from brand "X" they should be removed from the entry level class.
If a driver is getting discounted in any way at all (even 20%) and is representing a company on their shirt at all, they shouldn’t be in sportsman.
@@Soysaucercin a perfect world I agree with the idea that sportsman or comparable classes should be raced by 0% sponsored drivers. It is very hard to enforce when most online retailers offer regular coupons or member rewards often close to equal the support of a lower level sponsored driver.
Sponsorship vs premium (discounted) customer, what's the difference?
True, but it still takes some results and many different races, to get that discount.
where can i get a fan mount sir?
@@IkhsanTeni I'm not sure where he got them. It was long ago.
Patient man. I would hire him.
G3RC!!!
Yes sir
Much love from all of us at Get-a-Grip RC. Glad you made it through the storm. Hopefully you can get everything back on track soon.
Thank you soo much 🙏
Lol i also missed what esc it was. Good vid tho for sure. Came looking for info on the trinity mx10 esc.
Thank you soo much for Tunning in, I really appreciate that 🙏. yea it was the performance rc esc, same one dakotah phenomenon is racing.
Try carpet......
Thanx ;)
This video was helpful, in fact I’d like to learn more about the 3* kick-up changes - what does it change and what situations would you want to change it for? I just finished my kit build and I’m glad you got this video out to share the info. Nothing is more frustrating than getting a brand new car on the track just to break a stupid plastic part on the 3rd lap. Thanks!
Thank you soo much 🙏, that means alot. I will ask Tom tonight and his thoughts on using the plus 3. I'll give you his answer. But I will for sure find out how it effects the xray truck. Are you running on carpet or dirt?
I’m on dirt, indoor sealed clay. I noticed there’s zero setup sheets for the 24 truck on the Xray site, so I’ll start with kit settings for dirt and work my way toward something that works better (if it does) and I’ll post it in a month or two. I’m assuming a lot of the common buggy changes might translate to the truck as well so that’ll be my starting point probably.
+\- 3 degrees of kick up used to tune steering or at least that is what is use it for. more kick up more weight transfer to front off power less kick up less weight transfer. less kick up better on smoother tracks. -Tom Sherman
@@rcvitals Thanks! I’ll be working on some setup sheets soon. Does Tom sell his shock towers or is that only for people on his team?
@HookedUpRacing2024 he sales them you reach him on Facebook Sherman and Sherman racing, or Tom Sherman. People are loving his shock towers.
great videos and channel, your driving is fantastic, it looked awesome throwing up roosts in the corners. it inspired me to start racing, what 4wd buggy/truggy/SC would you recommend? I am a lifelong lover of the hobby, but am 100% new to racing.
@bobbjorkner7140 thank you soo much, I really appreciate that 🙏. You know I try to show what I went through, in setting the car up. I got my esc dialed in but when I done it I forgot to setting my radio adjustment to 100% and then reconnect my esc to my radio. I post a link below on how to do that. I just figured whatever I got stuck on and figured, will hopefully help someone else. But think you soo much, if anything I can do to help. Just ask, and I'll try my best to get you a answer.
Good video, but the sound quality my friend... 😖 😅
@Slatanicmushroom Thank you soo much 🙏. Yea sound quality got to work on, Soo the idea is talk to people while they're driving home or traveling. So I either get their car blutooth and while their driving it's alot of dead spots.
Thanks dude this is my kind of stuff.
@veganbear5212 your welcome, thank you soo much for Tunning in, I really appreciate that 🙏.
Whats the best 2wd chassis in 2024?
@MX-CO it depends on your driving skill level. If you're intermediate privateer. I would go with xray. If you're club racer and alot of people at your track has team associated, go with the b7 or b6.4 I always recommend go new, and get the experience of a kit build. That's just me though. I hope it was kinda helpful. I really appreciate you turning in.
@@rcvitals Pretty much everyone at the local track has a B7, for thar reason I kinda want something different, but not if the B7 is hands down the best.
Great interview! Covered everything I had questions about. Videos like this really help with decision making. Great job!
@joedavilla8304 thank you soo much for Tuning in, means alot. I'm Glade it helped out. Just remember with xray get the rear aluminum ballstud mount. It's a must have part. The plastic one that comes in the kit will do you for a little bit. But I wouldn't trust it too long.
sorry about my audio will try to do better next time. jason as always awesome to talk to ya and keep me company on my DRIVE!!!
Also wish you had pics of his whips, but good vid!
Thank you soo much, means alot. Yea I really didn't think about that. Next time I will for sure.
Carpet truck has plastic rear tower. Just ordered the towers from Sherm. Can’t wait to try it
Thank you soo, I really appreciate that. Yea with the kit being a premium kit. Should have at least came with carbon fiber rear shock towers or at least a rear aluminum rear ballstud mount. That's just my opinion only. Yea he's been shipping those towers out like crazy. He's been getting awesome feedback on them also.
Was the update for the Gen 2 or Gen 3
I think mine is gen 2, I got mine like a year and half ago. But the best way I found to update the esc is through the hobbywing wireless module connects Bluetooth to your phone. The link below is cavs esc settings, and it worked amazing.
One of the fastest guys in our area. Great video Bro 👊
@skybasherrc2372 thank you soo much, means alot. 🙏 I had to re-upload the video. It offended someone.
R.i.p. The Backrooms
I don’t know about you Jason but I like a more locked down car, it’s just more predictable, reliable, consistent for me and how I drive. The fast guys I have been seeing lately at the tracks I go to, they are all slipping and sliding, wheels spinning through the turns and their front wheels are constantly turning left to right keeping them going in the right direction, I can’t do that stuff, it must be the fast way though, there winning. Anyway, I run as much front/rear droop as possible. Droop doesn’t just effect front to rear weight transfer, it also affects how much your car leans in the corners. Something I just did at my last race was I lowered my total ride height 1 mm, and wow; I couldn’t believe how much more side bite I had. It’s because I had more droop when I lowered the ride height and the car was able to lean more in the turns and transfer more weight. I don’t think I would shorten up my droop unless I was to lower my ride height excessively, or maybe if it was a high bite track. Plus the more droop you remove, that’s less jump landing soaking up your car has. On my indoor 1/10 scale 2 and 4 wheel drive cars I have been experimenting with reducing the rear droop only just to get better breaking strength in the cars and it’s definitely been helping with that
@fuzzfreak1967 Same here, I like more of locked down car. It's just to me 8th scale driving seems different from 10th scale driving. It's a learning curve still for me. Next I'm experiment with pistons.
@@rcvitals try some different shock springs if you can or different shock mounting locations too if you don’t have any different springs. Another thing I have done is put stiffer springs on my car and stood the shocks up, it’s amazing the difference I got from doing that. Softer springs or a softer shock location doesn’t always equal more grip, you can actually be too soft already and that’s why you don’t have much grip. Think of it this way, a stiffer spring pushes the tire harder and sooner into the ground than a soft spring, the car has to lean more with a soft spring to achieve the same pressure on the tire versus a harder spring. Same with the shock mounting angle. A more leaned over shock is softer overall and the car needs to lean over more to put pressure into the tire versus a stood up shock which is overall stiffer and puts pressure into the tire quickly. It’s all trial and error really, if you have the time, experiment with this stuff. Remember too, there is a little optimum window with all the adjustments an RC car has, you can always go or be too far in one direction. When I go to a track, I focus on getting my car hooked up the way I like it before I just keep doing laps to learn the layout. Good luck 👍
Ride hight will help alot also.
Ride height and droop made a huge difference.
🔥🔥🔥🤙
Thank you soo much 🙏
Makes me wish I hadn’t sold mine I had a brand new x/e 2.0 but my kids wanted a ps5 so I sold it
Do the kids still play with their ps5?
Yes sir and I do as well lol. I’m saving up for another buggy may go 10th scale more 10th scale tracks in my area
Yeah, like or loath JQ, the invisible speed book is a must-have when it comes to understanding setup. The course is decent as well if you're more of a visual learner.
Yes sir, it cuts that learning curve. I don't go to the track without it. Yea like him or not, the man knows his stuff. Helped me out tremendously. But also I put links in the description below, to get people or dialed in. Stuff that I got stuck on. Like I programed my esc and didn't calibrate my esc and radio together. It's all new to me. Thank you soo much for Tuning in. I really appreciate that 🙏.
Do you know this is the Backrooms.
Good interview
Thank you soo much 🙏.
Is this track open for practice if so what times
Just message g3rc on Facebook let them know you want to come for practice session.
when are they going to make their fuel available to all coast . not just west coast
He's got in some hobby stores here, but you can order it from his website. He's still small, but is getting there for sure.
Practice with shitty or worn tires to improve your ability to control a slippery car.
What I have learned is that when it gets hot, I like a hard compound like a clay ss or sslw in the morning I like to run soft or supersoft. I find when running soft tires when it is really hot the tires stick while your buggy is trying to keep going causing a weird situation. Lol cool video, I bought a set if those same tires and n3ver used them because I put them in some old.rims that I had painted white (they were all scuffed up) and the glue only attached to the paint and they came off in short order. Lol but I think they would do ok for a beginner, or maybe an indoor arena track like PNB, where the dirt is loamy and soft even in the groove. 👍 I ended up going to turn and burn, and it is an awesome track, they made it bigger, and the new layout is so fun!!
@@RcOffroad9513 I need to check that place out. From your video, it looks awesome
Nice video 👍🏻
Hey thank you soo much, means alot. 🙏
The New layout looks fun! Ill be there this saterday for the race 🏁 😎 Hope to see ya there!
Yea it was, just felt good to be out there
Oh man, I am doomed. My Truggy is so old that they don’t make a bruggy body for it. I’ll probably be the only guy out there with a truck body
Yea it looks like that body is the standard now. But on the local club racing level I'm seeing guys still running the truggy body. I'm believer in run what you bring.
Nice
So what you’re saying we build tracks better
I like this guy 👍😁👍
you need to get out here to the west coast to run! Good video, Chris is a stand up Guy.
Yes I do need to get out there for sure. Never been to the west coast.
Great interview 👍
Thank you soo much. Chris is a super cool dude man. He knows his craft. Finally got to meet him.
Great video thank you for sharing.
Thank you soo much for Tuning in. I really appreciate that 🙏. Thank you.
Awesome buggy love reds engines 🤙love the Truggy setup👍
Thank you soo much, he's good dude. He Knows his stuff.
Have you raced on the carpet track at Red Bush yet? Thanks
Yep I did last year, and loved it. To me it was addicting.
Good. Thinking about making the trip from Durham
@@dogman_ yea they should start back racing carpet in November. It's seasonal thing here. They go 8th scale racing in the summer. They shut the carpet off road down for the summer.
@@rcvitals I can work with that. 2 hours each way....that's perfect 👌
Do you have to have a V2 spindle for the front to run the V2 hub?
Yea I do but I haven't tried them yet. I just put them on the car. Have you tried them? If so how did you like them?
@@rcvitals I just ordered the v2 hub and spindles because I'm not sure if the v2 hibs fit the stock spindle. But I should have them this week I'll let you know how I like them
I hear you guys, I have been using the same clay slicks on my cars for a very long time. I don’t have a lot of cash so I use my tires till the inserts are whipped. Right now the 4 wd buggy tires still seem good but my 1/10 Truggy tires, the foams are getting a little weak I would say. I am actually thinking about doing the acetone thing on them and putting new foams in them and gluing them back up again, the tires don’t really seem stretched out; have you guys ever done that?
Or instead of using acetone. Just take a exacto and cut around the bead of the tire. Take the old foam out, and put new foam in. Then superglue around the bead of the tire. I've done that before.
@@rcvitals yea, I have heard of that too actually, maybe I’ll try that 👍

Too bad there's almost no audience, just the racers.
It'll get there soon.
