Hi! I've there too. I holed three inner tubes before I gave up and went to a pro. The one thing he did, that I didn't do and I didn't see you two do was after inserting the inner tube, inflate the tube, remove the valve, then seat the second side of the tire to the rim. This seats the innertube and removes any folds or twists. Works like a charm! Good luck and keep at it!

I am this close to buying my first bike. A RE 2006 Bullet 500. I have gone though a journey in my thinking over the past year. From looking at a Janus, to the RE 350 to the 650, and finnaly the 500. I know a more modern motercycle is more reliable and has all the bells and whistles. But when it come down to it, who owns a motorcycle without a kick start? Character and personality, its what a motorcycle is. I had looked at all the brands and options out there and I just dont understand the appeal to most of it. Yes they are Fun and Fast and Iconic and America and Sporty and This and That. Everything a 500 is Not... but a 500 has... a soul, it has a heart beat, a personality, it can be tempermental or moody. In a way I got interested to owning my first bike when I saw a Janus but I wound up arriving to the same place from where I started,... from why I started.

Hey, nice one. I own a RE Himalayan 411, 6 years old, and I've done all the maintenance myself, including refitting front/back tires and replacing tubes at the side of the road. I know how frustrating it is when things don't go as plan, and, I don't know how and why, but with REs it seems that this happens quite often. Let's say that if you want to become a good mechanic, well, a Royal Enfield is definitely the best bike for that.... Anyway, coming back on the subject: keep in mind that some tires are more challenging than others, I mean some tires are way more challenging to take out and set back in than others, so maybe yours are simply falling in this category. That said I can only suggest you these tricks: check the wheel rim carefully and check for any nipple ends that might damage the tube, in case sand the rim. Check the rim tape, it has to be intact with no scratches, in case replace it. Give a good dose on WD40 to the side of the tube facing the rim, or you can use talco powder, this will help the tube to "bed in" on the rim and avoid tears. That said, it's only a matter of practice.

These old Brit inspired thumpers are good for 4o-45 mph tops... any speeds above that and you risk engine damage. The newer 5I'v00's were redesigned and can handle higher speeds for distance adventures... . I had a 2007 and my dealer was very insistent on this... I've seen 3 in his shop with the top of the piston broke off..... If you keep this in mind you'll enjoy this machine for many happy miles... 😎

I had one of the older 500's... 2007.... like it's British cousin ...one issue after another.... so I got one of the new 500's .... 2011.... world of different..... can cruise all day long at 55 mph with my Cozy sidecar... have done several 1000 mile camping trips.... I noted the tool bag under the headlight... A buddy had one on his 71' Triumph 650... ripping down a county road we hit a set of RR tracks... in a flash he crashed.... we discovered that when he hit the RR tracks... 50-55 mph... the forks bottomed out against the tool bag .. it was pushed up. Jammed at the headlight.... the fender was pushed down and became a crude but effective " brake " against the tire... tossing him to the pavement.... the paint on the fender was blistered from the heat... 😎

Generally, I agree with the idea of just getting a workshop to do this. They do it really fast and it shouldn't cost that much if you take the wheels in already removed from the bike. Great advice about the tape marking the direction of rotation though! One extra thought.... I did this as a kid with a push bike many times myself and on my first motorbike once in my late teens and my Dad (experienced old biker of yesteryear) gave me one bit of advice that I found helpful which was to gently partly inflate the inner tube inside the tyre before you start with the tyre levers as it stops the tube from flopping to the edge where you are levering.... maybe you did this anyway but thought I would mention it as it worked for me.

You're rockin' girl! Try doing this in the middle of nowhere on a 100 degree day on a dusty road. It's all good whether you succeed or not. Don't ever give up. If you do get that Enfield going, you will never let it go!!!

I have "done" 3 tyres. The first one worked perfectly, how deceptive that was. The second one, I ended up with a slow puncture the inner tube at the first attempt but the second try was OK. The third time, I ripped the inner tube, then tried to refit the old inner tube which was too fragile to take the strain (it was old) and acquired a very small leak, finally I took it to a professional who fitted it in no time for £10. Next time, I'll go straight to him.

Tire has to be low and go in below the rim. Then up on the other side of the bead. Can't pull the tire over, when it's already seated on the rim!

I have a 1954 Royal Enfield Bullet 350 which is the ancestor of this bike. She has been sitting alone for some time ,watching this has inspired me to go kick her over. The smoke on start is often due to oil collecting in the bottom of the crankcase when standing a while. "Wet Sumping" it is called and on mine I drain the sump first as she smokes way worse than yours. She does normally start though ,kickstart and magneto , dirt simple and reliable. Lights are crap though.

What Aaron is kicking in this video is the kick starter, not the gear shifter. That should only turn over the engine. However we think that the position of the bike on the lift or the strap in the way of the shifter may have put it in gear when he tried kick starting.
