Sell the lot and give relief to your taxpayers from local government incompetence!
Latin language for official business..Roman leftover..a gift..
Are they Valarian steel ?
she has a bugger in her nose.
Ave Lucy and Colin!
Amazing finds. Congrats!
Councillor Hodgkinson needs to visit the local library and take out a dictionary.
This "account" is confusing as it makes it sound like the encounter at the lone teepee was part of the battle when this was long before the command split up and where Custer gave Reno his orders to attack. I get the sense there was a translation problem and an embellishment by the 19th century transcriber who wrote something more than was said. He was with Reno by the account and retreated but got stuck in the crop of trees, still looking to grab whatever booty while looking to make it up to Reno's defensive position. The details like multiple messages issued to the scouts for President Grant is BS. Sorry, this whole thing is some white guy's romatic interpretation of a confusing native scout account.
I think you might have meant to post that comment on a different video.
The Roman's 😮 strength through fear 😱 😂❤.
Strength through improving the lives of the natives, I think. 😁
She needs to get rid of the sugar bugger in her noise
Shit find, nothing to get excited about, unless they can be restored, history is full of junk, that doesnt make it anymore special. Get real and stop trying to justify academia.
Ok Boomer.
Amazing. 👍
OK... so the "find" proves something... but why would you bother displaying two rusty pieces of deteriorated metal? of what visual value and worth is there... why would I even pay more than $25 dollars U.S. to show a piece of rust?.. Now find an intact clean sward, even if it's dull and tarnished and I'd pay $500,000 if I had it... that would be work owning and showing...
Such an American comment
You won't find many swards 😂😂
At what age does an archeologist give up the punk rock look?
When they realise being woke isn't cool, attention seeking academic.
@@harryzero1566 define ‘woke’, bet you can’t.
Um - I hesitate to nit-pick, but here goes anyway! If a thing is "unique" it means it's the only one of its kind - thus it cannot be "two of only four" of anything, as these two gorgeous and exciting swords are described here. I know language has to evolve, but sloppiness in language goes against the true purpose of language: to communicate accurately.
the find is unique, not the actual swords. like, a hoard of coins might be found.....the find is unique, but it encompasses a bunch of coins. i dunno.... maybe ?!
Right on point, language is getting really sloppy, half the time you have to know demographic groups to assimilate what aome people are saying. BTW, gorgeous and exciting swords? If I passed them by visiting a provincial museum it's because I didn't find them so.
Yes, I had the same thought. "Very unusual" would've covered it!
I suggest the guy citing “What have the Romans ever done for us” should now think about the Latin basis of the “uni” in the word unique! Now Centurion Cleese should make him write it out 100 times in red paint!
Excavations in future will bring people to discover that Britons were once a white race 😢
The Roman military wouldn't have hidden two swords, but those swords had definitely fallen into the hands of someone who did want to hide them. Perhaps part of an Anti-Roman rebellion?
Pure speculation
@@dwh5512 Of course it is. Why do you think an army would go to the effort of hiding two swords? Couldn't they have put them in a wagon? Why would the tribes want to hide two swords? Amy theories?
@SilverSquirrel I suppose they could have opposed the ruling elites and their one world government & after having killed two Roman soldiers and buried in the event they needed weapons in an overthrow attempt at some time in the future. Ha! You're right. Wild unsubstantiated speculation is fun. Have a great day sir.
@@SilverSquirrel I think you miss the point about how decrepit they are. No one "hid two swords" and we just found them. There were likely many more in the same area that are now nothing but ferric dust.
@@cartoonraccoon2078 Battlefields were extensively looted for weapons and armor. At Teutoburg forest most the metal archaeologists can find is just the hobnails from their caligae. There is no way two very expensive swords would be missed; they had to have been hidden and if they were hidden by a Roman legion there would have been hundreds, not two. In two thousand years archaeologists will probably dig up a couple of assault rifles, but they won't think that it was the American army that hid them or that they were somehow just left on a battlefield.
You have something hanging out of your nose. Do you really think that is attractive?
Flytipping
No gladius's?
Not for a cavalryman! Ya need a little more reach...
Wouldn't cavalry swords be curved?
Not till the C18 in the west
1:01 Surely someone could have wiped the booger out of her nose before going on air.
Clean your nose lady.
VERY COOL HAIL CESARE
Roman historian on What have the Romans did for us - “they have given us two swords” Me: To kill and subjugate us with their swords Roman historian: Yes but the swords
What did the Romans do for us ? Reace, stability, roads, baths . . . in short, civilisation.
@@lawrencejames8011 Romans were not first to introduce Roads and baths. They have been around since Uruk & Indus valley civilisations. The Romans just made extensive use of them. I doubt the subjected peoples of the times would view the Romans as civilised or with any positivity given the fact that throughout the history of Roman empire, it had to countlessly suppress uprising
Very cool!! A great " find " !!😊
They weren't buried in the North of the Cotswolds. The Cotswolds didn't exist when those swords were buried.
So .. the suspense is killing me fill us in on the details
@@donaldfeger91 What do you mean?
You obviously know what is meant. It’s Karen’s like you that give Karen’s a bad name.
@@nedthemumbler9942 How does that make me a Karen?! I may be being pedantic. That does happen. It's part of being Autistic, unfortunately. But pedantry does not a Karen make. I think you've just learned that term and are a bit over eager to use it as an insult. Save it for a proper Karen. It'll make sense then, and people will laugh with you instead of at you.
What is in that pink haired old lady's nose ? Asking for my stinky old hippie uncle he's single. Nice sword , I guess .
no details on their metallurgical compositions?
Rustbuckets
Miss Pink Hair needs to pick that booger out of her nose before going on camera!
I find it it an impressive discovery regarding the spatha and one still has the scabbard !! Has it resisted so long because of it's high quality?
Holy Crap! That's one scary looking "woman".
Only to a whytemon, we coloured love us some them whyte women.... where they be at?
The new replica celebrates the HARE- itage! 😂 Love this. What a fascinating mosaic, miraculously preserved. Thank you so much for presenting an incredible piece of Roman art history.
God help us now we have these lunatics in charge. Can somebody please tell them that there is no climate emergency. That electric cars are not green, nor are wind, turbines, or solar panels will be bearing them in the ground for our future generations to discover. As far as I can see being green to the core as they put it is going to mean restrictions for you and I. Taxing us will not save the planet because it doesn’t need saving the climate has been changing for billions of years. CO2 is not a bad gas it is only 0.04% of our atmosphere and it’s not doing anything to hurt the Earth in fact it green the Earth. The sooner these people could be taken out of Cotswold district Council, the better.
Leave the people who fixed the wall that YOU have been ignoring alone.
Public land, public property. Stop bullying the elderly
And yet you complain when some people fix a wall for free....
someone fixed your damned wall which would take you thousands of funds and months/years to do. then you tell them off? get off your high horse
I heard this district is pretty protective over their stones. That must mean they have sturdy walls.
Nice wall. Be a shame if someone fixed it
Great find, congrats guys!
*rushes to find my colourful spandex.
Great that these finds have a secure context - oh wait, they don't do they....? But hey, everyone knows archaeologists are party poopers
