I was unable to listen to this broadcast when it originally aired (and I was quite upset about that). So glad to hear this all these years later: it was a hell of a performance.

Sometimes a song can break your heart. When she sings "ne znahsni" at the end I felt the same way about her, I didn't want the video to end. This is my favorite version by far. I thought Frederica von Stade did a really good job but this is superlative. The whole thing is a voice lesson too. Learned so much just from listening. Don't even have to see the performance. Thank you so much for uploading.

The Saturday night subscription performance of this run was the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen at the Met. We wouldn’t stop hollering and clapping. They finally dropped the fire curtain, their way of saying all right, go home. Unforgettable.

This is hardly the final word in Traviata, but it's still wonderful to see Beňačková. I don't know the date of this gala, but she still has beauty in her voice. So does Margita, even if he leaves out all the turns, and they both forget the words! But still great fun!

Benackova is simply ravishing here. No one comes anywhere near her in this brilliant opera.
