I was a heavy hard hitter in my playing days, the last time I played in a band at a live show was 1978 🥁 I just started playing again at 65 years old when my wife forced me to buy drums for exercise after my colon cancer surgery. One of the reasons that I don’t hit so hard anymore is I’m playing in a basement by myself. Plus we had a cat and the drumming used to scare the cat. . So I adapted and learned how to play with this light touch and it help my dynamics I don’t break drumsticks or drum skins ha ha ha I’ve actually had people make comments that I’m not hitting loud enough, what I try and do is balance the volume of my drumming against the volume of the drummer on the original record . ​@The-Tired-Drummer Learning the dynamics of volume has been a challenge for myself also. My wife hates the boom, boom, so I try to practice when she's working. I retired at 61 by the grace of God and needed to use my hands with old man syndrome setting in. Started lessons last December 2023 and my drum teacher is a heavy hitter female, and I am fortunate each lesson to try and piece together what I watch gifted individual 's like yourself make so easy, and it is not. 1 30 minute lesson a week only allows for so much progress. Amazed at the covers you are treating us to. Love the choices. Rock steady but easy on that backside area😢. ( our cat hates the drums also)

Thanks Greg, I don’t even think that I’ve played this song 🎵 before ? I have played others by Tom Petty 😊 I’ve seen them live twice around 12 -13 ? Years ago in Toronto and they are a favorite band of mine, I use to know every members name. Well it’s definitely good music for a drummer 🥁 As far as the splash choking thing goes, Rob Bender just bought a splash cymbal yesterday and I wanted to show him a technique as done in this example.😊

Just have fun 😊 speaking about hands 🙌 working, I have two big problems, I have a huge brain 🧠 tumour and am on this horrible medication 💊 that slows my brain down a fraction of a second ⏰ That’s a bigger obstacle than you could imagine for a drummer 🥁 There are times that I just can’t communicate with my snare beat hand 🖐️ and for some reason it doesn’t want to hit the snare. Then my memory just sucks and I forget where I am or when to stop 🛑 or start And every thing else that goes wrong, like dropping a stick , hitting a rim or missing a cymbal. I’m pretty fussy and it can take me an hour to get the recording where I’m satisfied. Well it’s a hobby, it keeps me busy 🤷🏻‍♂️👍

Thanks 😊 I have done a few Tom Petty videos and I haven’t tried Free Falling yet. I’m sure I’ve played it just for myself, I’m not sure why I haven’t done a video ? This is my first attempt of this song 🎵 I’m a huge fan and had seen them live a couple times late in his career in Toronto, they always sold out big venues here. I’m really pissed at him because I collect Blu Ray dvd 📀 concerts and they haven’t released anything for so many years. By the way have you heard anything about Bryan ? He’s not responding to my texts and the last time we spoke he was very sad 😞

@@dwstoeckel4740 , Thanks 😊 I was a very big Petty fan and like his simplicity of his songs, I like his band members as well, nice guys with character. I saw him live twice in Toronto about 14 years ago once with Steve Winwood , opening and the next time with CSN . Tom Petty concerts had such an amazing sound live at this point in time, it was listening to a cd 💿 I have a couple DVDs 📀 and a Blu Ray concert 🎵 but I’m really pissed 😤 he never released anything else coming from the two concerts we saw. This was still when he was alive, and to this day nothing has come out. I collect Blu Ray concerts and I wish bands would put out more concerts. Guys like Eric Clapton and Joe Bonamassa do have lots available that I own. I have Government Mule, Joanne Taylor Shaw , Tedeschi -Trucks But then again they only have one concert video out each . Disappointing, I see so much live content on utube videos, but I would want the physical release. I was very pleased with my Buddy Guy video I did the other day, good mix and I played well, but every time I look at how many views it’s was getting it was disappointing 😞 it was hovering around 60 for the longest time. Now it’s finally picked up, and is somewhere around 130, and that’s satisfying. Where my Tom Petty took off much faster and I expect a decent amount of views in the end. I have a very fickle viewership, I can play a shit song that’s a hit and play great music and they won’t watch 😕 I’m very tired and we went to visit friends yesterday, and our closest friends are an hour and a half each way. So I didn’t expect to make a video yesterday, I came down to play at 9:00 🕘 pm and picked out a few songs and just couldn’t get any thing working, so when I tried this Tom Petty song 🎵 I was ready. This sounds good but again horrible noise and hiss is back, so I can’t play anything with quiet sections. Ps. I just looked at your email again and found all the information that my wife needs, for the t shirt. We have a busy week, but will start the ball rolling.

@@dwstoeckel4740 , Good Morning my good friend 🤗 Let me tell you about that Break at the 3 minute mark. 🤬🤬🤬 This was a nightmare 😱. Because of my Brain 🧠 tumor medication 💊 it slows my head down a fraction of a second to prevent seizures. There are a ton of songs that I just can’t play if they have certain breaks, because I can’t get the timing right. I had to play this song 🎵 countless times over and over … and after playing it, every time I got to this spot, I just screwed it up 🤬🤬🤬. This went on for an hour and every time I couldn’t nail it down. Finally I got a perfect 👍 take 🎬🎞️🎥. 🤗 So I get up off the drums, start shuttling everything off, like my lights, and battery 🪫 candles 🕯️ Sit down and put the SD card into the computer 🖥️ only to find that I forgot to press record on one of the cameras 📷 ( I use wired remote controls) So I was not a happy camper at this moment 😡 and then had to go turn everything back on again and give it another shot. I had enough takes 🎬 were I could use one that was ok until that spot, and just fade out the song early, I’ve had to do this many times before. Fortunately I somehow got a good take with about 4 attempts and was relieved 👍 This is such a beautiful song 🎵 I really enjoyed playing it, it’s my best version I’ve done and for some miracle the sound balance is pretty darn good 😊 Fortunately I record with two cameras 📷 and camera two just sounded better in the end …. I picked this song yesterday because I just didn’t have my chops going on and figured I will just do an easier blues song 🎵 ha ha ha

@@PaulDes Thanks Paul 🙏 , I had a lot of practice, every time I would get to the last minute of the song there is a pause, then the drummmer comes back in with a couple of cymbal crashes. My seizure medicine, disrupts my brain 🧠 buy a fraction of a second and I can’t react to these pauses or breaks in the songs, because of this there are so many songs that I just can’t play. So I had to do this song countless times before getting that part right, to make things worse, after I finally hit that mark and got it completely right, I shut down all my lights and cameras 📷 and found after pulling out the memory card, that I forgot to press record on one of the cameras 😡😡😡 So I had to go turn everything back on and start over again, fortunately I got a good take within a few try’s. 🙏 Very frustrating 🤬 thankfully it turned out well in the end after so much work went into this one.

This song is The Mountain of Love, if you’re referring to The Blues don’t Lie It took me a zillion try’s , this is my biggest drumming obstacle. My brain 🧠 is delayed just a fraction of a second because of my seizure meds. So I’d have to play the full song 🎵 and every time I get to that moment, stop 🛑 and guess when to hit the cymbal. When I finally played it perfectly , I shut off my equipment and lights and plugged the memory card into the computer 🖥️, I was shocked to find that I only pushed the record button ⏺️ on one of the cameras 📷. So I had to redo it over again, fortunately I had played it so many times by now I perfected the rest of the drumming in the song, I think 🤔 I got it played right in just a few more try’s.

@@DRUMMER-MAN-59 Thanks 🙏 I’ve done this song before a couple times. I like this band and her voice, this song has so many dynamics in it. The funny thing is this wasn’t my best take, I did a couple more sound adjustments and started recording it again and I ran out of memory on my sd card in my camera 📷 then we had are old neighbors that recently moved pop in to pick up some deliveries she had sent here. So I never went back and recorded anything else.

@@dwstoeckel4740 , thanks just trying to be creative, I’ve pretty well run out of effects on that editing software. I’m also trying to tame it down a bit, this editing on this song took at least 3 or more hours. There is a lot more than you would expect. The sinking of the music track to the two cameras sometimes is maddening 😡 some times a few minutes and sometimes an hour just fo one camera 📷 Because of my brain 🧠 and brain tumor medication 💊 I can’t tell how to sync it up, my brain can’t connect. I have trouble even with simple everything things,like reading out a credit card number over the phone, or reading close captions on tv. I also have trouble getting my mind and hands 🙌 working when drumming 🥁. You just see the finished product after two hours of cursing 🤬 and temper tantrums. I’m not sure how much longer I will be able to play, I can’t remember what to play and it’s getting worse. I try to put out my videos to the best I can, and if anything isn’t right, I’ll just keep start over and over , sometimes It takes 40 try’s before I’m satisfied. Plus things go wrong, forgetting the drumming parts I planned out, forgetting changes, forgetting when to start or stop 🛑 Dropping drum sticks, hitting the microphones with a stick, missing a cymbal, or hitting it too loud … And another killer that drives me crazy, 🤪 is my Left hand just decides to forget to hit the bloody snare 🥁 I’m usually swearing when that happens 🤬🤬🤬 all this and sometimes 35 views. I’ve been getting some ok numbers lately, but I’m selling my sole playing music I don’t even like. But I’m addicted to making more videos everyday, eat sleep and drum … 🥁 no joke 👍

Kenny, please, please keep going. This drumming thing you are doing is probably helping you both mentally and physically more than you can imagine. You have friends out here that wake up each morning excited to see what you have for us. Keep fighting the good fight, my snoozy friend.❤❤❤

Thanks 🙏 I love this Version as well as the Van Morrison one. I’m a huge fan of Joanne Shaw Taylor, she’s been around for many years but blues artists don’t get any radio play, so many wonderful blues woman musicians that I’ve covered before and will certainly record more songs.

It’s better than usual and I’m happy with all, but my to small rack toms, just a touch too loud ☹️ It’s hard to be a one man show, everything sounded good until I came upstairs and loaded into the computer 🖥️. My biggest obstacle that I still can’t solve is the music to drum volume ratio. I always fight having the music a little too loud, because I need to hear it to play along. I can’t do anything about the situation because I am not investing anymore money into getting the proper equipment like a DAW … that way I could turn up or down any problems after recording. That would have let me pull down those two toms , I previously mentioned. So every song 🎵 it’s a battle between volume balancing, that’s the way it is. 🥁👍😀

@@gregwonhoff7161 , Good morning ☀️ as my day starts at 9:45 am, gee why did I get up so early 🤪 You wouldn’t know this version of this song because it’s a new release, but do you know the original song by Van Morrison ? I’ve done that one before. 🥁 I’ve also covered many songs from Joanne Shaw Taylor, she’s been around for a long time, but never really famous here in North America. She’s a blues musician guitarist/singer who I just discovered a couple of years ago. She had a resurgence in fame thanks 🙏 to Joe Bonamassa another fantastic musician in the blues scene. Unfortunately most blues artists aren’t well known, I think BB King was the only one to have a hit played on commercial radio. Joe Bonamassa is a favorite of me I stumbled into him around 10 years ago. He has around 21 albums and 10 DVD 📀 BLU RAY DVDS 📀 I have all of his dvd concerts, and so him live. One of his lines was “ I could go outside the venue that people paid $500 a ticket for, AND NOBODY WOULD RECOGNIZE ME “ well he’s actually quite famous now, but go up and ask someone if the have ever heard of Joe Bonamassa ? The answer would be no. I played around with all kinds of settings yesterday and this recording sounds very good 👍, perhaps one of my best, but the first two left toms are a tough too loud, I can never win 🏆

@@gregwonhoff7161 , it’s true I look tired 🥱 I’ve really gone down hill in the past year. I’m in bed now , it’s 2:08 pm just waking up after eating 🍽️ lunch. This easy song 🎵 that would take me a couple practice runs and a few takes took me two hours to finally get through the song we’re I was satisfied enough to be happy. This is happening more and more, it’s coming to a point where I won’t be able to make videos. They say oh it’s natural to forget stuff, My father had dementia, I don’t think I’m that far away myself. Well one day at a time, I’m still playing 🥁 This song took 5 hours from start to finish, I’m not happy with the way the toms sound again, I was just going to delete everything, but figured that I put too much time into it. I’m not even crazy about the song, but I figured that these types of songs get lots of views. Again so far it’s a bust, 98 views. That’s normal a great number for me, I just expected this pop song to be better 😊 ok 👍 back to the drawing board 😊

Awesome drum cover. Everything sounds very good to me. I really like the use of the Trash Crash Cymbal in this song. The more I see you use it the more I am tempted to buy one.

Yes Paul I definitely know this 🤗 , I’ve been trying to get away from the oldies because I’ve done them for so many years but, but they seem to attract more views on my channel., I guess I just have to mix them up. Sure now that I’ve expanded my kit, the oldies are easier on the 4 piece set up 🥁

Thanks 🙏 Dave , yes such an amazing song 🎵 and it stands up still so many years later. No I don’t recall seeing that with Eric Clapton. Funny enough I watched about two hours of my own songs last night including this one. I seem to have the best sound at this time, it’s been a progression, the better the sound quality it seems the better I play. 😊

Number two , before I upload the video I practice the song a few times and once I have it down , I then record it. I might take a few tries until I’m happy with my video.

@@_Reynolds_ Thank you 🙏 I am using two identical Fujifilm XT3 mirrorless cameras 📷 I Mike my drums through a 8 channel analog mixer, then the sound goes out into a headphone mixer , 1 channel into my ears 👂 in ear monitors, and the other two channels go to my cameras . It’s hit and miss, sometimes it’s a good mix and sometimes not so good. I don’t have the equipment of the tech savvy to do what most drummers 🥁 do by recording directly onto their computer 🖥️ That way you can make lots of changes of the drum sound and individually adjust each volume after the recording. Once it leaves my mixer and goes to the camera input I can’t change any thing at this point.

@@gregwonhoff7161 , that jungle thing is a tambourine, the one I’m using is made for drummers 🥁 it can be attached to a cymbal stand or a special mount. I will have to go back and look again at Kingy23 , I know since I’ve been using it on my last few songs, Rob (Drummer Man 59) has put one on his kit but it’s not visible. Thanks 🙏 it looks like I’m starting to play some oldies again, I was taking a break from them. I’ve played them so many years and they really aren’t that challenging for me anymore, playing music that I don’t know gets my brain 🧠 working more. I’ve also noticed that the oldies generate more views, it’s nice but I don’t get that many anyway and don’t care anymore. But it is a let down when I put four or more hours into a video and get 35 views it does bring me down. I’m happy to break 80 views and sometimes I can do very well. I have a feeling that this will be a successful song for me. The last few songs have come out well as far as my sound goes. 🙏🥁🎵👍😊🙈😱😎

@@The-Tired-Drummer I have one that a friend just gave to me. It fits on top of my hi-hat stand, but it isn’t made to be hit, as the jingle do-dads would get all bent up. I might put it back on since Kingy, Drummer Man, and you are all using some form of them now.🤩❤️🙏🤩

@@gregwonhoff7161 I have one of the thin ones that is made to be mounted on the hi hat stand, Its different than this type I’m using here, it’s basically a full size tambourine but sort of a half circle ⭕️ not a full round one that a singer uses .
