No, unfortunately its not the ballast that is the problem. The issue is internal to the light. See my other videos in the series for the in depth view. You have to replace the whole light at this time until myself (or someone else) comes up with a way to repair these in a cost effective manner. Thank you for your support!!

Yes, you are correct. However, I did a number on the housing trying to separate it. I want to get another donor and try a different process of removing the lens, so it can be reinstalled properly.

You needed to buy the light package for the warranty for another $70. It would cover internal and external lighting.

TheGitard is correct. Lighting package will cover it. I dont have that either.

I have not been able to source any wiring diagrams for the internal wire harness and all the colors are the same. I can determine which pins supply power to each of the LED boards but as to what the ballast does to control them, I am not sure as of this time. In my opinion, yes they are. They are generally more fuel efficient, reliable, and quieter than competition. That said, maintenance and upkeep will be the determining factor on all of them.

You have to get the extra lighting and key package to get the headlights covered under the warranty. Its a crock I know! Make sure you report it to the NHTSA website as a safety issue. Hopefully we can get a recall or class action!

There is always a chance that components will be installed incorrectly. That is just bad luck of the draw. Sorry you had to go through that. This engine actually does not require an oil seal on the exhaust valve. Now, why the valve spring broke, still baffles me.

Sucks that you have the issue as well! You may have made it longer (mileage wise) than most of the other people who have the issue. As far as I can deduce, the issue is a quality control problem. In the headlight I tore down, the LED board was not properly secured to the housing allowing the LEDs to make contact with the clear vertical tube, and burning it. This is the most common outage I have seen and they seem to be completely random when it occurs. Mine for instance, was working when I parked the truck at the movie theatre one night, came back out and remote started it, boom, gone. Other people have had their horizontals go out as well, but I am not sure if the same cause is at play. If you buy these lights from Ford, they are anywhere from $1100-$1800 each. Most people without a factory warranty are just going aftermarket now.

I have not replaced mine yet, no. I am contemplating aftermarket, but have not scrounged up the expendable cash to get them yet.

Water leaks are the worst. That is actually the first thing I had to fix for this customer when I got this RV. A water line under the sink ruptured and flooded the whole camper.

Wow, I thought the Platinum had the projector beam housings. This issue largely affects the quad LED lights, like what I have. I have not heard of many issues with the projector housing lamps.

No not yet. I need to get another donor and see I can separate the lens from the housing without destroying it, then see if internal parts are available. Currently people are going aftermarket. Report it to the NHTSA website as a safety issue.

I believe its more quality control issues. The LED board in my light that I tore down was actually a little loose. I could totally see it being loose enough to contact the array tube and melt it under the right circumstances.

I have no idea how many hours I have, but mine had a little over 36K or so when it went out.

I got 60k and my driver side just went out.

Perfect storm man. Same as it working just fine for 37K miles, through summers, winters, wet, dry... and then one night... boom! Its dead! Quality control is my thesis.

Yes, many of the ones I have bought also have fans. These are so small though, they shouldnt require them. Plus, that would be one more dash alert people would be bringing in their vehicles for, "LED Headlight Fan Issue, Please see dealer immediately! " HAHA.

That seems plausible. Whats weird is how long it takes to occur. You would think if hot LEDs were going to melt the plastic, it wouldnt take 3 years and 40K miles to do so.

I have not had an opportunity to open one up, but it would appear this affects the Quad LED housings more than any other. There are some random projector beam people who have had the issue, but mainly seems to be the Quads. I would love to be able to tear into a projector beam housing and see if they are the same.

Yep! Gotta figure out an easy way to get the lens off these things, and then see if there is an replacement LED board/array tube that can be bought. That will be the challenge.

Annoying isnt it? Its really ticking me off! I turned off the DRLs in the settings, but even that only works during the day. At night, they still on.

I have a spare now that I am going to use. As of right now I am not sure if the LED arrays are cross functional between the sides. Once I get it apart, I may take you up if your LED arrays work.

Mine was only a few thousand miles out of warranty too. I have heard of planned obsolescence, but they aren't even waiting and trying to hide it anymore!

It's covered if you opted for the light coverage option which added approximately $70.

@@slednut894 I have not purchased an extended warranty yet. I am looking at them, because of things like this, but also do not expect this kind of failure to be so common. LEDs are supposed to be long lasting lights! :)

Picture this if you will. LEDs created to replace energy intensive, short lived incandescent bulbs. Then, after we have all made the switch to these higher cost units (but longer lasting), manufacturers cheap out on the development, so now the LEDs fail prematurely, and we still have to pay to replace them! :(

Its an exercise in futility for sure. :)
