New Holland 1069 Bale Wagon First time out
After minimal repair - brakes are a thing, I guess - and some routine maintenance, it's time to get out and stack some bales.

New Holland 1069 self loading bale wagon - getting it home.

When your buddy buys a non-running old bale wagon and you're the mechanic.... well.. of course you help get it going and transported! Even though it was sketchy, it was a good time. Special thanks to Chon for buying the junk...err..great equipment haha! Also for putting up with our antics. More to come later as work pregresses. For all the safety nazis, yes we used chains and binders.
Imparium! First gig for the boys.

This is the boys' first time playing to an audience at the Paramount in Cheyenne. Not too shabby. My son on the drums and his friend Steven on vocals and guitar. Still looking for a bassist and slowly improving gear. They'll get there.

5 and 4 Twin Stick Shifting "Explained"
Any where we can find replacement rims we have f4 48 ford 20 in 5 lug
I ran one of these for a couple of summers back around ‘79 and ‘80. This was in CA in fields near Dixon and Davis. It was a lot of fun and a lot of work! The model I operated may have been a 1068 or 1069.
Those are exactly what I've got on my old Chevy. Have you had any trouble getting new tires on yours?
An air controlled clutch brake? What on earth were they thinking?
Works like a champ until the clutch is oiled down from a leaky rear main. Ask me how I know. It's an aluminum piston that rides the counter shaft. No worries about noobs pushing the pedal too far.
@@itsstillkickin4630 surprisingly, ive only seen that twice. Both from the same company too. Pushed the pedal so hard, they dished the throughout bearing.
Drove a C70 GMC log truck that used this same transmission behind a 427 gas engine.
The REALLY old 13's had that Shift Knob , BUT , the 7/12 & 8/13 slots were reversed .
How do you like the bale wagon?
do you still like it? and do you by chance know the dimension of how tall it is when its time to unload? is it 17 feet high? Thanks!
I'm not sure about the unloading height. Roading it's 14'2". Used it a lot for a year, but no ground to work the last two. One upgrade that was worth it's weight in gold was swapping the Holley carb for an Edelbrock
Rebuild it shouldn't take but about an hour. Its only a 2bbl Rochester
Did - about 5min later. Also fixed the valve cover leak and burnt brake line. Kind of what I do.
what...nowhere
Only negative is if a twister hits
How old is it? The manufacture date is stamped on it
Not sure. I'll look next time I'm up at that farm
Truck is a 72 with only 50k on it so probably original
@@itsstillkickin4630 Look for an oval shape about 1"x3/8" with a 4 digit number in it. The first 2 are the week it was made and the second 2 are the last 2 of the year of manufacture.
you are correct sir, always air it up in a metal cage. man I worked for bent over one one it carried him up too the rafters of the shop, his head swollen up to the size of a 5 gallon bucket but amazing he didn't die
Its been a long time since the 80's i don't recall seeing this driver using dir drive and over drive
I owned a 1978 Peterbuilt with 5x4 (Cummings 400 engine) I was able shift it one handed. RPM feel was everything. And a busy right arm…maybe even a little bump of the throttle too, when down shifting.
Liked your video. Recognized that town the second you showed it. Good ol Pine Bluffs. Trying to learn to drive my 71 Kenworth W925. I'm originally from Albin. Bob Rabou was my dad.
I'm in Albin quite a bit 👍🏻
What this trans is by it’s type number? Do it really have 20 speed?
Yes, and a 6x4 has 24 total speeds. That's how its was done before the big power motors came along.
@@thekodiak77 Usually there's not so many usable gears, because some are almost the same ration as some else gears are. But ofcourse you can use all , but no reason for doing so.
Hmm! Oh my it looks fun but I still prefer the what would be the modern transmissions ( 13,15 and 18 spd). It seems that one would need hearing protection for this ride. #keepontruckin 👍🏼
Drove one of these, when new ! Was a nice shift that I recall... Just sold a 1935 International, but it has been customized, 350 short block Auto, with B&M shift ! Nice video !
That one just ticked over 60,000 miles. Still shifts stiff like a new truck.
@@itsstillkickin4630 That is awesome! Happy Motoring !~ ( I'd love to find an old B Mack now, fix up for show...
Wow, looks a little complicated but also very fun. I always wondered if this kind of set Up may help to improve the way a truck runs, i mean, if you only had a 5 speed trasmision whit a 2 speed rear end how difierent the trucks performance could be? By the way, are you the guy who drives another international whit a gas engine whit a old 13 speed trasmision? If it is the case, wich of the two trucks pull better ?
The International but is Costa Rica's Blue Bird TC2000 sound.
Or El Salvador's Blue bird All American with Cummins 6CT engine

Didn’t Road Ranger make an old 7,8,9 speed transmissions?
They did
what confuses me is you have 2 sticks and yours is 5X4 and the gear pattern doesnt look like too many gears to play with, when theres the normal 1 stick that has the 9-10-13-15-& 18-speeds with a range change switch and splitter button,so are these simillar with the same amount of gears, just using 2 sticks to get all of them or are these way different where you dont even get a 9-speed or a 10-speed like the trucks that have 1 stick,& is it harder to shift these with or without the clutch and do these require double clutch or not
So from a complete stop, you start in 3-3?
No, but 2-2 is fine. First on the main box is left and down in that truck, so 2nd would be center and up. 2nd on the brownie is left and down.
l drove 1 of these a 1978 international same transmission only a 427 gas engine hauling logs every day . tandem axels and pulling a log pup trailer also.
Dina 531 has the gas engine in 1970.
Parabéns pelo vídeo! Sou fá dessa transmissão, pena que não tivemos ela aqui no Brasil. Congratulations on the video! I am a fan of this transmission, too bad that there is no one here in Brazil.
Wow, i've never seen a gas engine mated to a that kind of trasmision, only to a 4 o 5 speed whit 2 speed rear end, i didnt know that a gas engine has the power for moving big loads whit big trasmitions. How is the performance of the truck when loaded, how much wheight can it handle ????? Great video by the wey.
My first boss had a 12 yard tandem International with a 345 gas and the same RT-613 trans. This was 25 years ago. I never got to drive it but they said it would pull.
@@allenbowick4716 it has to be very funny driving these trucks, like taking your pick Up to the super market and throwing 8 o 9 gears every block and using the air brake pedal every time you see a friend instead of the horn. Still dont understant why you should get a gas engine truck whit big trasmition if you could get a diesel engine in it. Thanks!!
They were more common than diesel in their day in that size truck. It pulls 30,000 in the box (about 50 gross) regularly. That's our standard load of potatoes. Sometimes quite a bit more if needed. You don't get the hard pull on 10% or steeper grades unless you're down in the bottom of "int" range (4-7th gear). Without the gears, that engine wouldn't be enough, but with enough gears, any engine is enough. I've driven straight 6 gas twin sticks - they'll haul quite a bit as well.
@@itsstillkickin4630 wow, i didn't know gas eniges were capable of that. But as you said its a matter of tons of gears. I wonder why those trucks wasn't equiped whit 453's, 471's, 6v53's Detroits or v378, v555 or v903 engines; they were very common in that era and i tend to think that they should be more eficient than any gas engine in therms of hp, torque and fuel consumption. Any wey thanks por Sharing
@@santopiantado1161 The 2 stroke detroit was an option, and quite frankly, didn't make any more HP - it also got much worse milage.
Never drove the old pattern, but the layout always interested me. But I gotta ask if you have any info on that clutch brake? If the brake isn't on the clutch pedal, does the clutch itself engage towards the top still? And was this something common for the time period?. Very cool video, thank you.
It's not in the clutch housing at all. It's not really a "Clutch brake" per se, but a countershaft brake. Same end result. There's an aluminum air piston that pushes against the countershaft and stops it.
@@itsstillkickin4630 any detail on this as looking to do with my 613
@@Hitman-ds1ei Look for a cover on the left side of the trans, not very big, has 4 bolts. If you take it off and find a round bore for a piston, that's it. You just need to supply air through the cover (1/8 line?) from the valve you mount on the shifter. All the parts are still available new. I had to replace that piston and valve last year.
Diferencial number of relations
I think it's about a 5:13 differential ratio
@@itsstillkickin4630 whats the meaning of those numbers, could you explain to me a little please!!
How many times the driveshaft turns compared to the number of times the axle turns. It would be 5.13 turns of the driveshaft to one turn of the axle. Gives the engine and transmission a torque advantage. Street cars usually have a "taller" ratio of around 2.73 or so.
@@itsstillkickin4630 thanks a lot, now i know what you are talking about. Í thought that in order to know if your truck has a larger or shorter "legs" was about the number of tooths betwen the pinion and the crown. Lets say, 7:37 (seven tooths on the pinion - 37 in the crown) very shorts legs in the flats but very strogn in hilly roads.
@@itsstillkickin4630 what engine? Volvo TD123????
